If you tell Fenris not to kill his sister, Varric interjects and tells him he knows though doesn't feel it right then that killing her is the last thing he (Fenris) wants to do.  In my game, I had already talked Varric down from killing Bartrand.  I wondered if Varric kills him, if he still says that to Fenris.

I love how nervous Varric is around Fenris, BTW.  When my Hawke objected to Fenris going back on his word to Hadriana, Varric leans in and whispers "now might not be the best time to offer the elf constructive criticism."  lol

Interesting.

Let me add the dialogue I get from Varric after we finish off his brother. (The reason why I didn't even consider sparing Bartrand was because Carver died as a result and I knew Varric was going to be OK with killing his brother because he had several occasions of expressing how horrible he felt that Carver was dead because of Bartrand. Both in ambient dialogue and in one on one conversation. He swore revenge on Bartrand for this. All companions will say something in ambient dialogue if you lose a sibling, but I had appreciated Varric's sorrow.)

Hawke: Something on your mind, Varric?
Varric:  I should thank you for your help with my brother.
Varric: He deserved to die after what happened to Carver, but ... I couldn't have gone through with that on my own.
Varric: He was never what you'd call nice. Or pleasant. Or hygienic. But he was my only brother.
Hawke: He was obviously suffering. You spared him a lot of misery.
Varric: I hope you're right.
Varric: I don't know if surface dwarves go back to the Stone or hang around singing hymns with Andraste, or what.
Varric: I just hope wherever he is now, Bartrand stays out of trouble.

I doubt his response to Fenris would change based on the outcome of his personal quest. He's not happy about it either way.

Edit: I didn't know that Anders could take control of Bartrand and unlock more dialogue so Anders is definitely coming next so I can gather more information about Bartrand's state of mind and how Varric feels about the whole thing.

They didn't say who they kidnapped but Hawke seems intent on saving them... maybe it's something Fenris says during that? Not sure if anyone has done it with all their siblings dead. Still going through the quest myself.

It would've been interesting if they had kidnapped Gamlen. I can imagine plenty of people who would've just let the blood mage kill him. Image IPB
On my first playthrough, I had no family alive(and thought that they were all MEANT to die, until I crept onto here and found otherwise), but I had Fenris in my group, so they just kidnapped Varric. Apparently, so long as they are not in your group, it's meant to be your love interest who is kidnapped. Image IPB

I didn't learn about this until well into act 3 with my Fenris romance, so I ended up saving Bethany *sigh* doing an Anders run right now and I'm totally getting Carver killed, just because the irony of ANDERS getting kidnapped by blood mages will keep me amused for ages. Though not romancing Fenris is even harder than I thought it would be.

As for the sister discussion, I always talk him down, killing her accoplishes nothing. Besides, I like to pretend my rogue Hawke secretly went and shanked her in the back before going to his mansion, you know, give him some time to chill out.

Fenris never needs to know. :bandit:

Sorry Fenris. I love you, but I also want to be able to rescue you. Maybe its a fetish.

I've been waiting and waiting for the quest to pop up so that I can ditch Fenris... so that I can rescue him. Especially since I'm playing a female Hawke, I'll take just about any opportunity to rescue a... "stud in distress"? What's the male equivalent of a "damsel"? Image IPB

I was a little confused when I was told that a loved one (close person?) of mine got kidnapped and it ended up being Merrill, who I had a rival relationship with. She probably wasn't 50% rival yet, but I had figured that it was due to her naivete or something.

So... when does Zevran show up so I can see jealous/possessive Fenris? I ...seem to have missed Zevran. Unless he doesn't show until act 3. ._. I really don't want to have to go that far back.

He's in act 3. A bunch of Antivans are outside the Blooming Rose, and ask you to go after him.

Edit: Just a suggestion, take the flirt option when you first see Zev. I didn't this time around, thinking the dialogue that results in snappy Fen might still occur, but it didn't. Pretty sure you have to flirt first, to triger it.

Aww, the game treats saving Fenris like saving basically any other companion. Though it was fun to have hawke be all angry and threatning everyone! 8D

Poor guy assumed he had let Hawke down by being captured. D:

He's in Act 3, I think the Quest is A Murder of Crows, or something like that.

And I'm always late for the good convos. Image IPB  I didn't let Fenris kill his sister.  I too, think that it is something that he'll regret later.  And talking him down and telling him not to kill her isn't done in an "order" kind of way.  I saw it as a friend trying to show him what was the right thing to do.  If he kills her, I can't believe that's something he'd be happy about 5 years down the road.

You have to defeat a boss before you get to talk to Zevran. I suggest hitting ESC as quickly as you can so you can get in a save before his dialogue triggers automatically. That way you can explore everything he has to say without repeating the boss fight. =p (Hey, it sucked on my first playthough when I had no clue what to expect and was low on potions.)

Anyone have a video of that? I'd love to see it since I have to wait to finish this play through and there are three gamers and one DA2 copy in my house it may take a while. :(

Just made a new banner for my signature. I DO IT OUT OF LOVE. Couldn't think of what I wanted to say about him, because I knew that I enjoyed his path, but not as much as I enjoyed his response to "you're whining."

Are there any flirt/"omfg i gonna kill all the ****es" option at all? I hate to put Fenris into a situation, but I wanna rescue someone for once. Not ride into battle to find them already dead.

I finally found a save where I could do that last night and I loved every minute of that.  Oh Maker, two sexy elves getting shirty over Hawke, she is a lucky lucky woman.

That was my guess.  Varric just seems like that kind of guy.  I left Carver at home so didn't have that added oomph, and I did have Anders along so we got to talk to the "real" Bartrand.  It made a difference for me.  Very interesting, too!

Yeah but you're not ordering him not to kill her, you're imploring him as a friend.  I see it as one of those times when you know a friend is not thinking clearly and acting out of rage, a rage he says he hates because they planted it in him.  There's no way to talk him down from killing Danarius (as if I would!) but the fact that he actually lets himself be talked down makes me think he sort of wants to be.  She's dead to him anyway, but I dunno, killing your own blood, I'm superstitious about stuff like that.

Plus Varric, that burly fount of wisdom, added 2c from his own experience in my game.  I wonder if he still does that if you let him kill Bartrand?

Those were my thoughts at the time and why I didn't let him make his own decision.  That's the sort of thing that you would regret later.

Is there anyone who would actually ask him to spare Danarius(if the option were available)?
Hawke, Fenris, and Danarius could all sit down afterwards at the Hanged Man/Hawke estate/Fenris' mansion and have tea while discussing what a bastard he is and how much Fenris hates him.
And Fenris' tea would be positively boiling from the rage!Hate!Loathing! emanating from himself.
And Sandal could come and offer them all little cakes.
...k, I'm done now. >_>

He does. I've never not let Varric kill Bartrand and he still piped and told Fenris not to do it. i mean that's why Varric lies to Cassandra to begin with about what happened in the estate is because it was painful to talk about killing his own brother or seeing his own brother turned into a total nutjob, etc.

And both times I've played that scene I never let him kill her, even after what she did. For pretty much the same reason put forth before.

The Mage!Hawke rivalmance with Fenris was awesome. Especially after the whole sister thing and his whole incredibly enraged rant about how magic ruins everything - then a quick cut to a very taken aback Hawke.

The Tevinter "you will be the death of me" was awesome, too.

I can see why Fenris is friends with Isabela. Lately, Anders has been pestering my Isabela that she doesn't take sides. At every banter, she says some either profound or down right awesome.

Me Isabela and Fenris. That is my only threesome choice.

Probably because your best friends are all in your party with you at the time. And yeah, I think Merrill would be pretty easy to fool.
