I always got the picture, at least for the friendmance, that they are still together and expressively NOT sleeping with each other. As if.. Its to early for me to think and I'm not going to explain this right..

In those three years, they've both, probably individually since they don't talk about that night, have decided that there really is just no one else in the whole of Thedas for either of them but each other. There even could have been a 'There's no body else I want, so if I can't fully have you, then knowing that I love you is going to just have to be enough.' conversation. Can you imagine the romance novel implications?

Trying not to kiss and touch him, but being oh-so-close and knowing he feels the same way about you.. never letting yourself be alone in a room with him for fear of that unspoken passion exploding? eh eh? *fans self*

Varric: Great game, Hawke. When did you get so good at cards?

Hawke: Isabela's been teaching me. I've got the sinking suspicion she's trying to sleep with me..

Fenris abruptly stands, dropping his cards to the table. Hawke glances up at him, the emotion in her eyes not quite reachign the rest of her face.

Fenris: Yes, well. Good night.

Varric: Hawke, you should walk the elf home. Its late and you don't know who'll try and assault him. All that broody squatting has earned him quite the fanclub with the noble teenaged girls. *chuckles and winks*

Hawke*quietly seething*: Alright..

Utterly silent walk home, standing far enough apart so they can't accidentally touch. Nom nom sexual tention I need to break out word and write this ..

LOL - you and me both (except I cannot write). Do you have LJ or something where I can read your fic?

See this is what I mean with it being a good thing with those years not being written out already. It gives us all the chance to write our own version, or read someone elses if we don't want to write it ourselves. I've actually started to really think about how my characters everyday relationship is with all her companions since I decided to write about her and it is actually ather facinating... especially since for some reason I find myself slightly rewriting some scenes that are in the game already - just to fit them more with my version. Mainly stuff like moving a talk from one location to another or adding in some extra emotions or characters in a scene.

Gah now I want to sit down and continue writing instead of finishing Merrills companion quest in act II .b But if I don't finish this quest I will never get to act III and then I can't record the Fenris scenes there for inspiration -.-

I really don't think they're "together" during those three years or the makeup dialogue doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Fenris' feelings haven't changed at all, however, and he's not very good at hiding them.

This is what I got from it.  They're not together, but it's obvious to everyone else especially that they still care for each other.

Clearly I need to ramp up my difficulty setting.  Two times through that fight with a romanced Fen and she's never done that. ;_;  She spiked Isabela last time, though.  As much as I <3 her, I lawled.

clearly, i never got that either...
but then again i'm on the xbox, they dont show battle cries with subtitles i dont think. I'll see whats up when i get there

I get the feeling I'm the only one who doesn't mind the new designs  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]  I mean, in Origins, they were basically small humans with pointy ears.  In this, they look different and unique and inhuman.  I don't really see a problem with the redesign.  I like the overly petite builds (though I thought Merrill nekkid looked a bit like an alien...), the too large eyes and the less human look to them.

That aside, I think if they were going to update Zeveran's look, they should have done a better job.  He looked terrible.  I wasn't too happy with Alistair's new look, either, but I think Leiliana looked fantastic.  I oddly liked Marethari's redesign as well.  I really liked the half-elf boy Feynriel's design.

But Zevran made me make these faces (in order):  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie]  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie]  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]   [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]

I just don't like the cookie cutter design of elves. and It doesn't help when you play multiple pts and you're starting to notice things and try to pick things apart. Like Zevran, he was so much better looking in DA:O (i'm sure it's the nose) and Alistair is the same way

He gets jealous with Zevran.  Anders confronts you about him as well.  Another thing, just triggering Alone (not completing it) is enough to get him to say "I am yours," though I'm sure this is just a flag issue.

The guide has a lot of mistakes in it.  You have to do Alone I would imagine before the final main quest (though I don't know -- I haven't tried starting it towards the end).

Anders confronts you about Zevran? of did you mean Fenris?

Actually, there's one line in the friendmace relationship that makes it sound like they were together (granted, rivalmance doesn't get this line).  Hawke says to him, "No matter what happens, I hope we stay together."  This doesn't sound like a make up line, it sounds like they ARE together and finally working stuff out.  Also, at the end of Alone when Hawke says, "You still have me," doesn't sound like "Let's make up, I've been wanted you all these years too."

I don't think they're intimate.  I don't even know if they would consider themselves together.  But something shifted somewhere to make him feel some sort of possessiveness.  It would be completely weird for someone who dumped you three years prior to get jealous if you try to hook up with someone -- jealous to the point where he put a stop to it -- if nothing was rekindled.  Also, Anders would have to think SOMETHING was going on in order to ask you what you saw in him (though you can tell him there's nothing there).

I actually am leaning towards it being left ambiguous on purpose.  That way you can have a Hawke that has moved on, and there's dialog that supports that, or you can have Hawke and Fenris with something going on, but a big unspoken thing between them, and there's dialog that supports that as well.

yeah...I think he just took a huge step back because he freaked out, and not sure what he's suppose to do. overwhelmed. I do think they have this "kinda there, kinda not there" relationship in the gap, where it's never proper clarified between them, but they know it's there, you know?

The only other male in DA:O who peaked my interest aside from Zevran, was Teagan. And look what DA 2 did to him. Oh, the horror....

Poor wording on my part.  I meant in the Justice quest, Anders will ask you what you see in Fenris.

And it seems like it would be natural that when Fenris comforts Hawke, there's a recognition on both sides that it really isn't over.  Though they don't talk about it.  Still, the 3 years strains my credulity, but, yeh.

"kinda there, kinda not there" is the perfect description of it. Hehe.

I'm sure they had "moments" of clarity but the fact remained that Fenris clearly wasn't ready because he needed to sort out his head and his past. As a result he may have even felt unworthy of her because of his issues, which is what I got from the conversation when they finally talked it out.  (Which is of course, preposterous because he's awesome).

Of course he would comfort Hawke you know? He loves her, cares about her regardless how much of a relationship they got. Though I must say, I think whatever they got is just very...ambiguous. Unresolved feelings yeah? I wouldve been mad at the kinda there kinda not here relationship status. But I do think nothing progressed during the gap, because he left and left it on an awkward note, he said so himself (about leaving, and I dont think he's only referring to leaving the room). I just think he was just super freaked out, didn't know how to handle it all, letting someone getting so close, something he's afraid to lose...etc. Hawke was pretty much taken, it's just that it took 3 years for Fenris to be ready

God...3 years. Ridiculous.

Doesn't this means Fenris's got Hawke(us) wrapped around his lanky elf fingers where Hawke(we) would wait 3 years (technically)?

I wouldve confronted and then move on or something

I have realized that I always end up loving elves, with tattoos/brands in on their face, and has a tragic past.
1. Kivan from Baldur's Gate. My favorite elf ever (and the romance mod for him is my favorite romance in a game. Ever.).
2. Fenris.
3. Zev.

I'm not sure confronting anything would have made a difference other than to say "this is immature and I'm done with it."  Which is a perfectly viable option, one that I'm sure my Hawke thought about.   For my Hawke, I don't think she (or Fenris) really felt that they technically had any claim to each other during this period of time.  So if Hawke had wanted to move on I'm sure she would have felt no guilt for doing so.  After all, Fenris left.

As far as I'm concerned my Hawke simply didn't find anyone that held her interest in that time.  If she had she might have moved on.  She may have even found companionship on occasion (3 years is a long time) but ultimately she knew she was in love with Fenris.  I'm not sure that would have changed even if she'd "ended it" properly.

I'm no elf fangirl, I was never the type the swoon for elves (I don't know why, I guess it's all about the story too. Bad story with good looking elf does not strike up any interest in me). Well, Legolas but that's because Orlando Bloom looked google with elf ears.

And now look at me, replying to the Fenris thread daily and would love to see where his tattoo leads. Kudos Bioware/DG, you got me

Oh, he left, he broke up with Hawke, he says so in a banter with Anders.  But if things really stayed in that holding pattern, him stepping in between Hawke and Zevran is beyond creepy since it's 3 years after the fact.  And Anders asking what Hawke sees in Fenris is also a bit more than weird if things were still the same.

That doesn't mean that I think they're back together and everything is wonderful.  But I think it's progressed a bit, to the point where jealousy and questioning could be warrented, but not to the point where he's ready to talk about what happened. No, I don't think they're having sex before that time either.

I mean, I DO understand his story.  I understand that he ran out because the feelings were too intense.  I understand that a make up didn't happen for three years, and that that happens after the Alone quest.  What I'm saying is that story doesn't make much sense to me if you have them not as any kind of couple during the ensuing three years.  Fenris' reaction to Zevran, Anders' reaction to Fenris and Hawke...  they do not make sense if it's standing that Fenris dumped Hawke and nothing has changed.  What I tell myself, head canon, is that probably when he came in to comfort her, something a bit more fragile started to be rebuilt, and neither of them were talking about it because they didn't want to destroy it, but at the same time, they did let it grow a bit.

Can I say that's actually my favorite part of that battle? I think I've only missed getting it one time-- which was on my rogue!Hawkette. My Mage!Hawkette(s) got it, and it was brilliant, because I could imagine them flying at Meredith and trying to tear her head off, abandoning using magic and just using pure rage.

What? *Goes back under table*

Same here. I've never been much for elves, they just haven't appealed to me. Not even Zevran really caught my interest beyond being a well written character. This is why I was so certain I would not find any appeal in Fenris when I first saw videos of him some time back. But then he enters the scene when you play the game ... and I can do nothing but surrender to the allure of Fenris. XD

But yes, Bioware does do this scaringly well over moste of their titles. They just throw out a hook, they don't even need the bait anymore. They also manage to somehow make the romances for the characters that first catch my intererest so good that I find it almost imposssible to even consider following through any other romance...

Instead I replay teh same character over and over with the same romance. Oh dear, that does make me sound awfully pathetic. XD

I was a rogue in that one, I totally went for her.  Mind you, as an archer, was a tad hilarious... but still the woman was chopped liver after that.  I was enjoying the battle too much so I pretty much left her alone once my most effective talents were spent... and attacked statues.  I was prolonging so Zevran would show up o.O.  I didn't realize she can do this.
I am not surprised she didn't do this during my Anders LI run... he's a mage, he doesn't get up close like that.  But Fenris... yepperz.  It was kind of sweet.
I can't wait to see Fenris kidnapped.  Killed Carver off just for that... oh my.

Hmm. Now you have me pondering things. i can't recall in what order I did the things in act III right now, but I did play through those scenes you mention and I can see your point in that it might not quite make sense in that order. But is it possible to do "Alone" and straighten things out with Fenris, then meet Zevran and do Anders companion quest for act III? Because played that way those responses fits a bit better, don't they?
