It's Gaider. The man is truly gifted at writing amazingly romancable characters.

I still need to romance Bela and Merill...maybe after Navarre and Isabeau...

He is.  He's given me Alistair (though Alistair hurt my city elf too badly for me to be able to seriously romance him), Zevran, and now Fenris.  He just knows exactly what chords to hit and what strings to pull with those dialogs.

And it doesn't hurt that those three voice actors just nailed their romantic lines so perfectly.

Seriously. Those VAs are just...perfect....

Seriously. When my Hawke met him, and he opened his mouth and that voice came out, she forgot all about that dude in the clinic. You know, that mage, whatshisname. She was too busy melting, rofl

It's amazing the impact a voice can have. Sort of like my fondness for Garrus. Yeah, he's a big scaly bony guy. But the voice.... it's all about the voice.

I know.... if I hadn't planned my first runthrough to romance Anders, I would have had my rogue say ta-ta to the possessed mage and jumped all over Fenris...

I tried to romance Anders, I really did - but Fenris was just too irresistable!

Same here Surreal. I wanted my rogueHawke to romance Anders, but unlike yours, she just wouldn't do as told and went for Fenris right after meeting him. And his voice.

True, true. The right voice has a lot to do with the melt-factor. I guess my PC's are the gravelly/broody/forceful voice kind of girls. Just ask Valen (HotU). My PC was hit with the brainmelt hammer the second she heard the tiefling's voice.

I romanced Anders my second playthrough after she got dumped by Fenris (I wanted to see it) and spent all of act 3 wishing I could dump him for Fenris. Seriously, act three sucked with the banters (I got all the stomach-punch ones). Merrill giving him a hard time because he still loved Hawke, Fenris telling Anders to treat Hawke right or he'd kill him, listening to him and Isabela make plans for sex... God, that sucked. Good thing act 3 is short.

Edit: You know, I'm glad I did the first two playthroughs pretty much unspoiled.  But that Anders one really did hurt because of the banters.  I'm not sure if it's awful or good that a game can bring out those feelings.

I hated Anders' romance -- it is well written, and I see the appeal, but it struck a nerve with me and I was feeling suffocated and helpless.  Interesting how it made me feel.

Oh gods. That made me laugh so hard. I apologize EJ, I know you hated that story-line, but that post brought back pleasant memories. You rock. Thanks for sparing me from having to try myself and hating every minute of it :P

*grin* That playthrough really was its own special brand of misery.  I actually would have most likely hit that my first playthrough, but Anders was pretty neutral so I couldn't start the romance.  I'm sure the writers were laughing when writing those banters.  Anders goodbye before the final battle IS sweet (no kiss though) and Fenris' not-romanced talk is also nice, but yeh.

The Isabela/Fenris banter WAS a surprise though.  I was torn between, "Good for them," and wanting to go hit something!

I'm not sure Fenris need a FAQ though; he's MUCH more straightforward than Zevran.

Agreed. Gotta love a 'bedroom voice'. Interestingly, I now know why I like Fenris's so much - it's the same voice actor that did Balthier in FF12. Mmm...

Me too! I remember spending many happy hours on FF12, just randomly clicking on Balthier so he would talk! :D

Oh, my first rogue Lady Hawke was all over Anders. She failed to get Fenris' bar maxed out, so she ended up killing him... that so sucked... I never used Bela that run through, so lost her in act 2.

My Pro-circle Mage Lady Hawke was all over Fenris, however, and managed to keep Bela. My party that game was Fenris, Bela and Varric.

Last run was again, a pro-Circle Ranged Rogue... but in the end turned on the Templars for her sister(who I let get taken off to the Circle). Again, all over Fenris.

Right now (or when I get to the PS3 next), I will continue working on Navarre, a Pro-Mage DPS mage Lord Hawke, who will be rivalmancing Fen.

Edit: Oh, god, I will never be able to play FF12 again...

Ok, I have to admit this. One of my favorite parts about Fenris' romance is that after the sexytime scene how his battle tactics apparently change and he goes out of his way to protect Hawke if being attacked. It doesn't happen with a friendship or before the sexytime (unless you set your tactics that way) but it's noticeable once they've made love. He just comes flying out of nowhere to attack what is attacking Hawke.

Fabulous touch!

Really? It's only after they've made love? I could have sworn he did that before-hand too...

-Scratches head- hmm now that you say that. indeed it felt like he did it more often if not always after the romance in act II ...

I never reflected over it much though. XD

I've not seen him leave a group of mobs to come to Hawke's rescue before the sexytime, though he does it just about every time afterwards, though maybe I'm just looking for things.

No, it is not.  It seems to be built in AI.  Zevran had it in his tactics menu (though it was a rogue backstab thing -- Daveth did as well).

Edit: Though again, it COULD be my imagination.  But I swear it happens now!

I never noticed that with Zev but like 98% of my playthroughes were Alimances. That and I have this thing, where something is super obvious and I always miss it until someone points it out to me.

edit- the requires testing! <3

Zev would do it without being romanced...

Hm. I will have to watch Fen during Navarre's run...see if you are right Ejoslin.

Edit: yes, I thought that art was great

It was a rogue thing, not a romance thing.  Daveth was the same way (tactics set or not).  If they attack a target that is attacking someone else, there's more a chance they'll be backstabbing.  Fenris', at least to me, seems to be romance related which is cool.

I see... Huh. I never really messed with their tactics.  Will still have to watch during Navarre's run.

Hmmm... I always have Fenris setup to come help Hawke if she's being attacked by melee... maybe I'll remove that after the romance and see if he still comes to my rescue. I always manage to do way too much damage for enemies to ignore me, LOL.

He does it less with my warrior then he did with my mage, but yes, he flies out of no where, peeling off his target to attack what ever is punching hawke in the face. He also says, "NO, I WONT LET YOU FALL" really really loud once you've romanced him (and you get knocked unconcious).

I've got a M!Hawke playthrough active at the moment, and I JUST COULDN'T romance Fenris with him. I can't ruin my F!Hawke/Fen love afair by making him gay. Couldn't do it!:crying: I totally hit on anders though, just to see what it looked like. Then once that whole thing was done, I went back to an old save and made out with Isabela for the remander of the play through. If I can't have fen, then neither can she!

Oh wow....

dammit,  now I'm half tempted to let Navarre die in combat one of these times after Bitter Pill just to hear that.
