That alone makes it really hard for me to side with him and the mages. Really both sides are the same, people just seem to have more trouble with killing nameless innocent mages than nameless innocent templars. I think it may be the stormtrooper thing, you see someone in a uniform and it's easier to dehumanize them.

That right there is one of the reasons I so totally enjoyed this game.  No one side was right.  It didn't matter who you sided with.

As to people having an easier time killing templars, I think some of this is carry over from DAO and folks playing mages.  You couldn't really play a real templar (I mean you could learn the talent tree, but you aren't /actually/ a templar imho) in DAO but you could play a mage.  It's sort of the same in DA2.

People related to what they knew and understood.

....I hate you Anders.

I let him run away. I effing took Sebastian's bluff and let Anders run. And what does he do? Purposely provokes a fight from me. What did I do wrong? D: He was full friendship and I let him run away. Why does he want to die now?

I don't know, I've sided with the Templars twice. The actions of the mages in the game disgust me so thoroughly that I'm having a hard time being nice to them while playing my anti-Circle apostate. The Templars may have bad apples and may be going about things the wrong way, but at least they're trying to do good. And as much as I hate Meredith, part of the reason she becomes what she does is the relic amplifying her hatred and prejudice. Orsino doesn't have that excuse.

This...I tried to warn you  >.>;  I think he always fights you if you side with the Templars.  Justice just couldn't do anything else, unlike Fenris, who will still help you fight the mages (even tho he doesn't trust them)

God. Just, god damn I hate Anders so much right now. I lost Sebastian for him. I did it for him and he throws it back in my face.

Doesn't matter. He'll always turn on you if you side with the templars. It's not like you didn't get fair warning. He right out says there is no one he won't kill for his cause. That includes Hawke.

He just has to be a martyr. It's sad that I can't just hand him over to Cullen or something. Frankly I think tranquilizing him (if it's even possible) would've been a far more fitting result of his actions than that lame stab in the back.

I do wish we could make him tranquil. For one he doesn't deserve to be a martyr, but aside from that I just really want to know what would happen. I wonder if Justice would end up being redeemed and end up his normal self without Anders' human feelings to corrupt him anymore. Or maybe it would destroy Justice since he's a creature of the Fade, effectively eradicating him at the expense of Anders' soul. Or maybe since he could bring the emotions out in Karl, it would simply temper Anders' emotions and make their bond less chaotic. Or maybe it wouldn't work at all. Who knows.

Whew, catching up on this thread is an effort!  Don't stop though, I love fast-moving threads!

Every new discussion or revisit of an old discussion of Fenris just makes me love the character more.  It makes me want to do some writing myself.  I want to delve into his character and see how different kinds of Hawkes would interact with him.  To write or to watch moar YouTube...I think I shall do the latter for inspiration.  That ~voice~...audio erotica.  Aural sex.  Then the wonderful facial expressions, the eyebrow arch, the puppy eyes...just...:wub::wub:

I haven't fangirled like this in a while.  I like!:D

Okay I am playing a mage and recruiting Fen. Is there anyway at all to avoid that rivalry hit in the convo after you've cleared out Danarius' mansion?

You'll automatically get +5 rivalry.  The best thing to NOT rival combo yourself is to not use the flirt option.  Just pick diplomacy.
However, I should mention that on my friendmance playthroughs, I got that initial + 15 and didn't sweat it.  I more than made up for it by being anti-slaver and anti-mage.  :P

Fenris did this to me during the end where I was heading through the Gallows, there's a corner that's barricaded off and somehow he got past the barricade and was stuck there. He was my only warrior in the group, too. Luckily he got just far enough off-screen when I went into one of the rooms that he popped back to me. :P

I don't believe so, unfortunately. But you minimize it by choosing 'Survival' or 'Find Out' when he asks what you're after.

Dang it.

Ah well I was planning on dragging him everywhere anyways.

Eh. I'll just be honest if I'm gonna get a hit.

Snarky Hawke wants to be rich.

One bit of rivalry here and there doesn't make a significant amount of difference. I was rivalling Fenris and played pro-mage, anti-slaver, and the former cancelled out the occasional bits of friendship I got from the latter.

Question... what happens when you turn down Fenris after he marches up to you and says he's been thinking about you? Just curious.

My diplomatic Hawke rivalmanced him, I just tried it and she says, "I don't remember inviting you." He pauses, then furrows his brows and says, "As you wish." and leaves.

The things I do for curiosity. :(

EDIT: And the middle heartbreak icon that says "now is not a good time" got this:

Hawke: You have the worst timing.
Fenris: [sad face] That is nothing new, I fear. I will leave you be.

THAT WAS EVEN WORSE.

FINALLY

I get ending credit music. No idea why the last two plays did not get that music. So rewarding...but makes me want to play more.

Props to you for taking a hit for the team.  I just don't have the guts to do the heartbreak option on him.  :crying:

Okay...Fenris returns (finally...*swoons*) and I'm just wondering...did anyone ELSE notice all of his tiger references? I've noticed two in act 1 so far. >.> Where are all these tigers he keeps talking about? (Okay, granted, both times the word is used in a more figurative way rather than literal, but still).

First time: Act 1-Asking why Fenris didn't run if he couldn't fight the slavers (before recruiting him), he says that one must eventually 'turn and face the tiger'.
Second time: Act 1-Merrill's mission after Hawke comments on the demon (the aggressive response) he says something like 'that's like staring at a tiger and thinking it wont bite you'.

These aren't direct quotes, but I found it entertaining, regardless.

That's right, I'm sharing the pain with all of you.

After Hawke says, "I don't remember inviting you." (Bottom choice, "Leave.")
