I use the console on pc to trigger it ,it doesn't seem to work if i don't.
Open console, type :Runscript zz_dog_debug and i don't exactly remember what options i picked but it worked

I adore Kaidan, he is what brought me to the SN in the first place. I love Alistair too, but there is something VERY compelling about Zev - he isn't the obvious choice but is passionate and true once wooed. I will one day romance Zevran. Well, some must be act dependent. I never saw Anders and his "act like a real pet" in the estate, only at Gamlen's place. But then I could have been unlucky too.

So far from what other people are posting it looks like you can get the banters regardless of what act you are at, so it doesn't look like they are act dependent.

Approval dependent? And since people in this thread are never getting the elusive Fenris/dog banter, are we building up his rivalry/friendship too fast so the flag doesn't get set maybe? Seems unlikely since I recall getting Anders banter in act 1 right off the bat after recruiting him. Not enough room for meter progression :/

# of quests/sidequests dependent? A possibility...

total randomness? I'm leaning towards that considering I do completionist playthroughs and so far some companions triggered for me 1/3 or 2/3 times.

P.S. That's a touching picture, Nefily I really like what you did with your Hawke's eyes

I bet it's a bug. with my 3 playthroughs, I've only manage to trigger Aveline's (twice, different ones) and Varric's...but none from any other companions. It's like that Varric's friendly concern about who you're romancing, with Fenris it's not triggering for people mostly on consoles

So far, for me, it's all been act-dependant. I have been getting exactly the same encounters at exactly the same time in the acts. I think part of it is just going back to Gamlen's hovel/Hawke estate aLOT inbetween quests. I wonder if any of it depends on your rivalry/friendship? Maybe not all of them, but some at least?

There are act dependant actually , fenris one is supposed tio trigger during act 2.

One downside to DA2 being a game as opposed to a book is that there's very little space for non-game related scenes (ignoring the codex here). For instance, I wondered what having Fenris living at Hawke's estate would have been like:

Sandal: (grabbing Fenris' arm) Enchantment?

Fenris: (trying to pull away) No.

Bodan: Now, now my boy, Serah Fenris has things to do.

Sandal: He's shiny. (grabs a vial from his workbench and paints a rune onto Fenris' forearm) You like the shiny?

Fenris: (noticing that the dull ache from his markings is gone) Yes, thank you. (walks out of the estate)

Bodan: Well I'll be, how'd you come up with that one?

Sandal: I found some salamanders.

I'm new to the DA forums, as you can tell from my avi pic I usually stick to ME, but Fenris is sooo....

So I've been inspired to post. I started the Fenris romance purely because it was different from my last DA choice, Alistair. I didn't think I would love it as much as I do now. My first playthrough was pro-mage so naturally my Lady Hawke and Fenris had a rivalry romance. I'm currently on my second playthrough and after being burned by so many mages *cough*Orsino*cough*Anders*cough* I've decided I'd hate mages this time around, which helps when pursuing a friendship romance. I'm still in act 2, but so far I like friendship romance much more. It's nice to have Fenris accept my gifts gratefully and without scorn.

YES, I love when he squeezes his eyes shut after "the look". To me it's like he gets the warm and fuzzies and then suddenly rememebers the fact that he messed it all up and gets mad at himself.

I gotta say, by far my favorite feature of Fenris' is his eyebrows. In BW games the eyebrows can make or break the expressions and Fenris just uses his so well. I love the fact that when he furrows them the rest of his face reacts realistically with little lines and crinkles.

Grrr, this! I obsessively visited the mansion between every mission just to see this dialogue and never got it!! Someone youtube, please. <3

EDIT: Welcome, catgirl789! Yeah, the gifts are one thing I definitely prefer the friendmance with. Darn it Fenris, why couldn't you enjoy the irony when I gave you the sword? <_<

on a random note: I don't suppose anyone has a translation of what Fenris says at the begining of "alone"? When you enter the mansion, he and Aveline have their talk, and she walks out; Fenris curses in Tevinter.

There 's also a tevinter curse moment (and he spits ...) if you say you want orana as a slave .

I'm finally going through my first PT as a mage and I've just paused the game where you get to talk with Fenris after Bait and Switch and... I've tried all damn combinations of answers and the less I can get is 10 rivalry points!

Do you know if it's possible to get friendship points from him at this point if you're a mage?

I got the Fenris and Merrill chat again where she's being all nice and comparing tattoos and he answers 'Mine were carved into my flesh in a ritual I remember only for the agony it caused me' or something like that. My Hawke just wanted to smack him and tell him to stop scaring the little children. I love him, but man he's harsh.

I think one of my favorite moments of the rivalry romance (actually I don't know if it's in both, but it's one of my favorites anyway) is when in act three he paces in front of his fireplace and curses in Tevinter "You will be the death of me!" The way he says it just seems so exasperated, but in a fond sort of way if you can understand what I'm trying to get across.  Oh Fenris, how will I ever play the game without romancing you when you have moments like that?

Yeah, but he seems to soften up with a Friendship!Hawke. Of course that might just be around Hawke...
