Okay, so I was in the battle cries thread and it made me want to hear all the Fenris-related KO cries, so I went through various battles and wrote them all down minus Bethany.

When Fenris is knocked out:

Anders : They took out Fenris!
Aveline : The marked one has fallen!
Carver : Your pet elf has fallen! (Cute, Carver.)
Isabela : Oh, he's not going to be happy when he wakes up!
Merrill : Uh! Could someone pick up Fenris, please?
Varric : The tame elf is down! ("Tame"?)

What he says when someone else is knocked out:

Anders : The mage is down.
Aveline : Aveline has fallen??
Carver : Your brother has fallen.
Isabela : Ahh, Isabela... (>_>)
Merrill : Surely we all saw that coming.
Varric : Now the dwarf falls.

I find it weird that the two people he obviously hates most are the only two that use his name. He seemed in complete disbelief that anybody took out Aveline. I don't know which is worse, his response to Merrill getting knocked out, or Varric who I assumed to be at least a little friendly with him calling him 'the tame elf'. WTH, Varric?

Also, not Fenris related, but... Carver > Varric: "The dwarf has dropped a few more feet."

... ILU Carver.

And ya... Varrick's one is odd. I never got it before. How is he speaking it? Sarcastic at all?

Merrill's was adorable. Makes me want to see what she says about everyone else.

Fenris' was funny, but yeesh. He really has absolutely no faith in Merrill's competence. At least he's honest about it, I guess.

@Rheia: He sounds about as serious as Varric ever does. He always has a twinge of sarcasm even in his 'neutral' tone, so sometimes I find it hard to read him.

I don't know what it is about the 'tame elf' thing that bugs me. It just sounds kind of dehumanizing and impersonal, whereas Carver's similar 'pet' line read to me like he was just ribbing Hawke for being buddies with Fenris (or in the case of that particular save, romancing him) rather than anything directed towards Fenris himself.

Probably also that it's the last word applicable to the ex-slave heart ripping fugitive, aside from the other reasons you provided . I also thought Varrick was at least on friendly terms with him, heck the drawf gets along with everyone.

I don't know. I always got the feeling that Fenris was the party member Varric was LEAST friendly with (excluding Carver, perhaps?).

Anyway, contributing some Fenris/Fem!Hawke art. Needs a bit of a cleanup, but I am tired.

Varric razzes Fenris, even in death. "Tame elf" is the complete opposite of what Fenris actually is. Fen is the OPPOSITE of tame. ;p

Pretty positive all of Varric's "so-in-so is down"'s are smarmy and scarcastic ;p

Nah, between all their card games and Varric's attempts to get Fenris out of that shabby hole he lives in, it's pretty clear Varric warms up to the elf at least somewhat... O.o

Yeah, I'm going to go with "tame" as being sarcastic.

I'm almost to where I am ready to add tattoos.
Thoughts? Ideas? His torso is a bit long and his hand looks detached to me. And I just realized he's missing an eye. That's easily fixed though.

I just reloaded an old save and got it. If you guys want to hear what he has to say, take him along to the Hanged Man part of the quest and pick the sarcastic option. He'll then join in

I just figured out why it bugs me. Because it reminds me of Anders spitefully calling Fenris a beast when you reject him, and then he says he hopes you can 'tame' him. UghIhatethatlinesomuch.

Heh, those lines are funny. I think Varric is a bit afraid of Fenris and considers him a loose cannon, so I imagine "tame elf" is a reference to him being just shy of feral. Oghren was always on Zevran's case, too. But of course they're buddies- they play cards etc. Of course, there's no one Varric won't play cards with apparently, including the dog.

I did get that line -- completely appropriate.  It was after "A bitter pill."  I'm not sure if timing has anything to do with whether it triggers or not.

So I am going through all of the songs I have loaded on my phone and came across a song (once again revealing my age* sigh*) born to be my baby by bon jovi. Ancient I know, but the lyrics just made me think of the Hawke/Fenris relationship.

another one that i found, which happens to be a horribly obvious pop song like the other, is thank god i found you by mariah carey.  before you laugh your head off listen to the lyrics....i think it fits
