I got Merrill's banter when my Hawke moved on to Anders.  I felt like crap when I heard that.  Then Fenris threatned Anders, telling him he better treat Hawke right, so I started to get helpful.  Then Isbela and him talked about hooking up and my hopes were crushed!

Sad days, that one

Edit: Truthfully, after hearing Fenris tell Anders he better treat Hawke right, I am not sure I could romance anyone else.  It's just such an amazing banter. 

you should feel like crap. you were the first one to ever get down to his vulnerable side, and even if it WAS his own foolishness that pushed you away, he feels betrayed.  he'll probably never let anyone close again.  isabela doesnt count cuz the betrayal aspect probably sucked out any emotional side to the act. so it was no longer intimacy, it was "just rutting"

Save Zev. Go back to the camp with Isabela. Isabela will shag him before he leaves. I got a little jealous. Isabela gets all the shags...

@Batorific, everyone noticed that somehow. Merrill and Varric just teased Fenris non-stop. Not sure about Issie as she left in Act II in my playthrough. Even Aveline mentioned that to Hawk during the relationship chat (when she was courting Donic). Anders? He had a unique cutscene questioning what did Hawk see in Fenris XD.

Hmm, I've never gotten Varric to tease Fenris about Hawke. Merrill's is cute though, puppy eyes! Hehehe.

Another thing, Fenris will step in and threaten Zevran if he propositions Hawke. So either it's super creepy, or they're together, but yes, not intimate (that makes a lot of sense, actually).

*eee's at having come up with a theory that makes actual sense* Cause you could tell how much it hurt him to walk away after that night, knowing he might never be intimate with Hawke again. I'm sure in the ensuing 3 years, they spent plenty of time with each other, while Hawke taught him to read, and he taught Hawke Tevinter.

My head canon says Fenris closed off. There were probably small moments, but, as we seemed to say earlier, the emotions involving Hawke were serious triggers, so he was busy dealing with that. But the red scarf had to happen at some point, so there must have been something.

The scarf appeared immediately after you guys had the one night together. I loved that he was still THERE when she woke up by the way.  Like he couldn't just leave without saying SOMETHING to her.

just to add to this bit, you also keep in mind that even in Act 3, the characters THINK you are involved with Fenris still.  remember what Anders says to you when you start his personal quest.

so i imagine that Hawke and Fenris must have stayed pretty damn close.  Just in the awkward sort of shameful way. 

Anders didn't say crap to me on his personal quest, it just started with go find me these three stupid things for my "potion":mellow:

Awww, it was my second playthrough, and I wanted to see what Anders' romance was like.  And since I already knew the friendship romance with Fenris, it made it that much worse.

Funny how different the rivalmance seemed to me.  The friendmance was so so sweet, and the rivalmance was just so tense.  I loved them both.  I'm doing a friendmance again with him, but you know, I kind of miss the fighting!

Didn't he confront you in the sewers about it? Asking you what you saw in him and saying he was more like a dog than a man?

If you take Anders with you when you go hunting for ... uhh... human crap in darktown then he'll ask you about Fenris. I had to take Anders for that quest cuz I wasn't touching the stuff. If he wants it, he can collect it his damn self. I'll just kill the bad guys for xp's and loot, lol.

No one bought strategy guides? My EB had them at the most obvious spot in the store. I saw it the minute I walked in. Collector's edition. Lovely illustrations! They offered tips without giving too much away!

Damn useful when it comes to the Fade quest.

lol. I'm assuming that during the three years between Act 2 and 3, that instead of ending up in bed together, Hawke and Fen would stay up at night, and teach each other things. If you give Fen the Book of Shartan, he mentions he can't read and Hawke can offer to teach him to read. So, I assume that while Hawke does that, Fen teaches him/her Tevinter.

i prefer friendmance simply because you already see his combative side so much. its refreshing to see his super sweet side.

my only gripe with the entire romance was a lack of recognition that Fenris and Hawke get back together. no additional banters, no altered situations. it wouldn't be so bad if the final personal quest couldn't be done soon as you start the act, and thus, rekindle the romance immediately.

i have trouble switching to anders.  the way he goes after hawke just creeps me out.  o.o  like he only does it out of jealousy. or when i play mages he gives off the huge "omg youre a mage too? were soulmates!" even when i treat him as terrible as i can.

And see I guess I never saw the Alistair romance as tragic because I was HNF....from my view it's actually quite brilliant. Not so good if you don't meet those requirements though~

oh im not saying there wasnt confirmation between them. i'm just saying there's certain dialogues (banters and the anders confrontation) MEANT for when theyre "broken up" that still happen after getting back together. its only a very tiny gripe. still easily the best romance i've seen in a game. if only because of how expressive his character can be.

also he DOES say to anders that "it is done". that means they broke up. regardless of the fact they still were more or less a non-physical couple.
