This tribute has been linked over and over again, but I just can't get over how awesome it is :). If I had any ability with video editing... *sighs* I'd kill for a well made track with rival mage composed in the similar style of that video :).

It is amazing, I love the way the voice over was done.
And yet, I still find my self in love with the end song the most.
Everyone does love you Fen :D

Can that song be added to the list?
Just because. Posted Image
...it makes me remember the hipwiggle gif. Posted Image and the "I run from room to room choreographing routines" banter. *now imagining Fenris dancing to that song*

Find me the artist or song name at least and I can add it, or most likley add it at least...

Gah getting annoyed with my doodling... His nose is so dang hard to get right -.-
I think I need more coffee XD

LOL  I'm a Drellicker and Fenris Fan.  Although I'd bet people who read my ME crackfics thought I was a Garrus Fangirl...>.>;  I like Garrus, too...but...hallucinagenic skin...  Also, Thane's voice does for me what Fenris's voice does for me.  Audio porn, baby.

Speaking of which, once I kick this cold I wont sound like I have Drell-voice anymore...>.>;

I have never managed to friendmance him on a mage.  It does feel right, the arguing over mage issues.

I love both romances though.  He is so sweet in a friendmance.  Just his reactions to the gifts when a friend make me squee.

I get the feeling he's more challenged in a rivalmance and more settled in a friendmance.  Both are good.

With (almost) 3 playthroughs under my belt I can kind of see how a mage can actually do a friendship path, but it is still dicey... mage who begins as an idealist and then gradually comes to realize he/she views the world through rose-tinted glasses and, quoting Fenris "Freedom is [just]a noble ideal"

There is the fact that even if you were an apostate, you were trained according to the circle teachings since that's where your father got his training.

There is the fact that even as you help mages nearly every single one makes you regret it.

IF you do all that remains early you can (don't have to! but CAN) have ample reason to change your worldview early enough to start scoring friendship points with Fenris on remaining mage quests.

So it'd kind of be like you came to see his viewpoint instead of sticking to your initial ones.

Warrior and rogue for me are a lot easier to sympathize less with the mages plight, still.

I agree though, both friendship and rivalry paths have their moments :)

I can't rivalmance him. I can't do it. It hurts. I'd rather just be his friend. ;p

You don't have to be mean! Though, in my personal opinion rivalry path makes most sense if you are a mage yourself, and an idealist one at that...
That way, you can try to be nice, agree with him on some points like slavery, but you are going to butt heads on the mages freedom issue and the rivalry meter will just rise pretty much on its own, given you always drag him around :P.

It's a matter of personal taste though, I've done both paths and i just prefer the rivalry. Just a bit more 'oomph' in it for me. That and the fact he fights you decisions every step of the way, gets angry and still falls in love and stays with you, makes it that much more meaningful.

Heidenreich,

I too was hesitant about the rivalry romance, but in my last playthrough as a mage, I found I really enjoyed it.  This Hawke was really idealistic and totally comitted to challenging him  as far as his feelings on mages and I found it added a dynamic that my friendship mage didn't have.  I don't know.  But I agree with Rheia as it is totally a personal preference.  I wasn't so sure I liked it at first, and I hated giving him the second gift ( I totally cringed when he got angry at that one), but the scene that comes after "Alone" gave me more of a sense that he had come to realization about himself that needed to change. I knew I had made the right decision then and I didn't feel that same admission was the case in the friend romance.
Again, it's all about what you like best!  I certainly see the appeal of both! :D

My warriors/rogues tend to first agree with mages and their ideals. Then as Bethany dies (I usually kill her anyway) they grow more and more weary of Mages, since the only sane one they knew is dead. And then they snap after what happen to Leandra and grow really resentful towards mages. :P

My mage char also hates mages because she hates demons/blood magic and hates her own abilities.

No wonder I manage to score friendship romances with Fenris with all chars.

Only playthrough I got left really is a nutty mage who'll romance Anders and be as into mage freedom as he is.

(And we need more Drellickers)

Im a sucker for his puppy eyes and those sweet head tilts in friendmance *drooool*
And since I've seen the video on YT of a rivalmane night, where he says "this should never have happened" (like it didn't hurt enough in friendmance version)

In a fit of bordem last night I went back a few saves and replayed "Alone" and decided to let Varenia live.

Long story short, Fenris competed against other slaves  to not only receive his markings, but also to win the boon of his family's freedom (think gladiator). Varenia states that freedom wasn't the solution that Fenris thought it would be.

This brings up a very interesting bit of characterization. On one hand we have Merrill who wants to restore the eluvian in hopes that it will help to bring back a bit of lost elven culture. She's willing to risk her very life by using blood magic in order to help her ungrateful clan.

On the other side we have Fenris, who voluntarily had lyrium branded into his skin and his memories erased just so that his family could be freed from Danarius' service. From Varenia's line "You have no idea the things that I've had to do since mother died" freedom wasn't as kind to the family as Fenris had hoped. Going with this Fenris represents what could happen to Merrill if she went through with restoring the eluvian. Where what is perceived as "helping" ends up harming both parties.

I find it interesting how two characters who hold opposing philosophies and ideals can have so much in common. Excellent work writing team.

I'm curious what Fenris would do if you pulled up a comment the Warden can make to Zevran. When you're talking to Zev about what he could/would do if he wasn't an assassin(I think). Something like "handsome elf? I can think of a few things..."
And Fenris asks Hawke, at several points, about what to do when a person stops running.

Fenris: what do you do when you stop running?
Hawke: Handsome elf like yourself? I can think of a few things... Posted Image

Rivalry: gets pissed off and rages at Hawke?
Friendship: Smirks and makes a somewhat flirty comment?

I haven't played ME (curse you Bioware, for not porting ME1 to the PS3, should have bought a 360...*is a console gamer*) or ME 2 (but I will once I have some money, I spent my current budget on DA2...soooo worth it).  So idk if I'm a closet Thane fan or not.

Definitely not a closet Zev fan, though.  *is totally unashamed of her love for the elven assassin*

I'm a pervy elf fancier, what can I say??  I'm hip, right? B)

I'm doing a friend romance with my rogue, and she's also a diplomatic type so it's definitely got a sweeter feel to it.  When he says "if I'd have known Anso would find me a woman so capable...", my sarcastic Hawke made a crack about him asking for a loan.  Diplomat Hawke says "maybe I'm the one who should be thanking Anso."  D'awww.   Though I find myself reacting more sensitively to his anti-mage stuff on Bethany's behalf than when my PC was a mage herself.

Hehe, you know, that intial snarky line about 'asking for a loan' and one at the end where during the forgiveness scene ('Oh, I don't know, it may be fun to hold it over you a while longer...") are what make it very hard for me NOT to play a dominatly snarky Hawke :).

Playing my Pro-Templar playthrough (usually I do with what feels right, and don't worry about achievements), and so I just walked up to Keran and said you could be possessed (I didn't have Anders or Merrill with me). I almost feel bad for telling the Templars to take away his status...almost because +5 friendship from Fenris

I actually took Anders with me when I did this (current pro-templar).  I'm trying to max out his rivalry.  Gives a +15 Rivalry.  It also made me cringe inside, but my rogue really believes mages and potential abominations are too dangerous to be unsupervised.  Fenris really likes this!:)

Doesn't (sarcastic!Hawke, at least) say something akin to that once?  When Fen mentiones Danarius having him pour wine for the guests to intimidate them, and she goes (that's a flirt line if i remember correctly):

"I can't imagine why they would be put off."

Me either Hawke.  me either.

Heh, I'm a pervy elf fancier since the Silmarillion.  Full of hot, smoking broody dark-haired elves... what's not to love.

I didn't like Thane at all, I'm afraid.  I thought he was overdone.  Garrus all the way for me.  I burned through ME1 just to get a crack at the birdman.  And much as I love Alistair, Zevran's cameo is one of the highlights of the game.  He's such a fantastic character.

Thank you lots for helping me find it  ^_^  If anyone else is into metal like me theres a couple songs that always remind me of Fenris when I listen to them, Beast Am I (especially this one if you check the lyrics) and Live for the Kill by Amon Amarth. Its a band whos songs are based on nordic mythology so i thought it tied in well. I dunno kinda out there but I like em =)

Yay, thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :) Glad to see fellow drellickers here too. Not giving up on that fandom, but Fenris is sure floating my boat right now... I'm not surprised, because when you stop to think about it, there are similarities that lead me to believe that I certainly have a 'type', if you know what I mean. ;)

I fall like crazy for men with:
- neck-snapping habits
- tight leggins
- gruffy voice (audio porn indeed)
- angsty backstory
- wordly attitude
- very proper manner of speaking
- backbone to stand behind their views
- exceptional physical strength

...men such and Thane and Fenris. <3

Man this song has been in my head for weeks since playing Dragon age 2 and romancing Fenris and it is all that comes to mind each time i play through his romances.
