On the other hand, he doesn't really /act/ like someone in their mid twenties, then again, niether does Hawke...most of the time XD

Also, I have a question, when did he /get/ his markings, age wise?  I swear that ingame they said six, but that makes no sense, so I think I must have misheard him saying sixteen.

Mid to late teens seems like when he'd get them though.  I mean, that competition thing seems like someone that only someone very young and very desperate would enter.

As far as I know it isn't mentioned in the game at all.
I know it has been speculated here on the forum a bit and that people guessed anywhere between 16 and 20-something when he got the markings.
My personal guess is that he was probably in the 18-20 range when he got them, and being in the high 20's in the begining of the game makes sense then to me. He had enough time to have been with Danarius for several years as well as the three years he had been running.

We do know for sure Carver/Bethany were 18 when one of them died, Leandra said so herself. She said it during a conversation after Birthright was given. It was something along the line of "18 years of feeding and loving, and gone just like that" about whoever that died. the codex for Carver does state Hawke is older

I think she might have been younger than him.  His desire to free his mother and sister kinda gives me the 'man caring/protecting his family' vibe.  >.>  I sort of think that while she was old enough to remember him competing for the markings, she might not have known why he wanted to free them.  I've my own theories on that...

I actually sat a good while the other night thinking of why he so desperatly wanted them freed fro slavery. I can only conclude that he or those around hi must have suffered something horribly due to being a slave. A young man doesn't throw away his life - even if he is a slave - in the manner Fenris seems to have done to get his mother and sister free...
So I think his hatred for slavers is deeper rooted then just how he was treated during the time he can remember. It also strikes me as him being one of Danarius favourites - meaning he was probably in the end better treated then many other slaves. And even so he sufferd as much as he did ... what does that say about how the slaves of tevinter really exists?

Varania seemed as though she's been through alot, completely defenseless unlike Fenris. God knows what she had to do to survive out on the street and made sure her brother's sacrifice was not in vain (as in become a slave again)

Yes, I do remember that part. That and Someone mentioning Leandra running away with her apostate husband-to-be 25 years prior to getting back (could also have been after the first year in kirkwall, can't really remember). That gives us a time frame for Hawkes age. But it really says nothing about how old Fenris is or how old he was when he got the markings.

They were doing all they could/could think of to attempt to make things better, but their actions come with consequences they did not expect. they clentched onto those goals and that's all they could see, believing it's was for the better. this is why I sympathise with Varania, because it seems freedom for city elves in Trevinter is not the best "solution" there is for their problems...and especially that line about how looking back now she thinks Fenris' got the better end of the bargain.

When she said that in my game, it really didn't seem like she was even looking at him, she was staring at Hawke, who'd already, you know, killed the **** out of Denarius for trying to take Fenris. Or almost did, she let Fenris have the killing blow

I agree here as well, though I do want to point out that we can't be sure how much truth Varenia speaks if she lives. She could be lying just to make her brother more miserable or as a revenge of some sort, since she clearly thinks everything bad in her life is his fault. To me it doesn't seem like Fenris remembers it himself - even whenshe says it was his choice. Its more that he get confused and uncertain since he cannot remember these events himself.

But yes life as a slave in tevinter can hardly have been easy - neither was aparently being a servant.

Something occurred to me earlier(when whoever posted the link to that marvelous Fenris tribute)... Anders snaps at Fenris in "alone", calling him a hypocrit, and saying that Fenris was just jealous(because Varania is a mage). How could Fenris be jealous if he only JUST remembered anything about his sister? He would've had no idea before that she was a mage. Goddamnit Anders. Stop being an ass.

This discussion has come up at least two or three times in this thread, last time was just a few pages ago.
Sum of it is that we do not really know why he has white hair. But there are a few diffrent theories - most people however seem to agree that he was not born with that hair colour.

Oh damn the Fenris addiction is taking me again! I made it three days without playing, waiting for the next patch to come out and fix everything, but here I go~ Wish me luck, this will be my THIRD run at roguery (stealth!rogue first, then archery, now duelist, I think).

Also if any of you lovely artists draw traditional work and have a scanner recommendation, it would be very much appreciated. I've been sketching quite a bit and want to share. :<

Naturally black and having turned white because of the tattoos is my theory. I think it's the popular theory actually.

I think she was partly lashing out, because Fenris probably does have it quite a bit better then her. After all, he has friends that are powerful enough to kill Denarius, a /Magister/, and it's pretty obvious he isn't a slave anymore.  I mean, she had to have had some affection for her brother, and yet she's willing to sell him out so that she can have a better life.  Even though he's already sold himself out once for her and his mother TT;
But also, if you think about it, she's probably right about how hard freedom would be.  I mean, they'd spent their lives as slaves, I doubt they really knew how to live as anything else.  Also, a slave, while possibly mistreated, will be taken care of, fed, sheltered, or else they'd be useless.  And Fenris, well he was a Magister's slave, for all that Denarius was a terrible person, and made him do horrible things, he probably had it pretty good in comparison to people who weren't marked with lyrium.

Which is why I feel sorry for her a great deal actually.  We don't really know how long it's been since she's seen him and I'm certain she probably doesn't know about the kind of life he's had to lead.  I imagine him showing up as a friend to the Champion of Kirkwall no less, and being able to send her the coin to get her to come to see him would make it hard for to look at him and think about his sacrifice. 

I'm not excusing her betrayal of him.  I think I look on it more as inevitable as I don't want to imagine what happened to her and her mother.  I know people were saying that they wanted a Fenris Tevinter DLC and the prospect of that absolutely horrified me.  Do. Not. Want. (Not that I think it will happen).  I'm just of the opinion that Tevinter is a terribly brutal place and I'm a bit like Merrill in that I just want to pick flowers and pet puppies.

On a happier note:  I was listening to Ella Fitzgerald's version of Let's Face the Music and Dance and I certainly got the urge to google old Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger's clips.  I sooo want someone to do a mod like the Thriller one but with Fenris, Hawke and Company dancing Fred Astaire style.  I wouldn't be able to pla it but someone could load it up to youtube and it would be awesome.  Fenris and Varric's banter is practically begging for it.

The only person Fenris is a complete jackass to is Merrill, and that's because she uses bloodmagic, and then tries to be his friend.

-sighes- I am procrastinating again. I should be looking at references of Fenris armour and trying to sketch that out in the picture. But instead I try to do everything BUT that... That armour scares me, I'm having a hard time telling what material some parts of it is, and why it is shaped as it is....

Otherwise I am starting to feel pretty happy with the sketch of Fenris Kissing Nadira Hawke, its far from perfect but it no longer jumps out at me as something being very wrong with it...

I know.  I'm a bit scared about potential dlc's.  Poor Hawke hasn't exactly had it easy.  No more tragedy, please.  I can't take it.  I'll be depressed for days like the first time I played DA:O and my Warden died.
