For starters he makes an awesome party member: Either as a Tank or as a damage dealer.
He is actualy quite easy to make like or hate you despite what people think and he is one of the few who actually has decent bonus' on both! (Rival foe +10% crit for a DD fenris, friendship for a +10% magic res Tank fenris, which my current fenris tank now has 64% magic res
His additions to dialog are also awesome, when I first started using him I found myself loving him more and more for all the extra choices. Mainly death related >
So yeah... Fenris++

I don't see why either. I think it's just that the majority of posters are pro-mage (almost blindly so), and so anyone who either has something bad to say about mages or something good to say about the Chantry gets hate. Sebastian, Carver and Fenris, specifically.Jmaru7 wrote...

The thing that gets me is that anyone who actually listens to Fenris should be able to understand his logic. I thought I'd be completely pro-mage when I got this game, but he makes a good argument for some kind of regulation. It's not 'one bad experience' that made him 'hate all mages', as I've seen a few people generalize. He lived in a world of free mages, he's seen the corruption that thrives in such a world. He has valid reasons for his opinions and it's silly to expect him to change them because one mage (or one person with a mage sibling) is different than the scores of mages he's met and seen do horrible things.
There's also a misconception that he hates all mages unconditionally, which isn't true. Or the idea that because Hawke and Fenris disagree about mages that means he hates Hawke, which isn't true either.
In general people really need to stop closing themselves off from the rivalry paths or immediately label characters bad just because they don't fawn over Hawke. Conflict is good. It's real. A character doesn't have to exist to stroke the PC's ego.

I agree with this. Hell, I even managed to get him to 100% friendship on my first playthrough, despite being lenient to mages at times. Because, well ... my Hawke was really nice to him otherwise. Despite getting a few rivalry points now and then.
And you're also right that he doesn't hate all mages. He actually remarks to Anders in a banter that Bethany was strong, in regards to likelihood of getting corrupted. Not to mention that he can fight alongside you with the mages (he even comments on how odd that is) ... he really isn't close-minded, despite his strong opinions about mages.

You know, now I just want a picture of them cuddling in bed. I felt jipped during the love scene when Hawke gets up and looks beside her and sees Fenris pacing infront of the fireplace with all his armor on. xD
I really miss the free-roam conversations one could open in Origins. Just the little "Anything you need my Dear?"s from Alistair was awesome. Sure, you end up not having anything else to say, but I felt like the relationship with the companions wasn't as open as it was in the first game. If that makes any sense...
I think I'll be heading to bed now too. I have class in the morning. :x Nice to meet you all!
...I'll be back tomorrow.
Anytime kisses were awesome
can you just imagine Anders get as upset/grossed out as Morrigan when Alistair and PC were making out infront of her, only with Fenris and Hawke?
i also missed those free roam conversations from the first game, and it would be great if we could have fenris for a cuddle or a kiss like with LI in me2!also imagine
Anders in Hawk estate:could i speak to Hawk there is an important task at hand..
Bodahn:hmmmmm she is busy right now....
Anders: But i must speak her now!!
Bodahn:Fenris is here and ....they had to...they are talking:whistle:
Anders:Him again??
Sandal: Enchantment???

OMG THANK YOU!
Fenris provides such an interesting counterpoint to the entire story, I think. It gets me all snarky when people say they hate Fenris because he's mean to mages. He's seen what a mage-run society is like first hand. He's seen the corruption and the weak jusitifcation for using blood magic with his own two eyes. Maybe, oh, I don't know, he knows what he's talking about and he's just a little bit jusitifed in his distrust of mages and their 'woe is me' attitude. Of course he's rude to Anders and outright hostile to Merill. For pete's sake, one's an Abomination and they other is actively practicing blood magic!
Does he have a huge blind spot when it comes to magic? Yes. But he's not 'All mages suck and should die, rarg!'. He even says to Hawke in the very beginning that 'You are not Denarius. What you will do remains to be seen'. So he's not a rage-filled killing machine with a hard-on for killing mages. He should be distrustful of mages (and heck, most people as he's been abused and mistreated his whole life). He should be wary of magic. And he most certainly should not be swayed instantly by Hawke's dashing charm and good looks right off the bat.
So yeah. I kind of love Fenris, mostly for making me see things from an angle I hadn't considered before. (And his "dashing charm" and good looks.)

Anyone up for starting a "Fenris Swooning Club" group on Facebook to appreciate our badass broody elf? I haven't started any FB groups yet so I'm not quite sure how it works. But I would join such a group instantly xD
