Oh, a thought! (Yes, random inspiration while I'm at work is indeed this surprising and rare.)
Don't mages have longer life spans? *peers around for confirmation on this* Mage!Hawke will probably hang on to her youthfulness for a good long while. Rogue!Hawke and warrior!Hawke, however ...
I thought that was Dalish elves... Although that could explain why Briseis Hawke looks so young and squishy, while Kaalyss Hawke, even thought really blonde and bright and snarky, easily pulls off the mid-twenties min. look.
(In reality, it's because Briseis only has eyeshadow-- otherwise, she has no make-up, and I think it makes her look younger).
I agree that less is more when it comes to the makeup. I tried a heavier application, wanting my first Hawke to look less generic, but disliked the results. I believe it does result in a younger appearance, which suits my snarky ladies just fine.
I believe that the Dalish were starting to live longer due to their isolation. It was humans that quickened their blood, so keeping to their own is likely reversing the process, albeit slowly. I'm unsure as to where I got the notion that mages live longer no matter what race they may be. I suspect it's something I overheard/read in Origins. I'll have to double check. It just makes sense to me that someone with the power of magic flowing through them would be able to draw on that and age slower as a result.
To bolded part: 'Tis, but there is no other way for me to describe it. It doesn't help that she's also pretty diplomatic, and some of the diplomatic options make Hawke come off as a doormat (or "squishy" personality wise).
Amazingly, I used to actually do my characters "Morrigan style" when I made my first DA2 character-- Black hair, gold eyes, heavy red eyeshadow, really dark lips, and a bit of blush. But Hawke looked so... old for her voice, so I went to Black Emporium and started messing around with her appearance. Now she almost looks too young (Removing the rest of the make-up but the eyeshadow made her look cleaner and much younger. I intended to get rid of the eyeshadow as well, but ended making it super dark blue and changing the eyes to the palest gray I could get-- her eyes look rather large now and give her a chance to compete with the elves in a puppy-eye contest, and also gives the younger effect I wanted), but it's too pretty for me to have the heart to change it. And she really does look adorable with Fenris, so it makes it even harder to resist.
