Darnarius seemed to use the lyrium as a power supply. And seeing as Fenris was his bodyguard, he would be around him a lot. So, it seems his tattoos do not really harm mages. Well, unless you count the phasing into your heart as a danger.

So, do you all suggest I try and get friendship maxed and see if I'll get a scene later in act 2? Is that even possible?

Did you flirt with him before? Throughout the game, when you talk to him there should be a few flirt options...You have to have done that before the hadriana quest in order to trigger the hanky panky scene. Otherwise you are just friends with him and don't get the option to flirt.

Haha! It took a lot of random trying and going after to do the questioning beliefs quest and about 5 reloads to get proper answers but I did it!

So. I was thinking a bit. And I came to a thought. If I recall correctly, prolonged exposure to lyrium, or lerhaps a lot of it at once, I can't remember which, is toxic for a mage. It's why the Tranquil and dwarves are so important to enchantment and why Templar "magic" is so dangerous to mages.

I notice a lot of people are romancing Fenris as mages.

Is it possible his tattoos would have an effect?

I'm not sure if it's a plausible theory or if it's been brought up before, but it's interesting to consider the rammifications, I guess.

(Pardon any typos, I'm typing from my phone, herp derp)

I always figured that if there were any kind of effect(especially negative), it would be with Fenris himself, not anyone he is "with". Though... considering mages drink lyrium to replenish mana... would contact with Fenris give them some kind of an energy high, or something?
...my mage Lady Hawke is going to start clinging to Fenris whenever her mana gets too low in battle, from now on. Image IPB

Mana battery! That would be amusing to write in fanfiction, for certain.

Am I the only one that sees "Lady Hawke" and thinks of an 80s movie starring Matthew Broderick?

It's a metal, and it's poisonous to EVERYONE.  It's only 'safe' in it's processed form.  Proximity to it has made the dwarves MOSTLY immune, but contact to pure lyrium can cause serious injury, psychosis, or for mages, death.

I just want to express my frustration with how much I love this game - and especially Fenris. I am on my THIRD playthrough and I still can't stop thinking about it. I have 3 papers to write and a midterm to study for by wednesday and all I want to do is play this game! It's very distracting.

Well I'm glad I'm not completely insane, then. ;)

Even processed lyrium is dangerous. In its processed form, lyrium may be handled by anyone, but long term exposure or a single mistake while working with it can lead to serious side effects such as emotional instability or complete psychosis.

Holy crap this thread is huge. Well I have a question concerning Fenris and I think you're all the people to ask.

So once again I'm trying to romance him and boy is he a tough sonnova ****. I've never flirted with with anyone else, always asked him about his past, given him his first gift, gave the slave girl money, and allowed him to kill Hadriana and nearly have a 100% in approval. But when I get to my house and he apologizes to Hawke, I don't get the prompt to have her tell him not to leave. (And last game I had done his Questioning Beliefs prior to Bitter Pill, got that <3 option and he just left.)

Suggestions? I rather tempted to restart act 2 to remedy this if I have too.

He will not jump you if you haven't done the Questioning Beliefs quest. It is just a conversation, but if you do it BEFORE A Bitter Pill, the Don't Go option will pop up. If it doesn't, go have the convo, then go home at night, he'll charge at you like a riled up bull! :)

Guess that is the reason why Anders refuses to play Hot Lyrium with everyone.

Fenris: [quirks a brow as Hawke clings to him]
Hawke: [nervous laugh] I'm... out of potions?
Merrill: [holds up some lyrium potions] No, there are still plenty here!
Hawke: Thank you, Merrill...
Merrill: You're welcome!

Quick question Fenris fans, i've just started a new playthrough and was friends with fenris last time, and was planning to make him a rival this time, does he have some good conversations as a rival or should i just go friendship again, and does he act like an ass to you if you're rivals (like anders does)

My point still stands, then. It just applies to more people. Is he toxic?

Great, now I have a Britney Spears song stuck in my head, and I don't even like her music. <_<

I think if he was toxic it would've come up in the game at some point.  He would've known, so wouldn't he have said something to Hawke about being dangerous even to touch?

Even if he is, could you resist him? I couldn't.
It is an interesting point, though. It brings up another question for me as well. If Lyrium is so toxic and unpredictable and dangerous, is Fenris Denarious' first 'project(?)' 'creation(?)' or just his first success? Did he try this before and just got failures, or was he just incredibly lucky having it succeed the first time? It probably doesn't matter, but I think it is an interesting line of thought.

possibly. depends on how treated the lyrium is.  given how much agony it causes him to this day, its clearly harmful to he himself.  but i doubt it'd be of much harm to others given that its IN his skin.  if his skin were ingested it'd probably be very poisonous. its clearly toxic to himself, thats likely where his uncontrollable temper comes from. lyrium is notorious for causing psychosis.

Even if it was his first try I bet many other slaves died I am thinking Denarious performed the ritual with blood magic and lyrium.

I got that song stuck in my head too. Glad it's not just me. xD

Good point, whitesell. Danarius was pretty twisted... And they do say the experiment was a big investment.
