The fact he's a little like Valen makes me happyDavid Gaider wrote...

I'm also sort of interested what characters or people influenced his overall personality when Gaider penned him. You learn more about a character based on the things that created them.
Well, he's a little like Valen in some respects. I wanted to have a more stoic character, and never really got the opportunity to explore that fully with Valen.
Beyond that there are a couple of characters that I was inspired by, but I'd hesitate to mention them simply because people read way too much into that. Some folks who hear "inspired by" read it as "is an exact copy of" and that's nothing of the sort. The parts of a character that I find interesting and inspiring might seem entirely incidental to someone else, and regardless of my inspiration the character I wrote may have ended up somewhere else anyhow (as with Zevran and his "Spike of Buffy" inspiration).

I never thought of that. The possibility of language barriers that Hawke could encounter outside of Ferelden. It would make the enemies more frightening that way, and the world all that more disconnecting.
But I'm sure she could pick up a language relatively quickly, since it takes over a period of ten years.
Depends on it. Some languages are easier to pick up due to your native/first language (I.E. German is fairly easy to pick up on for native English speakers because English is also a Germanic-based language. Italian is easier for native Spanish speakers to pick up on because it's also a romantic/Latin-based language.)

I remember the conversation. I have no idea who he is though, aside from a wiki article. A demon blood thing with history and stuff...? stuff..? And mysterious? Not to downplay the character itself, simply lack of knowledge and resources. I may have to play the game when I can afford it. But he seems pretty popular, so I'm interested.

@Lucy were you the one who predicted that? Or was it someone else?
No one predicted it. We were just saying it'd be nice to have a Valen-like char again.
Valen is this badazz tiefling:

I hope some of you guys can get your paws on HotU soon. It blows SoU and the OC out of the water by far.
p.s The famous Deekin is in it too. Deekin is the biggest pile of amazing-ness in a game ever.

I asked my little brother (who has played HotU) about Valen and he gave me a typical teenage male response: "He's emo." Then he said he never took Valen anywhere because Deekin was the bestest companion ever and he didn't need anyone else.

Don't you think that's taking it too far? I mean, imagine being that person that you're deriding so heavily. They probably feel pretty terrible. Let's not move ourselves to moralism.
Are we not all fangirls in the Gaider's eyes? Do we not bleed? Do we not laugh? Do we not ask, "Can we tap that?"

Good for obvious reasons but bad because I won't find out until a week later (woes of not having internet where I'm going) so I won't be able to talk/type about it with the Fen-Girls
