So, you're saying that after 'Alone', I should have gotten his second questioning beliefs quest? Cuz, I didn't have him at full rivalry at that point (still don't).

You get another Questioning Beliefs quest in Act III, when you have his Friendship or Rivalry maxed out.

Alright. So even though I'm pretty much at the end of the game...maybe there's still a chance to get full rivalry? *crosses fingers* I'm very very close. Maybe like 20 points away. I wish the game would tell you how many you need....

I actually had the same problem during my first playthrough. I went for a Friendship romance, but then made the mistake of dragging him with me to mage-related quests. Cost me some precious points right there. Even resulted in me not having enough points at the end to continue the romance, so I ended up having to reroll my character. No fun. No fun at all.

Here's hoping you won't get the same situation! I'm not sure on what The Last Straw quest you're on, but if you just drag Fenris with you to every conversation with Meredith and Orsino, and pick the pro-mage options, you -should- be fine.

No, but if you do The Long Road after having romanced Fenris, she will make a comment along the lines of "How do you and Fenris deal with this?". The pained look Hawke gives her is just amazingly well done.

Maker, yes!

I got that on my second playthrough and I felt so bad for my rogue Hawke.  That really was some nice animation there....and then Fenris is just standing in the background looking sort of herp derp...I remember thinking "Fenris, you complete a**!" ... :pinched:

I remember watching one of the pre-release interviews when the guys mentioned taking some inspiration from productions like "The Princess Bride"  Now those of you who watched the film ( a really good old school classic btw) should get the connection right away when I say that Fenris answers "As you wish

Cassandra: Wait, the Champion had an elven lover?

Varric: Yes, but that's not important, you're more interested in what happened with the Qunari aren't you? (notices Cassandra staring at him) No offense Seeker, but mushy stories don't really seem like they'd be your sort of thing.

Cassandra: Are you implying something dwarf?

Varric: Not at all.

Cassandra: Then tell me the story.

Varric: Very well, once upon a time in the land of Kirkwall there was a beautiful woman named Hawke. She had many hobbies, but her favorite was tormenting the local elf-boy Fenris. Every time she tried to get under his skin with outrageous requests Fenris would always respond by saying "As you wish..."

(A few hours later)

Varric: ...and then Fenris was killed. (notices Cassandra is crying) You alright Seeker?

Cassandra: Did he really die?

Varric: Don't worry, it all works out in the end, but you probably don't want to hear about...

Cassandra: Tell me!

Varric: Alright, alright....

(Anders' Clinic)

Isabela: Is he dead?

Anders: Lucily for you you're friend here is only mostly dead.

Isabela: Mostly dead? How can someone be mostly dead? That's inconceivable.

Anders: Oh so you're the medical expert now. Look, there's a big difference between dead, and mostly dead. Mostly dead, I can fix.

Isabela: What would you do if he was dead?

Anders: Search his pockets for loose change?

This was wonderful! Thank you! hahaha I LOVED that movie - I have no idea how many times I have seen it. One of my favorites. I grew up with it. "Anybody want a peanut?" ;)

Yes, a reroll WOULD suck. :/ I'm very attached to my current Hawke. Wouldn't want to redo him all over again.

I haven't done anything yet with the Last Straw. The description pretty much says, "Look for letter from both Meredith and Orsino. As far as Best Served Cold, it says to go talk to Orsino in the Templar Hall. I'm saving that quest for after all my other ones are done.

I've been bringing Fenris with me EVERYWHERE, lol. Accidentally got +5 friendship with him after Merrill's last quest. >_>

Oh yeah! I just remembered, I haven't given him his last gift yet that I'm supposed to get in 'Best Served Cold.' Will that give me rivalry?

Huzzah, YES.  I'm not certain about the amount, tho...Just pick aggressive answers (those are more likely to cause rival points), and in the end he gets SUPER pissy...XD

I KNOW!  My Lady Hawke looked SO uncomfortable in that scene and Fenris is standing back there behind her, just kinda...there.  I would expect him to at least look away or act uncomfortable, too.

It entirely depends on how you play. If you want a Rivalry romance, you can safely take him with you on mage-related quests and be pro-mage, considering how it gives you rivalry points.

If you want a Friendship romance, being anti-mage is the easiest way to gain points. If you still want to be pro-mage, then you might want to leave him at home when dealing with magi.

Regarding Sundermount, I assume this is about Merrill's quests? You can actually take him along, once again depending on your playstyle. If you're going for Rivalry, be friendly to Merrill and approve of or at least show leniency towards her. If you're going for Friendship, condemn her actions.

In Act 2, if you take Fenris with you when travelling to The Bone Pit or Sundermount (not Wounded Coast), you will get a random encounter which will lead to his personal quest. I won't spoil what it's about, but you will want to do that quest as soon as possible, considering how he will leave the party if he thinks it's taking too long. So that explains the 'romance kicking off outside Kirkwall'-part.

Just as a tip; get Fenris' Rivalry/Friendship up to at least 50% before doing his personal quest. If you do so, you get another quest called Questioning Beliefs. I'd recommend completing that one before taking Fenris with you outside of Kirkwall.

Hi all, I adore following this thread!
Being a massive Anders fan I had no doubts that he would be my first (and maybe only) romance in DA2. Then I recruited Fenris.... and, oh Maker how that changed :)
I am curious, does anyone have a ballpark age on the elf at the time of recruitment? I've tried a bit of research + creative number crunching and my guess is somewhere between 26 - 28? But that almost seems a bit too old for his face, perhaps I am stuck on the smexy maturity of his voice...

Well... I place my Hawke at a ridiculous age. Bethany and Carver are 18 during Prologue (if I am correct), and I place my Hawkette (at least my custom mage, who is my primary character, mainly because she looks really young. Default Fem!Hawke I would have to say is around 22-23 during Prologue at least) at a year older, being 19 at the Prologue. When she meets Fenris, she's then about 20. I usually imagine LI are older then my character by either a year or two, but the weathered look on Fenris's face gives me the impression that I actually want to place him at 24-25 min. when you first see him. Possibly 29-30.

Which, the age difference isn't so odd. I did NWN2-- what they wanted to pair you off with if you were playing a human with default age was creepy... (a 18 year old with a creepy, three-word-vocab 40 year old?! *Changes age and mods game to get better LI*)

Evindell wrote...

Gah! I meant to come on here and say this when I heard it in game, but then I forgot because I was playing, so now I can't remember which quest it was exactly. But there's some quest when you go into a warehouse and Fenris makes his dislike of fish known. I laughed pretty hard. He made a disgusted noise and then said something like "Fish, fish, and more fish..." and then something about how we should find what we were looking for and get out. It's just a little instance of characters having natural likes and dislikes that made me smile. So, no cooking fish for Fenris...^_^

Gamelen's Greatest Treasure-- Act III. Fenris also makes a comment (if you click on him on the docks) that he didn't think the city could smell any worse until they got there. Merrill, hilariously, always points out how the docks "always smell like cabbage" if you click her.

How she says "cabbage" made me have the same reaction as when Fem!Hawke says "hobby" ("Castillion isn't a very happy person. Maybe he needs a new hobby. *Awkward smile*") during the quest when you get Isabela: D'aw!

Depends on a lot of things.  Are you going for a friendmance or a rivalmance?  It also depends on the Hawke you're playing.  I played sarcastic Hawke and took a neutral stand against most mages/templar debates but drew a hard line against blood magic/dealing with demons.  And no tolerance for slavers.  I took him with me everywhere and it wasn't that hard to max his friend meter choosing sarcastic options mostly (and flirt whenever possible, lol).

But it is a lot easier to friendmance him (or max out the bar) if you're a complete and utter dick to all mages, everywhere (especially Merrill, he hates her cute little guts).  That said, you can go the opposite route and be complete libertarian for mages and especially a blood magic supporter and you're sure to get to full rivalry.

Not sure what you mean about the second question...though in Act II the main events of "A Bitter Pill" start outside of Krikwall.  Should just happen while randomly traveling outside of Kirkwall, the game will trigger it automatically.  If you've flirted with him previously and have at least 50% rivalry or friendship the conclusion of the quest can end with sexytimez.

Thanks to all who replied about Fenris' age, I'd go back and quote them all -- but that would be a large block of text!

I am all for a 28 - 30 year old Fenris, being about that age myself - I feel a wee bit less creepy.

Earlier today, a fellow group member (thanks, inclemency!) pointed out that she took too long to get around to "A Bitter Pill" and ended up triggering an encounter called "Wrong Way." Basically Hadrianna tracks Fenris down instead and after wiping them out, Fenris turns in anger to Hawke and issues a "help me NOW or I'm leaving" ultimanium.  I checked it out and uploaded a video for this thread with all three possible responses. Rivalry gains range from +5 to +20.

(I had looked on youtube and couldn't find a video to watch, hence the upload here.)

So I was watching the convo after romancing Anders, and one of the options had Hawke asking if he wanted a sandwich. That got me thinking on how something like that would go with the Fenris romance.

Hawke:[upon hearing Fenris has started remembering his past] I'm starving. Would you like some waffles?

Fenris: Perhaps you do not realize how upseting this is.

Hawke: I should go see if Bodahn got the ingredients from the market like I asked him to.

Fenris: Are you even listening to me?

Hawke: I like waffles. Oooh, how about pancakes? Nothing says 'Hey thanks for the sex' like pancakes!

Fenris: <_<

Yeah I did that on my game where I was desperately trying to move the rivalry further.  Also because, y'know, more angry hawt.

BTW if you click on Fenris shortly after "All That Remains," he actually has more to say about losing your mother than he says in the scene at the mansion.
