So this was mentioned way back when, but now that I've managed to fix the problem of registering my game (and therefore being able to post here again), I've got to mention the kidnapping. :D

In my first playthrough, I let my sibling live, so I didn't get Fen during that particular quest. But then I found out that he could be the hostage, so for my next go around, I specifically set it up so Fenris would be kidnapped. Cruel? Oh yes, since that scene with Bethany dying had me wailing at nearly two in the morning. But it was worth it when the quest finally arrived and the templar mentions a hostage.

It amuses me greatly that Fen took four people down before he was kidnapped. I don't think that happens with any other character, but I could be wrong. I almost wished there was a dialog option to ask him about it when you rescue him. My Hawke would have gone, "Only four? Fenris, I'm disappointed in you. I would have thought you'd take out at least ten."

And this is kinda embarrassing to admit, but whenever I see Fenris on screen, talking about his past, I have this strange desire to reach out and pet him.

Never before has a character turned me into a pile of mush.

I like it. :D

Sweet Andraste! I didn't know that. Right, next playthrough as a Mage - Buh-bye Carver! Image IPB (I just can't kill Bethany)

And the petting urge is nothing new, dear - welcome to the club! Image IPB

I wonder...is it just Fenris...or just people that you're romancing?

It depends on a few things.

If your sibling is alive, then they get kidnapped no matter what.

If your sibling is dead, then your romance option is the one that is taken hostage....but only if they are not in your current party. It doesn't make sense for your LI to be kidnapped while they're with you.

If your LI is in your party at the time of the quest, and your sibling is dead, then the hostage will be whomever has the highest friendship ranking is kidnapped.

I just gotta see if I'm the only thinking this... but does anyone else get that creepy feeling that Danarius did more than just beat him? o.O Y'know, like pedobear stuff >_>. It's just when he said "Do I detect a tone of jealousy? I'm not surprised, the boy is quite skilled, isn't he?" I was like "Skilled in what? :L"

I think it was mentioned somewhere here before that it is possible that Fenris did other things for his old master. Which is just icky IMO.

Although if you romance Fen, it takes things to another level.

It has been suggested, however, that Danarius was just saying that to make Hawke mad.

I'm on to him saying it to make Hawke mad. I prefer to believe that anyway. >.>

When I heard that I thought Danarius was referring to Hawke being jealous of him for creating Fenris and having control over him. Danarius seems arrogant enough to think that Fenris will still obey him without much of a fight, which he does unless Hawke helps him.

Even if I'm wrong I'm going to hold on to this theory, Fenris is already tragic enough.

Yeah... Isabela doesn't help anything. Image IPB I never caught(until my current playthrough, which is now at the very end) that she foreshadowed what Anders does at the end. I love finding all these things I missed on the first  playthrough~

Anders and Isabela have a string of 2-3 conversations in act 3(or, that's where I heard them, at least) on the subject of justice in the world. Isabela believes there is none. Anders tells her that there is justice in the world, to which the lady replies something along the lines of "so say you do something terrible, and a ton of innocents are slaughtered, do they deserve justice?" Anders answers yes, and Isabela asks when it would end. "It's like a bar brawl. Everyone gets involved and in the end no one remembers how it started."
Not exact quotes at all. Sorry.

Also, the conversation hinting that Fenris and Isabela have a thing going is not only for those who romanced him and then left for someone else when he walked out.

I wish that we saw more of Danarius in-game, there was this huge build up in acts 1 and 2, along with stories of how Magisters are these powerful mages who have held off the Qunari with raw magical power.

And then Danarius goes down with a liberal amount of dispell magic, hex of torment, and mighty blow. While Nightmare did offer more of a challenge, I was sort of hoping for an over the top battle, something along the lines of Fenris and Hawke tearing through half of an Imperial Legion and then fighting the Magister himself only to then have Varric switch to what really happened.

Or even having a scene like this after the end of the quest would be cool.

How did Isabela foreshadow what Anders did?

As awesome as it would have been to have an all out epic battle for Fenris, I think it was a fitting end for Danarius. It shows that he was nothing, but a disgustingly pathetic worm whom Hawke thoroughly crushed beneath his boot heel. I love replaying that scene.

I noticed that too. Kind of amused me though. Fenris must have lost  his sense of smell.

Well...looks like Fenris is getting kidnapped in my next play through, after they come out with a patch of course lol

They certainly left it open to interpretation.  But Fenris does claim he was the bodyguard... to Isabela glistening comment

Well, it would only make Hawke mad if he/she is romancing Fenris wouldn't it? My first playthrough, I didn't romance him and I had the same reaction from Danarius. Truthfull I've always taken that as him insinuating that he made Fenris did more.

but it's contradicting in my head too because Fenris did say if he's never done it, that he can remember of course.

I heard that banter, the foreshadowing part on my 2nd playthrough, and it happened while we're in the Gallows before I tured in Best Served Cold. Kinda creepy.

I dont think I've gotten the glistening comment, not that I can remember anyways

Well Copngrats Rivalfen, you've made sure this lady hawke won't touch Anders, ...

SHE HAS NO HEART LEFT YOU...oh damn you Fenris

??  O.o;  Okay...I need to rivalmance that elf NOW...>.>

*hands you the tissues and punching bag* You'll need both.

*curses Mister Gaider on her way to bed*

LOL  Thanks, I probably will...I'm not good at being mean to Fenris, but I want the smexy, angry elf this time...>.>;

Oh you don't have to be mean at all. first I'm a mage, so I made all pro-mage decisions from the start. That's pretty much enough I think.

I've made all diplomatic replies mostly except for a couple where snark  was deserved. Speaking of, I love how Varric explains the dilog wheel for us when we meet Sebastian

"hawke said sarcastically..."
"hawke said diplomatically"
"hawke said aggressively"

Funny thing... I started my Mage thinking I was going to go for the rivalmance with Fen and friendship with Anders, but it seems it's turned around Fen is starting to be my friend and Anders might hate my guts. I think I'll just run with it cause I have yet to have a rivalship with anyone. My characters are just too likable I guess. ;-)

On my Anders-romance playthrough, I wanted to try a rivalry relationship(non-romantic, obviously) with Fen. Somehow, it's hard for me. I brought him along and made all the same deciscions I have in the past that he didn't  like. And suddenly I'm at %100 friendship. Image IPB I think it's all the "personal" conversations you can have with characters that really drive the friendship/rivalry slider. Image IPB

Bwahaha, I'm so weak. Got to the scene where Anders visits you at your estate, and I ended up sabotaging the romance.. He asked my lady Hawke if she was sure if she wanted him to be there, then said 'I thought you and Fenris... Or did the beast finally turn on you?' - Now, my plan had been to rival-mance Fneris up until the point where he dumps you, then get with Anders, and I had done just that so far... But as soon as he said that I raged at the word 'beast' and insta-clicked the 'I love him' option, to which my lovely lady Hawke gave a venemous response of 'Don't call him that!! Sorry Anders, we can't do this'. Anders got mad and replied with 'Fine. Whatever you see in a maniac like that.. Perhaps at least your hand will tame him' and he left.

Oopsies. Damn you Fenris! Must resist.. Luckily I had saved just before this point so I'm going to force myself to play it again and overlook Anders' jerk-y comment. I want to complete the Anders romance at least once Image IPB

Lady Jess: Hee, first playthrough, rival romance with a mage, I had exactly the same reaction. That 'never should have happened line' coupled with the prior quest conclusion one of magic spoiling everything it touches (paraphrasing here because I don't recall the actual one) and my poor Hawke was pretty darn heartbroken for a good while after. It can seriously mess with you if playing it unspoiled and for the first time :).

It was brutal. He says that thing after Hadriana my Hawke stood there all O.o ran back home to throw things and found him in her entrance way, got shoved against the wall realized all their bickering (rp..obviously not much option in the actual game, dammit that sucks) didn't matter she was in loveeeeeeeee and poof he walks out saying that...that was as bad as the Alistair break up!!!

and Man you realize we had to go RIGHT PAST my Mother, bodahn, sandal and that elf girl??? They know he walked out on me...Hawke may never leave her room again.

I pictured it as: Leandra open the door, Fenris comes and asked for Hawke. Leandra asked him to come in, let him know Hawke's not there but he's welcome to wait. Fenris chose to wait by the entry way. Leandra then tastefully say something like "ah, I've been meaning to go check out some new robes, Bodahn and Sandal, care to join me?" and proceed to take everyone with her as I come in.

I rather think of it that way to make it less awkward for me.

and man...don't get me started with Alistair. Can't believe he ditched me because I wasn't a Cousland...so for that I made sure Anora did not become his wife. I wasn't gonna be his mistress, no way. I got mad, start new playthrough, changed difficulty and become a Cousland. rush through just so that I have an ending with me marrying Alistair. UGH.
