I know it's not true, I never thought it was. I was trying to be funny, the internet is really bad for that kind of thing though. Ah well.

Gah, sorry, my snark detectors misfire before my third cup of coffee apparently!  It's also just...  I've been reading too many posts lately that are trying to pidgeon hole the romances into twilight-esque cliches because of that!  I just want to enjoy the romance for what it is!

Okay, I'm yet another person having trouble romancing Fenris. I'm playing a male mage Hawke in Act 2. I was slightly friendly and had flirted with him in A Bitter Pill. I let him kill Hadriana (no hardship there, since she killed me) and gave the girl a job (she was so not going to make it on her own)...and then he got mad when I asked him if he wanted to talk about it--kind of don't blame him; it wasn't the time for sharing our feelings--started ranting about how all mages are evil, and Hawke had a sad face.

So I went back to the estate; Fenris apologized...and left.

Am I completely SOL now, or will I have another opportunity to get in his spiky metal pants?

He left for me too, so I ran over to his mansion (Quest: Questioning beliefs), then he went to Hawke's estate and spent the night with her. :)

*relieved sigh* Thank you!

Sadly, the wall-push didn't go in the direction I wanted--my Hawke is such a bottom; he'd much rather be the one being shoved--but that's okay.

Think I'll replay that one more time before going to bed. I'm going to regret this when I have to get up five hours from now...but it's worth it.

I think there are steps he is making. From the banters it is clear that he is searching his way and place in life. He even attempted to pray at some time, though he vehemently denies that. There are some options where he accepts that circle is just a sort of slavery. He does like the keeper and respect her, even though she was a mage. He was the only one I saw development in. It is funny how perception woks, isn't it? :)

I took Anders and fenris to Merril's quest, I was kinda aggressive to Merrill and said the Kepper loved and protected her, and their reaction was:

Anders: That was the noblest thing I've ever seen anyone do. The world is poorer for having you instead of her.
Fenris: For once, we agree oin something.

But a banter with Merrill followed, he said he was sorry she died because everyone in the clan considered her like a mother, Merrill answered something like "why would you care, isn't she just another mage for you"
Fenris: I'm not sorry she's dead, I'm sorry she died for you.
Merrill: What?
Fenris: Let's hope her sacrifice have some who cared for you that much isn't wasted.

I still kinda think though he tries hard to keep a sort of protective facade up. Of course he hates mages, but I'm sure he is really sorry the keeper died, even if he doesnt want to say it to Merrill (which he hates more than the Keeper for sure...and I was with him on this really -.-)
He will forever be biased on mages, but that's just normal...but in the end he doesn't just hate them all or kill them on sight, like Anders would with every templar around if he could >.>

Yeah, he said they were successful in what they sought out to do or something to that extent.  He kind of explains it here:

http://social.biowar...ex/6603345&lf=8

But IDK what that has to do with Fenris considering Fenris is like the shining beacon of freaking video game love interests.  I choose to ignore all things Twilight and after this will continue to do so.

:D

I understand completely what he said. I read Twilight with the same attitude. It took a lot of patience and guts, that was really so NOT my genre (I like gothic stuff and vampires, but that is NOT Twilight :°D). I read it to understand what so many people found in it, and to fuel my spite with cold hard facts xD. And yeah, he is right. Considered the readers she wanted to please, the romance was well done. The story and characters are so cliche and bland, really, but that was what her readers wanted, and she obliged exagerating even in some points.

Still, I do not see what romances in Dragon Age have to do with Twilight, I don't even understand who could have brought the comparison up. There is a first big difference. Hawke, who is a complete different protagonist. And the LI have so much more personality, even the ones I don't like. And they are not just there to "please", especially in this case I think everyone now and then got angry or worse with a companion.
And really, it is sad that now we have as term of comparison Twilight...there is so much more real literature before it.

*grin* You're welcome.  I thought it was cool when that message popped up -- HEY, sexytime got him an upgrade!  Hawke is THAT good!

Which brings me to another point I was wondering...many of you keep writing about how you chose to side with the mages.

I'm puzzled, I've always been pro mage(playing one 90% of the time as well) but the mages in DA2 kind of...made me rethink my opinions of mages in the world of Dragon Age. I did both of the endings and much prefer the templar one, despite Meredith going crazy because of the idol. At least that can be blamed on the idol and not her being an idiot and turning to blood magic.

So why are basically all of you siding with the mages? I'm curious, especially if you've been agreeing with Fenris' ideas.

I planned all along in my first runthrough to have a friendship romance with Fenris and side with the templars.  I was playing a rogue who loved her sister (and lost her in the Deep Roads) but was somewhat wary of the dangers, a fact that was only underlined by each quest where someone would turn into an abomination.  She also got on Anders's bad side extremely quickly.

In spite of all that she sided with the mages, and it was something quite reactive.  My Hawke was completely pissed off about the way Meredith had been trying to discredit Aveline to gain more power.  Meredith seemed power-crazed and the whisperings of abuses among the templars were hard for her to ignore.  Orsino seemed more reasonable on the surface.  So my Hawke had a last-minute change of mind and although she came to regret that, what was left of her party stood by her.  (Isabela was long gone and she couldn't forgive Anders for making matters even worse).

Trouble is, I'm playing a mage this time and I can't see how she'd ever side with the templars.  So the alternative ending may have to wait for my warrior playthrough.

I was catching up on past pages and noticed someone (sorry, lost the page where the post was) bemoaned the fact of weapons blocking their view.  This mod, 'Hide Weapons', fixes that.  All weapons, except for Varric's, are gone except in combat.  It works wonderfully  :)

Here's the alternate first romance scene when Hawke is in friendship with Fenris. Apparently Fenris can glow and push Hawke against the wall like the rivalry version. In this one it shows Fenris' face as he looks at Hawke after he shoves him against the wall and Fenris does not look to the side when he's slammed against the wall either.

Alternate Friendmance: www.youtube.com/watch
Rivalmance: www.youtube.com/watch

H-How do you get an alternate friendmance? I friendmanced him and Hawke pushed him against the wall :(

The video isn't of my Hawke, but the uploader said it MIGHT be because they were not at 100% friendship.I've seen lots of videos of this scene and this version is pretty rare. I want to know if there is an alternate rivalry version.

Err... no. I've easily gotten that 100% Friendship. I believe you need to do "Questioning Beliefs" first (or whatever one it is where he tells you about how he escaped-- make sure you flirt!), then "A Bitter Pill" (flirt here too, to be safe). When you go to the Hawke Estate at the end of "A Bitter Pill" and have the discussion to wrap it up, the very last time you can choose an option to respond, there should be a option in the lower left part of the wheel that is something along the lines of (or is) "Don't go".  :)

Can you keep a secret?

After the first time I finished DA2, I now side with the Templars. (It's been a little hard playing a character Rivaling Fenris-- lucky me, he rivals extremely easy. Basic support of mage liberation gets +15 and +20 rival points so quickly that it's amazing that Fenris simply doesn't hate my rogue.)

My first character, who was a mage, originally sided with the mages because of the fact she didn't believe the Circle should've gotten blamed and completely wiped out for something Anders, who ISN'T part of the Circle, did. However, I came to realize farther in that the Circle had turned to Blood Magic anyway, which now contradicted my character (apostate mage or not, she believed Bethany and herself would've been better off in the Circle, and sent as many mages as she could to the Circle, and absolutely would not tolerate Blood Magic or deal with demons). After I wrapped up that playthrough, I quickly reloaded from a save before the big decision and sided with the Templars.

I'll have to try that!  If I have a favorite character, I'm also interested in how they play as friends.  I think I love Zevran's friendship story line more than the romance, for instance.  Alistair was a little disappointing as friend to a female- for one thing, it was so hard to avoid his romance lines!- though that is true to his character and he makes a good bromance.  Haven't seen enough of Fenris to tell how it plays out but I found his smile and drunken toast here very sweet.

Oh my god, thank you so much for linking this. I'm going to have to install it later if only for cutscene rewatch -- I remember just before the end of the fight in Fenris' act 3 quest I had to remove my Hawke's weapons so I could get his intense look when I told him I was there for him. And even then, the "default" daggers that appear in the slots when nothing's equipped decided to show up and block his face! And my bow still gets in the way every time I try to watch the last scene with him in the Gallows courtyard. <_<

The fact that even if you sided with the mages, Fenris would still be at your side if you maxed Friendship. Whereas Anders will never help you attack the mages, Fenris is willing to attack the templars. It shows that he can put down his hatred for magic to do what is at hand. He doesn't think siding with the mages is right but he cares more about Hawke than old hatreds.

Exactly.

I chose to side with the mages because it's obvious that Meredith is crazy and on a power trip, and Orsino makes an excellent point that it was not a Circle mage that blew up the Chantry.  Even if it had been, that person is the only one responsible.  I don't see blood magic as inherently evil, so even though Orsino turns, that to me is not indictment.  His back was against the wall.  I'll probably side with the templars on one or the other pt, but the rationale that the public will be bloodthirsty so you have to make a blood sacrifice to appease them is not only very weak, it's ironic.  The templars don't mind using blood magic for their own purposes (like phylacteries) and they're not only charged with protecting the public, but also protecting mages.

Thank you! OMG, the scenes I had to replay with daggers on to avoid the freaking huge quiver and arrows! I'll never ever roll an archer on xbox, that's for sure...
It was satisfying killing Denarius two times, but really, when I saw my arrows instead of Fenris's expression I kinda wanted to /headesk (when a /facepalm is just not enough)!

Yes, I mean "move in" but he also never comes to visit Dog. (in my playthrough Varric and Aveline did twice and Isabela and Sebastian once).

I was sad about this too :crying:Among other things like not seeing his body lyrium brands...But poor guy ran away after you had something intimate with him, i think he was afraid to move in with you too, even after you sorted things out. I imagine Hawke would kiss him and stay "dangerously" close to him, and as he said she is the first and only one to get that close. I still wonder what he did alone in that big mansion so many years...besides dancing of course

As for Anders. I would have loved THE Anders. This is totally not Anders...He is not matured he is a totally different person! In Awakening i cringed at the thought of him not being a romance option and i even flirted with him even tho my Warden was queen (and i was a bit of a Alistair fangirl). Now when i tried to go thru a different romance, Anders made me throw up with those sugary lines. Maybe i like my man to be darker, i dunno xD But after a while in his romance i heard him talk to Fenris (i romanced Fenris too but after he left i went with Anders) and i had to reload and wait for Fenris.

Fenris is clearly really good written and fangirl material :devil:Ser Gaider ya did it again to us!

It doesn't really matter if your LI moves in with you or not as you pretty much leave the city in the epilogue anyway...

Hope this works, I have never posted a picture before Image IPB Ooo it worked!

If you ever noticed right after the night with Fenris, you get this little pop up "Item received Grafted Spirit Hide".  I think that's what is tucked in the red thing.  It ticked me off cause I spent 30 mins going back and forth and trying to find that thing and never did so I am guessing it's that, or I just went blind from the pain of Fenris leaving my Hawke.  What it is and why... Yeah no idea.  I did hope it would be revealed, but no such luck.  Image IPB

It's not under the red thing.

When you go the the armor enchantments page, you can see that it is a piece of head armor and you can enchant it. I'm playing with the helmet toggle on (or off depends on perspective :P), so no idea how it looks like. xD

I feel the same and am a bit disappointed.  I was never an Anders fangirl, but wanted to be won over.  If there were more of the old Anders there, I think the transformation when Justice takes over would be even more compelling.  What is really offputting about his romance lines is how creepy he is from moment one.  But also, Anders 2.0 is judgmental and a bit of a dick.  Fenris is judgmental, too, but even just for contrast it makes me want the old Anders back, if only as my pal, as he was in Awakening.

Fenris is not a disappointment at all and that's a relief.  Image IPB  But I always seem to relate to Gaider characters well.  It's a bit harder work with the others.  Eventually I'll make a male character, not sure if I'll go with Isabela or Merrill there.  I'm also feeling the lack of a gal pal in this game, missing Morrigan.

i feel the same about anders, he needs to be a bit tougher. As I've said previously he reminds me of a hippy esque peron (nothing wrong with that) but thats not the sort of person I go for.

Not saying Fenris is a bad guy, but I always tend to go for evil or anti-hero characters. Need a bit of darkness, Anders just goes on too much about hurting Hawke.
