In oldy times you could hire a clerk to write a letter for you.  But I like the idea that he actually did learn, even if he was too proud to ask Hawke to teach him.  He'd ask Varric I bet.  And that is maybe even more Image IPB than Hawke teaching him.

I had the most adorable image of Hawke ordering Fenris to write him/her a letter(to practice writing and see how far he's come with their "lessons"). And it would arrive all childishly written, sloppy awkward letters and lines sloping oddly across the page...
And there would've been a fine mountain of crumpled up parchment beside Fenris' desk.
He would probably have been very frustrated throughout the wole thing...

Edit: top-of-page weird corrupted!Fen. Because I can.

I saw on Dragon Age Wiki where Fenris says the line "I'll kill anyone who tries to use one of us against you" during best served cold, and I've been trying desperately to get him to say it but after four play through's still nothing...has anyone heard him say that and do you know how to trigger it?

Well, I know one sure fire way is to take Fenris along as the only member of your party during this dialogue. xD I wouldn't suggest doing that unless you've got cheats turned on though, lmao. Not that I did it myself just to hear him say the line.

...okay, I did! *flails* >_>

Which dialogue is this exactly? The one on the Wounded Coast or the Secret meeting place one?

/youtube link would also work
/can't get it triggered for some reason

Wicked Grace

The Hanged Man

Varric: (shuffling a deck of cards)  All right then. The game is Wicked Grace, you know the rules.

Isabela: I assume everyone brought their bets. (lays down an ornate dagger) I wager Heartbreaker, one and a half feet of the finest Antivan steel went into this little beauty. Your turn Hawke.

Hawke: (Places an ancient-looking Mage's staff on the table) This, is the Staff of Parthalan. It has been in my family for several generations. It was used by one of my ancestors who fought alongside King Calenhad. Ante up Fenris.

Fenris: (places a bottle of wine on the table) Agrisio Pavanii 7:30.

Isabela; While drinks are always welcome, I was expecting something a bit more...flashy.

Fenris: This is the best I can do on short notice. I would have prefered Danarius' severed head on a pike but beggars can't be choosers.

Fish

Fenris: Fish. Fish everywhere. Why would anyone hide a priceless gem in a warehouse full of rotting fish?

Isabela: For that exact reason, no one would ever think to look for anything out of the ordinary here, and the smell of rotting fish keeps out the riff-raff.

Fenris: You hid the tome in a fish warehouse didn't you?

Isabela: You know when someone admits that they are wrong, they're fogiven for their wrongdoings. (notices that Fenris is smirking) Ah, the man has a sense of humor after all.

Fenris: I did learn from the master.

Isabela: Funny, and sweet you are just asking for....

Hawke: Yes!

Isabela: You found the gem?

Hawke: (holds a up a hand covered in fish) No, I found a silver!

Fenris: (facepalm)

*giggles madly*

So...to combine what everyone said...it was a slow and gradual thing. Alot happened during the gap, therefore it may have strengthen the relationship, which leads to the love scene. Of course he freaked out after, hastily break it off but regret it later. He was concerned about being weak, doesn't think he deserved it, and it was a lot of emotion he never felt before and it confused him.

Yes?

Yes, I agree Image IPB!!

I am on a shelf imposed DA fast at the moment untill the patch comes out - and am sooo missing the Fenris-love, think I may have to break and start a new game tonight!

I feel your pain. *breaks out wine and chocolate*

Back to the "when does he figure it out" discussion - I think it starts to sink in when Hawke *doesn't* hate him after he leaves after That Night. I also think that really *missing* someone's presence in your life can make you realize how much they mean to you. I've experienced this personally - someone I didn't want to admit I loved at the time (married to him now, so it all worked out! B)) decided to not return to University campus and lived away from school, so I hardly ever saw him anymore except between classes. Not having him there didn't make things *any* easier - in fact, missing him made me even more aware of how I felt and was probably the catalyst for making my move.

Anyway, back to the self-imposed DA2/Fen 'fast' - I started my Queen Cousland playthrough last night. Good lord, the combat pacing in Origins makes me want to stab my eyes out now.  It's sooo much better in DA2.

Manifesto

Hawke Estate

Fenris: (squinting at book) Hawke?

Hawke: Hmm?

Fenris: I am not familiar with the Adventures of the Black Fox, but I don't think that Philliam the Bard wrote much on the oppression of the Circle of Magi.

Hawke: Circle of Magi? (looks over Fenris' shoulder and pinches the bridge of her nose) Anders.

Fenris: Anders?

Hawke: Its his manifesto, its sodding everywhere. In all of the books, in my journal, (chuckles) Jorry the fishmonger was using copies of it to package his wares.

Fenris: At least its useful for something. He seems to write very disjointedly, one minute he's insulting, the next he's trying to reconcile with the Chantry. It makes no sense.

Hawke: You have become quite the literary critic my dear.

Fenris: I had an excellent teacher.

Hawke: Flatterer.

I went back to the Landsmeet on my mage that I basically crunched out just before DA2 to change Drunk!Alistair to King!Alistair. I forgot the options to persuade the nobles to my side-- so I got to fight in the Throne Room of the Denerim Palace.

I cried when I couldn't bludgeon people with my staff, and it was now a pixie-shooter again.

Yeah...I deleted that save. :crying: Hence why I'm doing a full playthru now.

Yeah but at least you will not have the problem of getting your AoE to cast.  I find this absolutely maddening in DA2 and never had the same difficulty in Origins.

I'm not sure.... stories that make me want to cry are in that "I don't know if I like that" category. Like "Where the Red Fern Grows"....

It was well written and good in the way that it drew you in. But I hate the dropping feeling in the pit of my stomach that comes along with reading tragedy.

That just means that it was done well, though.

So good. Very good. But saddening too.

I have a quick question.

I'm doing the questioning beliefs quest with Isabela and she asked me to go with her on her ship. But if I accept, what does that mean as far the romance with Fenris?

I think it might be a glitch. I completed the questioning beliefs for Fenris is Act 3 but no one seems to recognize it. Fenris will even say stuff like 'I don't want to talk about this right now'

*sigh* this is really getting on my nerves.

I've been trying to figure out why I prefer the Fenris romance to the Anders one and I think part of it has to do with when they each "fall in love."  With the Anders romance, he tells that he's been thinking Hawke every night for three years. Just from the tone in his voice, it's obvious that he's been thinking vivid sexual things. But with Fenris, I can imagine him sitting by the fire at night thinking about Hawke in combat: the way she plunges her daggers into a slaver's kidneys, the scrunch of her eyes as she conjures a lightning storm, or the line of her body as she decapitates someone. Basically, I imagine that he comes to love her after admiring her in combat for years. But he doesn't think about it as being in love.   With Anders, he is trying so hard to be “a man in love,” and if you let him, he succeeds. He certainly says all the right things to make a gal or guy swoon. But it's too typical. For as passionate as the Fenris romance is, there is a lot more lust in the Anders romance and it feels a little too dirty. The Fenris romance is hot without feeling dirty or creepy. And I think a big part of that is in what exactly they are thinking about when they think about Hawke at night.

(My apologies to those with male Hawkes, but it's easier to keep my pronouns referring to the right
person if I assume a female Hawke.)

Edit: I mostly lurk and the formatting hosed me.  Does the formating always get crazy when you copy from a word document?
