Bah. I need to now recruit her again.

They flirt quite a bit.

Isabela catches her prey and then some  I love her, but walking into Anders' clinic while he cures Isabela of her diseases was a bit

So for those of you who played as a mage - and I am getting the impression there are a lot of you - is it difficult to find armor upgrades and stuff, or do you pick a lot of it up? I don't know if your loot depends on your class or not. I played as a rogue - and loved it - but it seemed like there was almost no mage stuff anywhere! I am thinking of stating a new game as a mage, but I want to make sure I will be able to keep my weapons and armor up...

you can't rely on drops like rogues and warriors. if you really want good stuff, you have to buy them, money is not an issue in this game so I didn't hesitate with buying anything if I find them useful

in BE, there's a staff there called The Final Thought, best staff I've come across. Cost me 159 soverigns and some change though I believe,

I want that staff hard for my mage, but I have a hard time making money on the game.  I guess I'm just bad at it!  (There's nowhere to gamble and there's no auction house=I have no idea how to make sovereigns).  There's a decent two-hander in there for Fenris but I always give him Bloom.  Do you ever buy BE stuff for your companions?

Well, we first have to remember Fenris isn't exactly normal in the emotion department. He has been a slave for nearly all his life. With sides of torment and life endangerment, he cannot cope with the unfamiliar well. So, all this memory flooding freaks him out and partially puts the blame on the relationship. He honestly is afraid. He wants Hawke and yet he is skittish of their first real encounter. Feelings confusing the **** out of him. I cannot find blame in him. He hardly understands how to interact with people let alone with a lover.

3 years seems like a long time. But, plot before minor character development. I am sure Hawke tried to bring it up times before, with Fenris not wanting to discuss it further. If Hawke truly loved Fenris, he/she would have dropped it. Would you nag your dear one to death?

I actually can buy that since Varric is telling the story, he may not have it completely right. 3 years is just too long for what is going on. Especially since Hawke can then throw herself at Fenris again, and he responds immediately.  So I suddenly change my head canon -- Fenris refused to talk to Varric about it, and Hawke probably wasn't telling him all the gory details.

Edit: It's also in his codex that he refused to speak of it (I believe) and that there's unresolved feelings etc etc etc.

that could very well be the case. I guess with Isabella it's very different. flirting and have flings are not the same as what Hawke and Fenris had together. I guess I have to think of it from the prespective of a man who spent 90% of his life as someone worthless, doing things he was told to and was deprived of a lot of things. Love, to him, is something very foreign, something he's afraid to have, afraid of losing after having. Plus, he's got no prior memory of him being loved by anyone, all he can remember is kill, life on the run, and hatred.

the guy is messed up. I guess it takes him 3 years to finallly get himself together to be with Hawke. I guess it's fair, he's not throwing his mess on Hawke like that

No amount of prodding works on me when I just flat don't want to discuss something. Whether I love the person or not, if I'm not ready to talk about it, I won't. So Hawke can go right ahead and prod, but that doesn't mean Fenris had to respond.

That said, that doesn't mean Hawke doesn't do it. And to be quite honest, it makes perfect sense to me how some would have their Hawkes move on. Three years is a long time. It's an awful long time, and someone who got sick of the reticence would move on, and Fen would have no one to blame but himself for the loss.

He flirts just fine with Izzy.

As for never met someone similar I give it that. That doesn't make them in an exclusive reationship seeing as I'm pretty certain he says it to a friend as well.

Where does he flirt with her?  I've only seen the one where he commands her to his bed.  :o

Oh, that could be- they decided not to have all the LIs chatting up the PC so you never see that unless Fenris isn't romanced.  Any of the banters I've heard between her and him have sounded like he's very unimpressed.  I can see it, though- he's not a lothario, but he's not a lunk of clay either.  His stoic is part of his charm for me.

Really? hmm...money was just not an issue with me. Well, I dont buy anything for anyone other than myself. If i have multiple weapons for the same class, I keep the one with the best stat and immediately moved the rest to junk. treasure hunting, sell, treasure hunting, sell. I don't know, If i didn't spend anything I bet I would've had over 200 soverigns

So this was mentioned way back when, but now that I've managed to fix the problem of registering my game (and therefore being able to post here again), I've got to mention the kidnapping. :D

In my first playthrough, I let my sibling live, so I didn't get Fen during that particular quest. But then I found out that he could be the hostage, so for my next go around, I specifically set it up so Fenris would be kidnapped. Cruel? Oh yes, since that scene with Bethany dying had me wailing at nearly two in the morning. But it was worth it when the quest finally arrived and the templar mentions a hostage.

It amuses me greatly that Fen took four people down before he was kidnapped. I don't think that happens with any other character, but I could be wrong. I almost wished there was a dialog option to ask him about it when you rescue him. My Hawke would have gone, "Only four? Fenris, I'm disappointed in you. I would have thought you'd take out at least ten."

And this is kinda embarrassing to admit, but whenever I see Fenris on screen, talking about his past, I have this strange desire to reach out and pet him.

Never before has a character turned me into a pile of mush.

I like it. :D

Yeah and a rivalry Hawke will just let it drop? Hawke has no problem aruging with Fen about everything else. Your arguement only works for certain Hawkes.  As does mine.

My issue is that none of my Hawkes are the type to just leave it be without getting something solid out of Fenris other than "I just can't."

I'm not sayin they would've forced him into a relationship. But they would've ended the issue one way or another before 3 years.

I never said he had to. I just wish there was some acknowledgement that Hawke had tried and got shut down. Maybe an aggressive option after his mentioning it that pretty much went "so now you want to talk?"

I play alot of aggresive/snarky Hawkes so yeah being constantly shut down would've been pretty much the end of it.

That's just me being greedy for more interaction though.

This is also true. At least this now makes me feel significantly less guilty about rebounding then.

@The silent treatment: Yeah..that builds a lot of resentment which would fit with Fen's "I wanted you to hate me." thing though.

Well he got what he asked for...in a sense. Hawke doesn't hate them nor did (some) of my Hawkes go running to someone else but years of being ignored did nothing for them seeing Fen in a romantic light.

Just replayed the last convo and with some twisting the aggressive options can be seen that way. Hawke's inflections kind of ruin it though. Sounds too neutral and not snarky/bitter enough. Ah well what can you do?

I can totally see my rivalry Hawke doing this, but after he yells at Fenris "You'll be back!" By doing that Hawke lays down the gaunlet and him Fenris compete to see who holds out the longest.

Should I even try to spare Carver? I was thinking of keeping him out of the Deeps so he can join the Templars. But I sort of want to rescue Fenris. Choices..

I wonder...is it just Fenris...or just people that you're romancing?

And just think about it. Both Fenris and Hawke are holding out for three years. Can you imagine what it was like when they finally did the deed. The Hawke Estate probably shook the whole city of Kirkwall. :wub:Someone needs to draw this.

In my imagination... after they make up in Act Three there are crazy times in front of that fireplace! Good thing Fenris lives alone XD

In Fenris's place? oh no, Hawke's place. It's cleaner, less run down, and technically Hawke lives alone as well ;)

She can simply request for some privacy, asking Sandal/Bodahn/Dog to go away for a while...shut the door, smirk at Fenris then push him onto the floor (coincidentally, by the fireplace). they'll eventually work their way up the stairs, past the balcony, and ends up in the bedroom. Whether they'll move around throughout the mansion...that's strictly up to them:wub:

*grumbles* I've wanted to kill Carver myslf frequently. YAY DEEP ROADS!!!

Also, I'm not a big fan of MOM right now either. First part of the game, I get yelled at for Bethany dying, then she's mourning Bethany. OK. Fine.

THEN Carver on my case CONSTANTLY. I try to spare mages, BAD SISTER, I try to NOT "free" a mage for a chantry sister "Now sister lets not anger the lady with a pet templar"...WHAT???

Now, we head to the deep roads and Mom not only basically says "I can live with it if Kathryn wants to risk HER life but Oh Carver no!" And then she gives me dirty looks on her way out. *sigh*

The twins were always Mom's favorites <_<

edit: +100ish Rivalry with Fenris. Sweeet

Sure, after he makes you miserable the first half. So it's easier to have him die so that I can see the kidnap thing than Bethany. Who is NICE the whole first part of the game and doesn't resent you. Unless you make her a GW...then she's icey for a while.

He gets mad in letters because, again it's another choice given to him that's out of his hands. But he was surprisingly understanding about Leandra's death, even if he didn't stay to help Hawke during the Qunari invasion. And if you continue to the end, he will thank Hawke for saving his life all those years ago and say he's proud of him/her. I think it's really worth it but I might be bias because I adore Carver and his little brother-ness.
