Just something that has been bugging me for a while, feel free to ignore it...
I could be wrong, but I got the impression that the romances in DA2 ended up this messy because of content being cut from the game and the writers hurriedly trying to patch together what was left.
It's just too many small things that make little sense, like some crucial pieces of information were missing. Why would Fenris feel entitled to threaten Zevran if he's not with Hawke? Why would Anders question their relationship when there's no real relationship, years later? At what point did Hawke give Fenris his/her favor, in what context? If nothing happened during those three years their relationship was "unresolved" and they never spoke about it, why is the option of saying "I hope we'll stay together" there, and why does he react so casually to it?
I'm sure we could stretch our imagination and come up with perfectly acceptable explanations for all those things if we tried really hard but... should we really have to? Some degree of ambiguity in storytelling is always good, but I get the feeling this was more than just that. Oh well. I guess we'll never know.
I have nothing to add, but I agree with this completely. Fenris' reaction to Zevran is so weird, as is Anders asking about the relationship if they're not together. I mean, you can metagame and get them back together first, but you don't need to (and in fact, my first playthrough I did not and just figured they were back together until I read his codex).
Yeah it felt weird having to check the codex to try and find out if my Hawke was in a relationship or not. Specially when the romances in DA:O progressed so naturally. I refuse to believe that this was intentional. I have too much faith in Mr. Gaider's talent for that
