So this was mentioned way back when, but now that I've managed to fix the problem of registering my game (and therefore being able to post here again), I've got to mention the kidnapping.
In my first playthrough, I let my sibling live, so I didn't get Fen during that particular quest. But then I found out that he could be the hostage, so for my next go around, I specifically set it up so Fenris would be kidnapped. Cruel? Oh yes, since that scene with Bethany dying had me wailing at nearly two in the morning. But it was worth it when the quest finally arrived and the templar mentions a hostage.
It amuses me greatly that Fen took four people down before he was kidnapped. I don't think that happens with any other character, but I could be wrong. I almost wished there was a dialog option to ask him about it when you rescue him. My Hawke would have gone, "Only four? Fenris, I'm disappointed in you. I would have thought you'd take out at least ten."
And this is kinda embarrassing to admit, but whenever I see Fenris on screen, talking about his past, I have this strange desire to reach out and pet him.
Never before has a character turned me into a pile of mush.
I like it.
Sweet Andraste! I didn't know that. Right, next playthrough as a Mage - Buh-bye Carver!(I just can't kill Bethany)
And the petting urge is nothing new, dear - welcome to the club!
I wonder...is it just Fenris...or just people that you're romancing?
It depends on a few things.
If your sibling is alive, then they get kidnapped no matter what.
If your sibling is dead, then your romance option is the one that is taken hostage....but only if they are not in your current party. It doesn't make sense for your LI to be kidnapped while they're with you.
If your LI is in your party at the time of the quest, and your sibling is dead, then the hostage will be whomever has the highest friendship ranking is kidnapped.
