At least with Fenris, he might be broody and angry, he tells you like it is. He's right all along too. Sigh.

This is why it bugs me when people say Fenris is hypocritical. Fenris is the most brutally honest person in the bunch. It's one of the traits I most admire about him.

right? I don't see how he's a hypocrite. He's what he is because what he had seen and experienced. He firmly believe what he believes in, and he tells it to you whether you like it or not. He straight up tells Anders he's an abomination, which he practically is. He did the same to Merrill about her obsession with the mirror. Sure, he has a "special" way to approach people but can you blame him to be on the defense? I highly doubt a guy on the run is gonna be the nicest person on earth

so....in order to make him interesting, and have him sleep with Hawke like an normal dude...you have to rivalmance him.

that's...no fun, but i'll take it. pfft @ chastise marriage or whatever he called it

I didn't think it was so bad rivaling him. One interesting thing about Seb is he doesn't react like most rivals. I don't know if that's a result of time constraints or a conscious decision. He's pretty much your buddy no matter what, the only difference is you can let him make his own decision with the friendship path (that is, staying in the Chantry) or push him towards Starkhaven with the rivalry path.

Kinda defeat the purpose, don't you think?

kk, wrote this real fast so that Tankgirly had a prompt filled for this week.

Weekly prompt:  Read

------

Books littered the mansion, small reminders of the shackles that still remained, reminders of a past he had yet to find true freedom from. He bent down and retrieved one of the time-weathered books from the ground, a fine threading of cobwebs lining its spine.  Nimble fingers brushed the webbing away and flipped open the book.  The pages felt brittle, too fragile beneath his fingertips, the text a mish-mash of confusing symbols he knew he should understand and yet, he could not.

He considered for a moment tossing the book upon the fire.  More kindling for the flame.  Nothing more.  Nothing less.  But he found himself unable to part with this memento of a time gone by and the painful memories that it represented.

He was a man of little memories and those few he did have, he clung to desperately.  They made him who he was and without them, he was not sure who he would become.

Hawke had offered to teach him to read.  Fenris had been rather incensed at the time by her offer.  He knew it was done out of kindness, no malice present within blue eyes as they looked into his green.  That had not stopped him from lashing out at her, though.  His reaction had been immediate and without thought.

But as he looked down at the tattered leather cover of the book he held, he began to wonder if perhaps he had been too quick in his decision and if it was time to rid himself of these particular chains that still bound him.  Within the cloud of new memory, he might find release from those of old.

Thank you, Aris and Tasmen.
So you don't like Bethany? Pity.
Though I admit I prefer Carver.

I just feel like Carver is a more developed character.  Bethany comes off as too flat to me.  But then again, I have to admit I have never really been a big fan of virginal female characters.  Carver is a bit of a douche and I love that about him.

Carver is a massive tool, and with a male Hawke, I think it actually works quite well. I hated Carver at first, but as I went on, I felt like their rivalry was spot on. I made Carver a templar just to twist the knife, and I found that to be one of the few really satisfying parts of the ending.

Well, the experiment may not have gone off like we wanted to, and I was a ghost there for a while, but now I'm alive and breathing. It's very nice. :D

I haven't made Carver a templar yet, but I will the next time I play a mage.  I have made him a Warden and I liked that.  Though that probably had to do with me imagining him and Nate being busy in the Deep Roads after Nate went all 'batman'.

Happily, no. I always wanted to be a raven, a fox, or a dolphin, and I was quite displeased when I was turning into a butterfly.

Ooh, it's another one by smailika, isn't it? I thought the style looked familiar. I turned her other piece of Fenris art into a launcher (here). I think I'll do it with this picture too.

Right. He doesn't bother with pretense, either he likes you or he doesn't, but he'll say what's on his mind regardless. Maybe that's why when he lies to Hadriana it's so dramatic, because it's not in his normal character.

Heck, even though he uses Hawke at the beginning he admits to it the moment you meet him.

Anders personally turned me off from the start because I was in love with his VA from Awakening. So, started out on the wrong foot.

The romance itself is interesting and passionate and tragic, which are all fine by me, but two things killed it for me - when he all but begs/guilt trips Hawke into letting him move in, and when he lies about the cure and again begs/guilt trips Hawke into helping him even though he lied about the cure. There's just no trust to be found imo. When the endgame came around, all I could think was, "He was using Hawke this whole time." And he WANTS you to kill him - which means he still is using Hawke even then. Any affection or love in the relationship looked like hollow lies then. It just gives me this unhealthy, twisted, empty feeling.

I don't mind Anders outside a romance, though. It's just not a romance for me.

It's passionate, indeed, but it's also poisonous.

Have you tried making Anders tell you why he was up to with the "cure" thing? I tried, and god it's more guilt trip. He pretty much make this "ugh" look and questioned you instead, about how if your "promises" of helping the mages are all for show. Basically, he's saying if you help him, you help the mages; and you if don't, you're liar. If you help him anyway, Hawke will say "fine but i'm going to remember how you blackmailed me into it".

I wanted to punch him.

My mage Hawke was livid that Anders pulled the "You don't really care about the plight of mages" card on him. Made my decision about what to do with him in the end really easy.

true true. and he apologized for it didn't he?

Hadriana was stupid to believe what he said. Pfft, if the guy just told you you're the second person he would love to kill, the chances of him letting you go is kinda dim. So technically, she was lying to herself as well LOL

I got a bad taste in my mouth when I had Hawke killed him, so I reload and let him go. I think it's because I didn't want him to die, not by Hawke's hands at least. Actually, it'd be great if he suffered a little, but of course, no option for that....

The line that always gets me is "You can't care about me and despise what I stand for!"
When did I say I despise anything?! Posted Image All I did was ask what you plan to do. jerk... Posted Image

That whole convo is one of my favorites. Fenris and Aveline are totes BFFs. It's a shame I never take them anywhere together since they're both warriors and Aveline has a habit of talking over him. :<
