The Arishok duel was awful. I already went through it twice, once as a mage and once as a 2H warrior... third time around's gonna be as a DH rogue, hope it's easier that way.

I think, of my characters, the duelist/assassin rogue duel was easiest so far. I haven't played a mage, but my husband's mage owned him pretty handily (go go frost spells...)

On my first playthrough, I didn't get the duel option at all - we had a huge cluster**** in the throne room instead, with the Arishok and a few of his best friends.

Fenris' dialogue with Isabella not there is definitely worth seeing. He does argue the Qun very well, including snaring the Arishok about the "worthy of honor" bit.

@EJoslin - if we get tools and you do mods for DA2, I will be forced to go PC. Worth the price of admission, though I may mock you for costing me the funds for the download and all DLC up to that time. :D It's a sacrifice, but I'll muddle through. (*squee*)

ETA: Eek, ToP. Darn my Xbox-playing right now. Will have to go PC anyway methinks. In the meantime, have some concept art from the DA2 site, because I really happen to like this as well. :)

@Ejo, what is ridiculous is Orsino, resorting to blood magic amongst his own allies. Bloody stupid. I agree that the game misses some good mage examples, like Wynne -well, she's technically an abomination) or, I'd never thought I'd say this, Morrigan.

Yah, what I usually tell people who dislike his attitude towards mages (those who are willing to listen, anyway) that Kirkwall mages aren't exactly helpful in persuading anyone. Heck, my main Hawke is an idealist mage who believes that mages should be free, and even she was dismayed by the end of the game.

I actually really like that he doesn't change his views. He makes a perfect counter-point to my Hawke at least. Makes it even sweeter that he sticks by her and her 'mistakes' when she defends the mages after all that happens :P

Edit: Sue! And  that's pretty funny! I never choose blood mage spec either, patheticly for the exact reason that it'd prove Fenris right about resorting to black arts if need is too great. I can think of one instance she'd succomb though... if it'd save the lives of those she loves. No dilemma like that in game, though, so all of my mages are blood mage spec free lol.

I've read in a few different threads how people wish Fenris' attitude towards mages would soften over the years, especially if Hawke is a mage. But then I think about what you actually see with mages in Kirkwell. Yes, mage!Hawke is awesome, and Fenris will acknowledge that. But just about every mage you encounter seems to turn to blood magic and turn into a demon. Even your mage companions do nothing to contradict what he believes about mages.

If anything, the years he spends in Kirkwell would do nothing but reinforce that most mages are extremely dangerous.

I never thought I'd think this, but the Ferelden circle actually had the right of it. Most knight commanders are probably not like Gregoir, however.

Totally agree with you.  Actually for me being a mage, I was sick to my stomach that all the Kirkwall mage were using blood, summoring demons and stuff.  And the point was finally drilled in when mama die.  I really started to resent being a mage myself.  With the powers I had, it did me no good to help the ones I loved.  So I can actually see what Fenris was saying. :(

Any mage I play will have this attitude, especially when it seems every Kirkwall mage you meet is a blood mage, an abomination, or just plain warped because they dabbled in the bad stuff...I was honestly *glad* when I saved the Ferelden Circle. In Kirkwall? Not so much.

Part of my head canon is Kirkwell has an extreme influence on mages because of the atrocities that have been committed there over the centuries (primarily by Tevinter mages, interestingly. It always seems to come back to them, doesn't it?).

I suspect that Hawke is somewhat immune to those influences because s/he was not raised there and hasn't been subjected to the problems associated with the very thin Veil in Kirkwell. Anders never gives into blood magic and temptation despite his own precarious mental condition, because he is already an abomination and thus can't be further influenced, and Merrill has made a pact with demons before you even meet her, and is arguably already under demonic influence. So they are both special cases, and given that Fenris is a product of a society that holds both abominations and blood mages in especial horror, it is no wonder neither of them can ever convince him otherwise through their behavior over the course of the game. Merrill with her obsession with a cursed object, and Anders for personal reasons as well.

Fenrial's case is especially interesting too in light of this theory: He is brought up in Kirkwell and so has constant nightmares, and if you release him to the Dalish, he goes to Sundermount, where the Veil is also exceptionally thin. Poor kid.

Fenris never comments on why Hawke doesn't succumb to the mage danger except to say that s/he is stronger than most mages. I am not at all sure that is the entire reason, though, although it may be part of it. I would htink mages as a whole have a pretty high WIllpower score. I just think Kirkwell's special circumstances mitigate against willpower and mental strength.

It... is not.
Mages have it the easiest time. Esp force mages, esp force mages who get the standing still bug.
But really, you're going to have to spend about 20 mins back stabbing him then running away 8D;
Quite a big sense of accomplishment in the end though, I mean, the Arishok is this huge skilled warrior guy. And my Fem!Hawke killed him with two knives :wizard:

I know this is rather random, but I just thought of something. You know in DA: O, your companions can give you gifts, if you romance them, I mean. Alistair gives you a rose and Zev gives you an earring (best conversation ever, for me x3)
I don't know what the girls give you, since I never romanced them, but not the point.

If Fenris gave Hawke a gift, what do you think it'd be?
I'm thinking some sort of bracelet, that's enchanted to do something awesome.

editL: Here's a Fenris, with a sparkling Seb, because Seb deserves to sparkle.

Well..it depends on the region don't you think? In Kirkwall, the mages are really NOT helping their own cause, not at all. I know it's a run around, like "because of the templars, mages turn to blood magic, but because they use blood magic, they supress even harder". It's like if Meredith were to take a nice little trip up to Tevinter, it'll reaffirm her crazy beliefs that mages need to be caged up like beasts, you know?

But yeah, Ferelden had it mostly balanced, but that's Gregoir's not lyrium weapon and Irving are not turning himself into an abomination

My first pT was as a male warrior, and i wanted to support the mages, but by the end of the game I was [ yes its true] so emotionally Drained and worn out from the evil stupid mages in Kirkwall, i just hated them all. At the end I really wanted to kill both sides.. I ended up choosing mages ONLY becuz i believed the game wanted us to.. but then Orsino happened and i was like... WTH? no wonder the whole place sucked. I kinda felt empathy for MEredith at that point.
I didnt know the tricks to keep sibling alive, and Hawke mum died, but at that point her conversation was all selfish and guilt driven to my character I didnt really care she was gone... LOL i know im brutal.
Second pt I sided with temps, and I did get a better feeling for the characters [ Hawke Family} and even the companions that i kinda missed first play.
MB it is somethign in the water.... In Kirkwall that makes them so nuts, and they had roving packs of blood mages attacking nite travelers... I MEAN come on, sounds like the circle wasnt a prison, or much else really. mb they had TO Much free time on their hands after all lol... im rambling sorry all..

You do!  The body movements are great.  But Hawke's leg bending slightly and going between Fenris' is just an amazing detail.  The other detail I like is when she first slams him into the wall, she gets on her tip toes while kissing then lowers herself to knees slightly bent.

Nothing like a makeout session with lots of body movement!

The animator truly did a good job.  I am impressed.

Honestly, though, since Fenris has traveled a lot, I wonder what his experiences are in other places.  Kirkwell is the worst case scenario, but even DAO had demons, abominations, and blood mages.  Of course, I blame part of that on Irving.

I want Seb in the party more, sorry Andy. xD

I do believe the save I have before that kiss is a F!Hawke...I was thinking I had one from my M!Hawke Rival-mance, but no, I just recalled the playthrough before that one I set up a secondary save to before the kiss. So, I will have to wait till like 8 or 9 pm tonight to see it...

Amen to that, sister. xD That's why I've only done Friendship with him on one playthrough and Rivalry on the rest, lmao!

I do enjoy that Sebastian and Fenris seem to become good friends as well, their party banter is awesome.
