I haven't played ME (curse you Bioware, for not porting ME1 to the PS3, should have bought a 360...*is a console gamer*) or ME 2 (but I will once I have some money, I spent my current budget on DA2...soooo worth it).  So idk if I'm a closet Thane fan or not.

Definitely not a closet Zev fan, though.  *is totally unashamed of her love for the elven assassin*

I'm a pervy elf fancier, what can I say??  I'm hip, right? B)

*grin* I shout my love for the Antivan practically from rooftops.  I actually am surprised how much I like Fenris.  I thought no one could ever come close to Zev!

In a fit of bordem last night I went back a few saves and replayed "Alone" and decided to let Varenia live.

Long story short, Fenris competed against other slaves  to not only receive his markings, but also to win the boon of his family's freedom (think gladiator). Varenia states that freedom wasn't the solution that Fenris thought it would be.

This brings up a very interesting bit of characterization. On one hand we have Merrill who wants to restore the eluvian in hopes that it will help to bring back a bit of lost elven culture. She's willing to risk her very life by using blood magic in order to help her ungrateful clan.

On the other side we have Fenris, who voluntarily had lyrium branded into his skin and his memories erased just so that his family could be freed from Danarius' service. From Varenia's line "You have no idea the things that I've had to do since mother died" freedom wasn't as kind to the family as Fenris had hoped. Going with this Fenris represents what could happen to Merrill if she went through with restoring the eluvian. Where what is perceived as "helping" ends up harming both parties.

I find it interesting how two characters who hold opposing philosophies and ideals can have so much in common. Excellent work writing team.

Indeed. They were doing all they could/could think of to attempt to make things better, but their actions come with consequences they did not expect. they clentched onto those goals and that's all they could see, believing it's was for the better. this is why I sympathise with Varania, because it seems freedom for city elves in Trevinter is not the best "solution" there is for their problems...and especially that line about how looking back now she thinks Fenris' got the better end of the bargain.

More like 'great long discussion regarding the birth hair color of Fenris'.  I liked the idea of him with dark hair (even if it's not black).  Seems more realistic to me.  Maybe we should ask DG about it.

Awww... would have wanted to add it to the play list, but sadly I could not find this song on Spotify at this time -.-
Great song though...

I think its interesting that the majority of songs ww in this thread connect with Hawke and Fenris is rock and Metal. xD

Rock and metal seem to, more often, get the proper emotion across.
HawkexFenris is not really something you can get with country(no offense to anyone who likes country music, but... don't think it's at all fitting)

XD Do it!

But honestly, him being born with thaat light hair doesn't make sense to me and what I do know of genetics and heridity ... Unless its a mutation, but it just sounds cheesy that way.
Having it be because of the ritual makes more sense then,,, Its pure logic... though magic...

You know, I questioned myself about that too, and was surprised just how much I ended up liking Fenris.  I mean, I figured I'd like him...but damn, DG.  You know how to cook 'em. :police: (the animators and Mr. Emery did a fantastic job, as well, credit where it's due)

Hm. Accept another contribution to the playlist? I love a good metal and rock song just as the next person on this thread, but I thought something mellower could do the mix a bit of good :P

Vienna Teng - Cannonball  Link

Fits as a post 'breakup' I think.

Lyrics:

there’s still a little bit of your taste in my mouth

there’s still a little bit of you laced with my doubt

it’s still a little hard to say what's going on

there’s still a little bit of your ghost your witness

there’s still a little piece of your face i haven't kissed

you step a little closer each day

still i can't see what's going on

stones taught me to fly

love taught me to lie

life taught me to die

so it's not hard to fall

when you float like a cannonball

there’s still a little bit of your song in my ear

there’s still a little bit of your words i long to hear

you step a little closer to me

so close that i can't see what's going on

stones taught me to fly

love taught me to lie

life taught me to die

so it's not hard to fall

when you float like a cannon

stones taught me to fly

love taught me to cry

so come on courage

teach me to be shy

'cause it's not hard to fall

and i don't want to scare her

it's not hard to fall

and i don't wanna lose

it's not hard to grow

when you know that you just don't know

zee - I'm with you on the "lyrium turns hair white" -stance, I have no idea where the idea came from but I thought exactly the same a couple of days back. Maybe it's the dark eyebrows? Love your sketch, can't wait to see it finished!

Working on some fanarts myself here http://img691.images...xmarianwip.jpg/ - I know Fen's likeness is still slightly warped, will fix that, but I figured I'd give you guys a vote on whether I should dress him up for that pic or not?

Nice to know my account here can be helpful in this way :innocent:

Just returned from Melbourne Grand Prix (nop, not going to complain about the weather and certain yellow pillar next to the motorway). Did two Fenris Fanarts (and one Hawke one). Now all I need is finding some time to scan it.

New Prompt topic is now open for suggestion, any ideas please pm me.

It seems kinda stupid when you point it out, doesn't it? Why am I even debating on the matter myself? Are my natural fangirl instincts failing? :o

Yay, thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :) Glad to see fellow drellickers here too. Not giving up on that fandom, but Fenris is sure floating my boat right now... I'm not surprised, because when you stop to think about it, there are similarities that lead me to believe that I certainly have a 'type', if you know what I mean. ;)

I fall like crazy for men with:
- neck-snapping habits
- tight leggins
- gruffy voice (audio porn indeed)
- angsty backstory
- wordly attitude
- very proper manner of speaking
- backbone to stand behind their views
- exceptional physical strength

...men such and Thane and Fenris. <3

I actuallly couldn't find that song by Vienna Teng, so put teh Damien Ric version in the playlist xD

The eyebrows are part of it, but his complexion doesn't quite support him naturaly have that sort of colouring. And I have played the Witcher not to long ago and recalled that the main character, Geralt, got his hair turned white because of the alchemies and such that the witchers has to go through to become what they are..
Might not be the lyrium itself hat made it with though. Might be the combination of the lyrium and the stress put upon the body as well as a touch of magic to make it the colour it is...

Nice sketch so far NeitiCora, I don't dare try to draw whole bodies - they are my weakness sinc eI get hung up on the body language saying EXACTLY what I want and being so very precisly proportinate - witch it never turns out to be.. -sighes- So I draw faces XD
Dunno if I will ever finish it or really do more then that. I'm sketching now just because I feel creative and I am happy when I am creative...
Think I am exploring facial expressions on fenris a bit as well...

Damien Rice version works wonderfully too :) Better maybe if you look at the lyric story from Fenris point of view. I just like Vienna Teng's voice. It's a bit more melancholic :).

Oh mnomaha! *huggleglomp!* So glad to see you, how have you been?

Myself, I started on a new job early this year and it's kept me traveling and working 60-hour-weeks. Needless to say, that sort of stuff pretty much kills a) free time B) creativity c) interest in anything but bare necessities such as feeding and caring for a poor, lonely husband. B) Things are supposed to calm a little now, so I'm trying to get the balance back with some non-work-related activities, such as shameless fangirling.

When do we get to read Fenris-related fics from you?

I only got to reading the lyrics for the song Cannonball just now, and I'm listening to it now, and it's just... GAH. <3! Please don't get my angsty creativity juices flowing at this time of the night with such amazing music, I should just stop stalking this thread and go to bed already!

Gah.  I am working on a paper and listening to itunes and an OLD Natalie Merchant song pops up and I thought, hmmm....

It's a little melodramatic (well for me anyways,) in that most of the music I listen to is kind of twee, but I LOVE this song and thought it apt.  It's old though so I don't know if you'll find it or think it works.  Still, I had to suggest it.

Natalie Merchant: My Skin

Well, back to work! ^^

Much <3 to ya'll!
