I have actually seen her as the younger of the two. Maybe not by all to much. But maybe a few years younger. Others might have felt diffrntly however. Then again I place Fenris at closing on 30 already when you first meet him in the game - so that might be why I feel she seems younger, that and the fact that the actions Fenris took before he underwent the ritual sounded like something an older brother would do...

Hmm. I'm thinking younger, because I got a "protective big brother" vibe from how he sacrificed himself for his family's freedom. Of course that might be because he's the only man in the family (or at least I'm assuming he is). Now that I think about it how old is Fenris in relation to Hawke?

I would say no. If they even have the same father. Wouldn't suprise if there never really were a father in the picture.

-nods- I made a guess at Hawke being 23 or 24 at the begining of the game and Fenris maybe 27 or 28. It works in my head at least - but I do know a lot of people would prefer to think of Fenris being 25 or younger at that point...

I'm thinking/feeling the same. He reminds me a bit of Varric(the younger sibling staying close to the mother/family, trying to take care of them).
I wonder if Varania tried talking Fenris out of competing. And when did their mother die?

I am planning to go with younger.  His actions almost seem like that of an older brother.

This is when I'm conflicted. I think it can go both ways actually, the action I mean. the rest is up to us to guess hahahahhaa

My older brother treats me like dirt to.. I bet she is younger though just going by the face.

I think she might have been younger than him.  His desire to free his mother and sister kinda gives me the 'man caring/protecting his family' vibe.  >.>  I sort of think that while she was old enough to remember him competing for the markings, she might not have known why he wanted to free them.  I've my own theories on that...

I have trouble telling whether Varania or Fenris is the older one :S I actually feel like it could be either. I do think that Fenris is older than Hawke though, by how much, who knows ... maybe 5 years? It's really hard to pin point Fenris's age =_=

The problem with them elves. He could be anywhere from 2 to 15 years older.  

So... if he only escaped from Danarius 3 years prior to him meeting Hawke, how long was he in servitude with the markings and no memories of life before?

Maybe it's because I play a mage, it just seemed to me like his trying to protect her wasn't any different than Carver trying to protect Hawke. Brotherly protectiveness doesn't have to have anything to do with age.

On a side note, I'm going through all of the awesome music recs on earlier pages, and I'm not sure if anyone suggested it yet, but I think OneRepublic - All This Time is a perfect song for the post-Alone romance scene.

So I just started my third playthrough (warrior, already played a f!rogue/Fenris friendmance, and a f!mage Fenris rivalmance)... fully intended on romancing Anders, even downloaded a face mod for him because I really couldn't deal with how Anders looked. I actually sat a good while the other night thinking of why he so desperatly wanted them freed fro slavery. I can only conclude that he or those around hi must have suffered something horribly due to being a slave. A young man doesn't throw away his life - even if he is a slave - in the manner Fenris seems to have done to get his mother and sister free...
So I think his hatred for slavers is deeper rooted then just how he was treated during the time he can remember. It also strikes me as him being one of Danarius favourites - meaning he was probably in the end better treated then many other slaves. And even so he sufferd as much as he did ... what does that say about how the slaves of tevinter really exists?

Fenris was a lot easier to be friends with than rivals.  I had to let a stupid slaver go and then make a deal with another one just to ****** him off!  And I was playing aggressive Hawke, it felt so wrong.  After that I stopped fussing over points here and there and just let things be... he got to 100% rivalry easy.
I haven't done a completely pro-mage playthrough with Fenris as a friend, but I don't think it will be very hard.  Last time I was kind of middle-road.

Or close to, anyway?  I  I mean, yea, after all the time skips, sure, but I always thought him to be a couple years older then Hawke (who I imagine was 22~ at the start, considering her brother and sister are/were 18).  Mostly because he just doesn't look 30~ to me, mid twenties, sure.
On the other hand, he doesn't really /act/ like someone in their mid twenties, then again, niether does Hawke...most of the time XD

Also, I have a question, when did he /get/ his markings, age wise?  I swear that ingame they said six, but that makes no sense, so I think I must have misheard him saying sixteen.

Hmm, any idea where this was said??  I don't recall it ever being mentioned specifically.

As far as I know it isn't mentioned in the game at all.
I know it has been speculated here on the forum a bit and that people guessed anywhere between 16 and 20-something when he got the markings.
My personal guess is that he was probably in the 18-20 range when he got them, and being in the high 20's in the begining of the game makes sense then to me. He had enough time to have been with Danarius for several years as well as the three years he had been running.
