I don't think I can show Fenris the goods of magic if I lost respect for mages after what happened to Mother. Any time I show Fenris something good, a crazy mage has to come and try to murder me. I agree with Hawke. Can't we go one week without a crazy mage trying to kill us?
Does Hawke go one week with a crazy *anything* not trying to kill him? I mean...really it's either darkspawn, bandits, random giant spiders, dragons, High dragons, Qunari, elves that wanna be Qunari, mages or templars. Hawke can't catch a break.

Yes Fenris can be an ass too, but that stems from true horrible experiences. I think Anders can be more of an ass because he calls Fenris a dog even though you are with him, disgustingly shows approval if Hawke betrays Fenris to his master, and says something about how Fenris should committ suicide. And let's not forgot his special "potion".Addai67 wrote...

LOL, I clicked on Leandra after I got that comment from Gamlen and she said, "An elven slave? Maker, I hope you know what you're doing." Something like that. I thought that was such an odd comment she made. It wasn't until my second game when I romanced Isabela and Leandra STILL said the same thing that I finally realized she's actually talking about the elf that I hired into my household. LOL. *facepalm* Maa-aaa-aan. =pLady Jess wrote...

Yeah, I don't hate the bastard any less. <_<
So, we were giving Anders a hard time earlier, but I noticed Fenris saying a couple of pretty dickish things. When you're recruiting Merrill and you encounter the elf who tells her to GTFO, he says "you can't give away what no one wants." I'm not sure exactly what he means except I guess it's that the clan can't be rid of a blood mage soon enough. Also, when you talk to Ser Thrask and he says he's always surprised to find that people are more interested in mage's struggles than their dangers, Fenris says "some people aren't."

Seriously?
They both have had rough and horrible lives and are both ****s at times. Can we not play the X has had a worst life than Y and can act more jerkish and be excused thing? I like both characters.
And I was happy to learn that he volunteered for the tattoos especially to free his family from slavery. It ended up being more of a hardship for his family than him despite him probably seeing it the other way around.

Giant spiders? Fine. I am invading their home. Qunari? Fine. They've been pursecuted by a demented priestess. Bandits? Fine. I was a smuggler for a year. But, damn it, I was siding with mages until the end. Why do the mages have to hate me? D:

Being ripped from your parents and locked away, sometimes for long periods of solitary confinement, is no picnic either, especially for a free spirit. His extremism is also Justice-fueled. I'm not defending him, just saying Fenris has his moments too.dandybananas wrote...

Qunari? Yes being persecuted by one person means it's okay to slaughter a whole city filled with people who had jack squat to do with it, Tal-Vashoth? Have no reason to bother Hawke at all.
Mages? They don't attack you unless their either apostates who don't know your on their side, or bloodmages possessed by demons.
That said its irritating but the Circle mages that *don't* turn into demons do help Hawke out. Those that do attack everything around them. Unless you mean before the final battle where theyh don't know you from adam. And a couple of Templars attack you for daring to try to escort them to the Tower safely. Ra forbid.
And most of them turn into abominations out of fear and desperation. Stupid yes but I can't really say they hate Hawke.

Fenris isn't all that nice with Merrill...since i went with them everywhere during my first playthru, i know most of their convos. If i weren't romancing Fenris i would have said he is a dick. One example:
"They looked at me like i was a monster" *sob*
"You are a monster."
My reaction was "Awww Fen don't say that to the poor girl!".

Did you listen to what his sister said? They were poor and her mother ended up dead (the poorness is a guess based on how she was just a tailor and seemed to need Fenris' aid to get a boat and such). She even says something like: I look at you and Freedom was no boon. You got the better half of the deal.
not those words precisely but that's the general idea.
Tevinter seems to be a rough place. A young girl and her mother, with no title to hide behind would probably be used and exploited. She was a mage sure but she didn't seem to have any powerful ability and was depending on Danarius to apprentice her and let her become a Magister. Most likely so she would have some power and a means of making a decent living.

Never said Anders doesn't have bad experiences and I don't excuse Fenris for being a jerk either. I understand why they dislike what they do. I like Anders. It's specifically all the stuff I mentioned that crosses the line of inappropriate that makes me mad at him. Being smug when betraying a comrade is wrong.Ryzaki wrote...

Qunari. They are a very tough people. Different beliefs, customs, and a lot of people walked all over that for no reason. So some people decided the Qun was awesome. That doesn't mean we have to start killing Qunari. I am amazed they didn't rampage as soon as possible. They held for multiple years before deciding they couldn't take the insults anymore. I don't blame them for attacking. Kirkwall kinda had it coming.
Grace. Say it with me? **** Grace. Help her, give her up, nothing satisfies her. No **** kidnaps my Aveline.
One thing I don't get is when you side with Mages and you are fighting with Orsino, why the hell does he turn while you are still in the damn room? Does he not even care about Hawke? That he used her like Meredith uses you in the Templar choice? Both of them suck ass really.

Being smug when betraying a comrade? when is Anders smug about betrayal?
And Anders was never smug about suicide. He was asking Fenris a serious question. I saw no smugness or suggestion there.
And if you think Fenris wouldn't have approved of handing Anders over to the templars...well I don't know what to say.

Well, imagine that your whole life you've been told what to do and as long as you do what you're told you can get by alright and then all of a sudden you have to start taking care of yourself.
You have to find a job, a place to live, since slaves don't get paid you wouldn't have expirience dealing with money...
Freedom could seem pretty terrifying! Like the slave girl you meet in his Act 2 quest, she was compleately baffled and had no clue what to do. She just asks, "Are you my master now?"

I think being poor is better than being a slave (pretty sure they were poor as a slave as well), did they elaborate on how the mother died? I chose to kill the sister in the game, so I didn't see that scene. Honestly, I think Fenris had a much harder life. Beaten, tortured, memories wiped, food/sleep deprived, treated like a lesser being (possibly raped?). The only reason Fenris ended up in a better scenario is because he ended up meeting Hawke when he escaped. So while he was a slave, no, I think he endured a greater hardship.
I think it was a bit whiny on the sister's part to complain about being poor (didn't realize money equaled happiness). Anyone has the power to overcome their circumstances. Fenris did it, albeit with the help of Hawke. (He was on the run for like three years before he met Hawke though, if I remember correctly)
Sides, I think the sister lost any respect my Hawke might have had for her when she betrayed Fenris to become a Magister.

Bleh. I hate the Qun. They irritate the heck out of me and I do blame them for attacking.
Grace to me is the mage version of Alrik. A complete and utter douche who should've been killed as soon as possible. Alas unlike Alrik you can't kill her when you first meet her. BS that was.
That to me made sense. He had lost his mind at that pint and was no longer in control of himself. The fact that he does it with hawke in the room is what makes it wallbangery to me. But then again he and Meredith balance each other out on the scales of facepalm worthy douchebaggery.

I can see how something like that might be scary at first, but eventually one would overcome that and move on. And realize... hey, I'm free. And not a slave. I would appreciate the sacrifice my brother had for me, rather than **** at him about it years later because I didn't want to put in the effort of taking care of myself.

Anders and Fenris do not like each other. There is no comradie between them.
Them following Hawke doesn't make them friends.
And he says "I thought I was the only one thinking that" not glad that I wasn't.
There was no "betrayal" the two of them despised each other from day one. They made now vows implied or otherwise to work together.
Not to mention the only one doing any betrayal in that scene would be Hawke.
