I actually like the idea. I mean, a lot. Maybe it's a little angsty, but I just think it's kind of a cool little side-drama that casts a whole new light on the relationship.Maria Caliban wrote...
I was just asking how people felt about a love interest you couldn't touch. Given that people thought Tali and Garrus were fine, I'm not surprised many don't care. I am surprised I'm the only one who seems to see it as a negative.
Don't mind me. I'll go sit in the shallow and unromantic corner.
But despite loving it here, I never romanced Tali or Garrus. In fact, that's a big reason why I haven't played a FemShep in ME2. I don't like Jacob, and the idea of Thane or Garrus is a little too weird. My overriding philosophy is that when logistics have to enter the equation, that kind of kills the romance for me. In fact this even touches on why I don't like romancing Dwarves with non-Dwarves (remember the "where do you put the legs" dialogue?). As much as I like Tali, I can't help but find the whole medical angle a huge buzzkill. And it's not like it's a bad thing...it's actually kind of sweet, but...I dunno.

I had one of the most surreal conversations of my life a few days ago. A friend and I were coming back from the framing shop where we got a few BioWare lithos framed, and Mass Effect came up. We got on this very topic, and I talked about Thane and Garrus and how they were weird lizard-men and do they even have the proper bits? I told him I had a strictly no-aliens policy, with an exception for Asari. Then he had to go bring up the fact that they do the crazy "embrace eternity" thing when they mate, so maybe they don't have the "proper bits" either. And there's only one gender, so who knows what's going on down there. I basically decided that I would continue to believe that all was as it should be down below, until and even after I got evidence to the contrary.

So anyway...I guess it's different with Fenris because it's something I can sort of relate to. I know what pain feels like, whereas I can't really say what is going on under Tali's suit or what it's like to be a weird, scaly lizard guy. Pain from physical contact is something that is easily conceptualized, and I can be confident that aside from that, everything will sort of work as it's supposed to. Elves are not so different from humans (at least not to the extent that Quarians or Drell or Turians are), and that basic level of compatibility is something I find essential.
