Yeah, that would be like a character who was a Tevinter slave and horribly experimented on and tortured. Certainly not something we'd see in a companion. 
Actually no, it wouldn't be very similar at all. Tevinter slaves and Qunari mages probably grow up in completely different environments.
I wouldn't be surprised if Teviniter slaves were treated as animals from a very young age. This is the same Tevinter empire that thought it was fine to kill hundreds of slaves to power up their magic. And I can also imagine there are Tevinter slaves who are mentally unstable because of abuse and don't think they desire freedom.
Everything you gave as being likely for a qunari mage is just as likely for a tevinter slave.
And even if they were similar, that'd be all the more reason for us not to see two of the same kind of companion in one game.
I could also pick out a few elements of Zeveran and Leliana's background and say they're similar. Both of them are bisexual rogues who were taught erotic arts to get close to their marks and kill them.
Companions can be similar when it comes to a few elements and still be completely different characters.
