And unrelated, but thanks to your signature that song is now stuck in my head.

Any day that you don't have a cheezy glam rock song stuck in your head is a day wasted. :D

It just made me think of Velvet Goldmine and Ewan McGregor.... definitely a good day. *scurries away*

You do realize this this conversation may push me to finally write the crack story I've been meaning to...

Zoolander meets DA2... It's a Brood off... Nathaniel vs. Fenris.

I just haven't been able to decide who would play the part of David Bowie yet.

If you rivalmance Fenris and side with the mages in the end, are you forced to kill him?

I ran that dialogue with Fenris... but I had to reload because:
1. Not even my evil mage is that detached from his family, friends and history
2. It's obvious roots are something Fenris desperately wants... family, roots, these things seem to move him even if he does not say so much.

If you have him at 100% he won't budge from your side.
If it's lower, he might leave and then come back if you choose the option about how mages are slaves.  Must be over 75% or something in rivalry for that.

No, if you are maxxed rival, he will not make you kill him and will fight at your side.

the slave that followed Andraste, coshe wanted a place and feedom for elves. In dao , you meet some Shartan ghost , you must answer a riddle , and the good word is :Home.

Awesome, thanks. :) Didn't want to start my mage playthrough and get to the end with a Fenris death.

I give up! I don't think anyone in game said it, perhaps someone on the forums said it...
But for sure the red thing is a favor from Hawke and he's wearing her family crest... it's very much akin to knights wearing their lady's favour and such.
So... I'll keep being all sorts of romantic fool and believe that's what he's doing because he is such a protective gentleman (except in private hehehehe not a gentleman there o.O)

Is it even possible to have him really romanced if below maxed in act 3?  I believe you need that in order to finish the questioning beliefs quest.

Anyway, as others have said, he'll stick with you no matter what as long has he's maxed -- friend or romance partner.

That's certainly a much better train of thought than thinking of Fenris as a creeper that went through Hawke's panty drawer while she slept   (not that she would have minded such a creeper).

Oh, David Gaider said it was Hawke's favor.  In this thread.  Just click on the "bioware" logo on the thread (from the forum page) to see it.  I think it was one of his last posts.

The answer is obviously Orsino. He simply could NOT be more fierce.

Also: PLEASE DO THIS.

Wade.

Edit: Never mind, vedlingtonii is totally right.  Orsino.

I think y'all are totally onto something there.  I had been leaning to Loghain making an appearance to show up the young ones, but Orsino works as well.

Hahahaha, my husband does NOT get dragon age at all. I tried to get him to play Origins (I figured he'd fall in love with Morrigan and quit teasing me about Zevran) but he couldn't get through the origins. He has no interest in DA2 either -- he's a FPS type person. He'll play games like FO3/NV and Bioshock, but nope, no BW games.

His reaction to Fenris was, "Oh god, another elf." He's hilarious. At least he hasn't started impersonating him like he did with Zevran for months (actually, he does a GREAT Zevran so I didn't mind too much).

Edit: I don't know if that banter comes up if neither is romanced, or if Fenris and Hawke had sexytime and then Hawke moved on and Bela isn't romanced.  I've never played a game where he just wasn't romanced at all.

It was unexpected, that banter, to say the least.  I seriously felt jealous!  I had been thinking after Merrill's banter that there was a chance of them getting back together and then heard that and was just, UUUUUUUGGGGGH!

My husband is the same he doesn't play much and when he does it is COD etc.......... He loves to watch some of the games I play though (he likes to watch FF and other JRPGs being played FFXII was a particular fave)
Don't think I ever won't romance Fen, since I can't separate myself from the knowledge of what Anders does, it is impossible for me not to metagame.............. Ho hum

You know when you take Fenris with you to meet Flemeth , she tells him "the chains are broken but are you truly free?"
And he's not.But Danarius is not the problem. Fenris is trapped in a world of anger and bitterness and has no clue how to get out of it.
I think he wants something from hawke ,not just somebody to help with the slavers.
Maybe a way to move on , it can be love , friendship , just respect etc...

What he wants is an anchor, in the form of human relationships (of any kind, not necessarily romantic), and purpose in life. I don't think he himself realizes this though until Act 3. Really he's the only one holding himself back, but without anyone or anything else in the world to care about it's hard for him to focus on anything besides his own demons.

Interestingly he has the exact opposite problem that Anders has. Anders suffers from an excess of purpose while Fenris has none. For this reason the scenes where you can get him to leave the party and go wandering wherever kind of make me sadder than the ones where you can hand him back to Danarius (or kill him).

I think the cruelest things you can do to Fenris are A. let him kill his sister, or B. set him adrift again. I really think that's meaner and more insidious than just outright killing him or handing him over.

The way you play that conversation depends much on interpretation, I think. It doesn't need to be indicative that Hawke is insensitive and detached. Remember, her and Fenris only just met, and the question may strike as too personal, triggering a defensive response of "I've started a life here.' It doesn't even strike me as an answer, more of Hawke's wish to avoid the topic entierly.

And when he presses on, well easy to resign with "what more do you want?" :)

Also, anyone... I'm having a hell of a time triggering Varrick's friendly concern talk. Third playthrough and nothing :(. Varrick sitting at almost maxed friendship too. What other variables are there?

"Ferelden" wasn't so much home as Lothering was, and Lothering is gone, their house is gone, everything that physically made Ferelden home is gone. But in Kirkwall we have Mom, Sibling, a life. So really my Hawke can make "home" anywhere, it's more of an idea than a place. "Home is where the heart is".  I'm planning my 3rd move in 9 years, it doesn't bother me...because my husband and kids are "home". Not the physical location, not that little town in PA.

I played the scene where he kills Valania and had to reload.  Not before wincing at "I would have given you everything."  Posted Image

I was moved at Hawke's plea for Valania if the sibling died in the Deep Roads.  She says "I killed my brother, I know what I'm talking about."

I have to admit I haven't let him kill his sister yet but was considering doing it this PT to see the scene.  But ugh, that sounds just totally rough.

I had Varric in my party (He'd killed Bartrand), and he says Fenris's NAME.  For what I'm pretty sure is the FIRST damn time.
"Elf...Fenris, don't.  It won't help.  Trust me."

I let Valania die in my third play through. Just to see what the outcome would be in the end. I am such a MONSTER

Its actually a bit sweet. Fenris says "I would have given you everything" before Kali Maing her.

I actually wished that there was a little bit of an expanded role for Varenia. To quote Hawke "Friends sometimes push."

Fenris: No.

Hawke: Why?

Fenris: She sold us out to Danarius, she lied to me, all in the name of becoming a Magister!

Hawke: She's your sister!

Fenris: What do I say then? Nice weather we're having how have the blood rituals been treating you?

Hawke: Try 'hello', it's worked for centuries.

Fenris: You are an impossible woman.

Hawke: I know.
