I just checked the wikia for elves (Dragon Age elves) and it states that they 'quickened' from being exposed to humans and that they're 'mortal'. It never actually states that they age at the same rate as humans, and I think I recall hearing in Origins a mention that they age slightly slower. I could be wrong, however. It just states that whereas they used to be unaging and immortal, they now grow old and eventually die. Zathrien was such a big deal because he'd lived for 'several centuries', due to the curse he'd put on the werewolves, but for some reason I recall reading something about them still living slightly longer than humans.

the Dalish live slightly longer because they don't have much contact with humans, if at all.  but for non-dalish elves, they supposedly live as long as humans, and thus would age at the same rate.

i won't say they DO age at the same exact rate, but you would guess as much if they live the same amount of time.

Oh, I also don't see why Fenris would be standing next to the fireplace fully dressed in his armor after having sex. He should've at least been shirtless. :-)

I wanted that, too.

The artists looked at me with their sad eyes. "Do you really want us to create an entirely new torso with all those tattoos just for that one scene?"

"That's a stupid question. Of course I do."

"Sigh. Okay, what do you want to cut, then?"

"Oh, bother."

So that's how that conversation went. I guess Fenris dresses really quickly. Maybe he was thinking he would be stabbed? Not an unrealistic expectation.

Anyhow, glad you enjoyed the romance. {smilie}

Not fairrr, even DG wanted topless Fenris

Don't forget to mention how the original plan was Fenris shirtless, all day everyday.

Ha! Probably.

The original plan was actually
to have Fenris shirtless all the time. I would have been okay with that,
even if it did kind of make him look like he just came out of Lord of
the Flies.

Now now, Isabela could be fibbing. There is no evidence to suggest that Danarius slathered Fenris in sweet smelling oils.

Course, there is also no evidence against Hawke doing it.

Well I know my Hawke might.

Did the "I am yours" from Fenris sound odd to anyone else?

I'm not talking about the fact that he says it, but the way he says it always struck me as odd.

For me it's that he says it. I'm not going to lie, the first time I heard it I was a little put off. An ex-slave saying he's yours. I even paused the game and tried to argue with myself. ("Does he really think that he belongs to my Hawke in that kind of way?" and so on..). I'm not even going to pretend that I know how an ex-slave would think and feel but I can imagine that it would be easy to fall into the same thinking they had during they're time as a slave. And Fenris doesn't remember much from his time before and don't know much else, so I was a little put off.

Once again BioWare manage to really engage me emotionally. Well done DA2, well done indeed.

I'm not bother by the "i am yours" ,it's a love thing.
He decided he belongs to you. I'm far more bothered to ask him to kill somebody when hawke could do it.
I mean i like angry blue fenris, but ...i don't know , it just doesn't seems right .

Anyways everytime someone mentions he's a slave he goes berseck , so the hawke/fenris thing is not about you have power over him. It's about giving yourself/loyalty etc freely , something he never had the chance to do.

This. Fenris saying "I am yours" isn't saying "You're my master", its him saying "I volentarily give myself to you, to be with you forever, because I love you." Its a level of devotion that that insane Apostate living next door to your basement doesn't have. ;p He takes orders from Hawke because he respects her. Not because he has to.

This is what I thought. Maybe he finds it oddly empowering being able to 'belong' to someone in a way he never had the option to before. For the first time it's his choice to commit himself to someone else, and I think he probably revels in it.

Don't be bothered by it.  Zevran and Morrigan said it as well (both also written by David Gaider).  In fact, it was Zevran's greeting once he really did feel released from slavery.

It's a way for characters who don't say "I love you," to say, "I love you."  It shows affection and commitment, not ownership.

That's awesome.

And so what I did on my second play, although I had planned it from the beginning. I actually only romanced Anders because I wanted to hear poor Fenris' jealous dialogues. ::bad person::

-mutters- Great. I think I managed to mess up this playthrough somehow. I was aiming for not having Isabela around during the later part of the game, since I prefer Fenris doing the dialouge with the Arishok about the duel. But at some point in act II I had Isabela at high enough friendship to trigger her "Questioning Belifes" quest. Now it seems like its impossible for me to not have her come back - even though I've manage to pull her friendship down beneath the 50*% mark.

So I guess for me to be able to get that lovley scene with Fenris and the Arishok I will just have to see if I have an earlier save and replay most of act II ... again...

Just don't do her Questioning Beliefs quest.. that should work, I think.

Yes
I am think that is what does it. If I recall it right I actually got that quest pretty early in act II, I know I have a save before doing it but it still means replaying most of the act just to not do her quest. But since there is no magical way of just removing the flag of that quest I might as well load up that save and get started again, Fenris epic dialouge awaits me at the end of a very long act II playthrough after all...

You make sense. I think early 20s makes sense for the lyrium bit. I'd placed him about the same range - definitely a bit older, been through a lot of ****. 30ish for me when you first pick him up. I can imagine him feeling like too much of his life has been spent suffering... This is a third of his life, just wasted away on vile, capricious whims of a lunatic blood mage. He finally has the freedom, but a lot of chances for things are already gone.

Re: I am yours: Fenris displays a lot of regressions. When he gets upset, he hunches over. I wouldn't be surprised that he says that out of habit and not knowing better, in addition to not being the type of person who says "I love you." His I Love Yous are in the shape of touches, facial expressions, and the ever squee-worthy talk of a future together. It's a very classically masculine thing - "men don't talk about love, they act."

I was a little distracted by being met by Samson the former templar who has the same VA as Fenris.  I thought "okay honey, shoo and let me get to Gideon Emery's hot character plz."

It is? Good, I thought I was going crazy when Male!Rogue!Hawke went to go rescue Merrill (so he had Fenris in the party). I got confused when Samson spoke and then Fenris said something and then I went, "Wait a minute..."

I believe one of the Dalish in Zathrian's clan tells you that elves live longer then humans, but not by much. (Say the average human lived to 50, I imagine that elf meant that the average elf then lives to 55-60.)

I pity the Grand Poobah-- he had so many things he wanted that he couldn't get. Like shoes for the elves. Couldn't get that either.

I guess only the Poobah and Hawke (and maybe a couple art deisgners) know what shirtless Fenris looks like. *Sigh*

No shoes for elf is a cool visual thing.
And the fact , that city elf and dalish elf share that is a nice touch.Like they managed to keep a bit of their culture.( and i really dislike feet irl , specially male feet , so i look at fenris feet a bit ,and they look kinda ok^^)

I really enjoy the new elf , some are really beautiful , the keeper fenris merrhil..some are really weird and ugly (the poor slave girl during bitter pill could use some eyebrown and that make up is awful)
The only thing i don't like is woman elf underwear , elfe are really thin and it just look bad.

The Dalish live slightly longer than city elves and humans because they're not living in a filthy, squalid city, they have access to fresh foods and vegetables, and they have Keepers who know healing magics.

The no shoes thing still bugs the bejeezus out of me.  I also hate feet, especially men feet.  Shoes exist for a reason, y'all!

I'm really sad that DG lost that particular battle wtih the artists.
