Love this thread! I'm as addicted to reading here as I am playing through the game, lol.
So...just a little thought about how my FHawke coped after Fenris walked out that night....
(I see my Hawke as a party type, she has fun and plays in the downtime, likes to hang out with her companions after a day of kicking butt)

Yeah i still sided with the mages ,and kind of forgive the whole craziness among kirkwall magi because there's something wrong with the veil here that drive mages nuts.
Plus Meredith is not really a saint.
So you can find out reason for the whole situation to be so bad.
Now , when you talk with fenris about the actual Tevinter Imperium , you get an insight on a country where not only mages are free but rule ...and it's not a solution either.
Except like he says if you're not bothered by "owning a few slaves and the blood rituals"...
So all of this made my character believe mages can't rule and use their powers as they see fit.
But the circle , as it is , is too harsh .Mages should be checked but free to have famillies etc..
They're not dangerous animals .
Right... If we should put a "purpose" to each characters, then Fenris's can be something along the line of an introduction of Trevinter. the power struggle between the Circle and the Templars has been a major conflict in DA:O that was downplayed by the Blight, and through our DA:O companions we learned about how other countries and cultures functions and their view on everything that goes on in Thedas...well from their point of view of course.
And through Fenris, like you said, we see a country where the mages are free but it's no solution; in fact, it's probably not great because there's this lost of balance. Anders and Fenris's views are like two sides of a coin...Anders, who has been supressed by the Templars, believes in mages' freedom and liberty; whereas Fenris, who sees the abuse of the said freedom, believes in order must be placed.
Through Fenris's eyes, we also see the corruption in Trevinter. I think that's going to be important in DA3, because so far we've been given places where mages AREN'T running around freely but it is not so in Trevinter, and we haven't see what it's really like.

Someone probably already got it, but DUNE!!!!Dr. Doctor wrote...
Question, do you suppose Fenris will take to using his old name? With his memories coming back in flashes, perhaps he'll start remembering things more clearly as time goes on.
Sebastian: So, Leto?
Varric: I don't think I'd go there if I were you Choir-boy.
Sebastian: Why not? It's a good name, I had an ancestor named Leto.
Fenris: That is not my name. I am Fenris.
Sebastian: But that's your slave name, wouldn't you rather start anew as a free man?
Fenris: Who's to say I haven't? I have a home, friends, and... (rubs hand over armband) other things that make me a free man. Leto was a slave, I am not a slave.
+10 imaginary Doctor dollars if you catch what Sebastian's alluding to.

I don't know if you can see it as a reaction. They're Andrastians, too, they just interpret the Chant differently. Fenris tells you the magisters see their leadership as a service for the good of all.silentstephi wrote...
I think Fenris' counterbalance to Anders' fanaticism is actually just another way to drive this point home:
The system is broken. It can't be fixed. The world needs a reset.
The situation in Tevinter is the reaction to what the Chantry is doing. They get away with it because it's just so far away. Add the Qun into the whole mix and you have the rumblings and brewings of a pretty world altering storyline... for DA3.
I also disagree that the world needs a "reset," certainly not a violent one. But it does set up lots of conflict for DA3.

This is quite close to what I could imagine happening for my Hawke and Fenris. You just expressed it perfectly.Though (in my head) I think they would completely restrain themselvs from any physical contact for the time being. No kissing no huging, just hanging around with friends... and then maybe a few really angsty evenings they would spend alone in Hawkes library...working on those reading classes

Oh, I also don't see why Fenris would be standing next to the fireplace fully dressed in his armor after having sex. He should've at least been shirtless. :-)
I wanted that, too.
The artists looked at me with their sad eyes. "Do you really want us to create an entirely new torso with all those tattoos just for that one scene?"
"That's a stupid question. Of course I do."
"Sigh. Okay, what do you want to cut, then?"
"Oh, bother."
So that's how that conversation went. I guess Fenris dresses really quickly. Maybe he was thinking he would be stabbed? Not an unrealistic expectation.
Anyhow, glad you enjoyed the romance. {smilie}
Not fairrr, even DG wanted topless Fenris
Lousy artists....shirtless Fen would have been worth losing something else....

I think like others have said, he's a counterbalance to Anders and the pov that mages are the oppressed and just need their freedom and all will be right with the world. There's no way for us to go to Tevinter and see the flip side, so they brought a (broody, sexy) piece of it to us in Kirkwall. Hurrah for tourism. <3Eudaemonium wrote...
Hello, Fenris thread! I finished my initial DA2 run the other day - did a Fenris rivalmance with my mage Fem!Hawke. It was great. I thought he was an awesome character, but I just wondere dif the people in this thread could shed some light on something that's been bugging me: What was Fenris' point?
By that I mean, in the narrative. The other characters have fairly clear narrative roles: Varric is the narrator, Aveline is closely connected to the heads of state through the guard, Isabela is tied to the Qunari, Anders... yeah, I think we all know. But I just can't work out what Fenris' point in the plot was. He was an awesome character and I loved him, but I can't shake the feeling that if I hadn't recruited him I'd have missed absolutely nothing of the plot. Isabela, the other 'optional' character in the default game, had a pretty major role in Act 2's climax, but I can't work out why Fenris was in the game. I'm hoping the people here who probably have more detailed thoughts on him will be able to shed some light, or at least some informed opinions. Did I just miss some really crucial scene?

Thanks! I was torn between no contact at all or a little something-something and even though none at all does seem right, a kiss now and then over three years isn't asking too much from Hawkes point of view...it would be stopping at kissing that would be hard, lol. And a little contact fits more with how the game has the other NPC's thinking of the two as a couple throughout that time as well...(at least in my pt's...even Hawkes mom makes a comment about them)

Anders sent to a letter to one of the resolutionists and said, ''Look dude, apparently there's this shirtless elf guy and they had to sacrifice animating me, would you mind awfully blowing up the chantry for me.... Oh but if you could do it so that chantry sort of implodes with a sad little popping noise, rather than a massive 'splosion, that would be smashing. Thanks a bunch, your mate Anders....
PS - I blame Cullen for all this''
