Is there any truth to that, and has anyone theorized what type of ritual Danarius performed? I would assume Fenris would have to be nude and bound, and the mental imagery of that is...intriguing, but no details on what exactly happened. Wonder if the writer even knew.

I have little doubt he was nude at the time and probably bound just for the sake of stopping his flinching, unless they did that blood magic binding thing Grace used on her hostage instead. He said they were carved into his skin, so I'm imagining lots and lots of blood if that's the case. Likely had healers on hand to make sure he didn't die right off from blood loss. I wonder how long it took. Probably a long while to cover his whole body.
Just thinking about it makes me shudder.

Yeah the more you think about...the more you don't want to think about it.
Poor Fenris.

I think it would've taken a long time... raw lyrium is toxic, after all. Even with healers and bloodmages at hand, it probably would've had to be done gradually for his body to survive it.
And yes... poor, poor Fenris. O_O

But I had a point.
I'm forcing myself to complete it-and not return to DA2 until it's done-and you know what's keeping me going? Nathaniel. I love him. So damn much.
I seem to have a type.
Fenris
Nathaniel
Thane-even though he's from ME2
I love the brooding dudes who can turn badass at a moment's notice. They can be moody all they want, as long as they have the stones to back it up.
I miss Fenris so much right now, though. Must. Keep. Going.
Edit:: After meeting his sister Nathaniel even asked me if we could move on because he needed to think. It reminded me of Fenris. I cried for my elf for an hour....

It's pretty darn admirable how resilient Fenris is.
Morning, Ladivixxen!
He doesn't remember it vividly. He "only remembers it for the pain it caused him", or some other such wording. He remembers that it hurt like hell and little else. The fact that it was lyrium being poured into his skin is probably knowledge that came after.
But yes, Fenris is damn resilient for someone whose personality has only known slavery and abuse.

Funny, I don't remember that. Didn't the reunion actually go swimmingly in Nate's case?
Yeah,
I loved Nate too. Broody, rather bitter, but also honest and reasonable
and surprisingly open-minded and noble... Did you conscript him or let
him go? I let him go, and it felt really rewarding when he came crawling
back of his own free will, confused as hell and wanting to be friends.

Oh yeah. I didn't say it didn't go well. As I recall-because it was late and I was barely paying attention-he was just shocked about what she told him about his father. I think he was a little upset to find that his father's death was justified because the dude had gone ape-****. So he said something about needing to think, and that we should get back to the business at hand.
It wasn't a perfect comparison, but it did remind me of Fenris.
Edit: I conscripted him, mostly because I wanted to see his face...priceless. I was playing my favorite Warden though, my Dalish Elf, but I feel like if I played my F!Cousland she would have let him go, and then let him come crawling back. lol

Looking at everyone's modified avatars makes me wish I had the PC version of DA2. *sigh*
Anyway, I don't know if "carved" should be taken literally. Fenris does like to be dramatic at times. I thought the
ritual might have been more magical than physical. More like using energy or telekinesis to direct the liquid lyrium onto his skin. I don't see how this could be beyond the Tevinter magisters. I would assume if they did it that way, it would be less fuss and mess, yet still get the intricate designs. Whomever branded him obviously did so with aesthetics in mind.
And magically branding might have sped up the process, giving Fenris a better chance of surviving - and could explain the simultaneous memory wipe.

Well he clearly says the word 'carved' several times, so I think that's more literal. It seems kind of easy from a literary standpoint (and at the same time unnecessarily complex in character) that they would have just 'magicked' it into him. I would take it as literal, it makes me think of traditional scarification. Cutting the skin isn't impossible to do with aesthetics in mind, and would give him that raised skin effect.
As for the memory wipe, I'm still of the opinion that that was deliberate considering Danarius' comments in his letter.

That reunion went too well imho but he does ask to walk off to 'think'. That was one thing in Awakening that bugged me -- how quickly Nate went from Hatey McHawtHaterson to "Let's be friends...kkthnxandbtwyoucan'tremovemypantshahahaha".
With the Cousie in my Nate story, I conscripted him under the pretense that she wouldn't let another good man (read: Alistair) die again to an archdemon. She wished she had saved Loghain so he could have taken the last blow instead of Ali (joke would have been on her in that situation, eh?).
There are some aspects of Fenris that remind me a lot of Nate, ngl. I also have a thing for the brooding brooders.

Nice sort of thing to wake up to.
That's really beautiful. I must admit though, while I normally adore Aimo's BioWare fanart, I don't really like her interpretation of Fenris that much, TBH. More often than not she seems to draw him in really feminine poses and such. Though I suppose it'd be hard for anyone to look especially masculine next to her rugged, manly Hawke.
Aaaaaaand, now I have to go check out this thread you guys are talking about.

She says Fenris was short. Since when? He and Hawke are practically the same height. In the glowy or nonglowy kiss scene, female Hawke stands tiptoe to kiss and nuzzle his neck. Maybe the artist never paid attention to how Fenris hunches over.

Perhaps the artist plays primarily as ManHawke, so he looks shorter (IDK how tall ManHawke is)? I thought he seemed pretty tall for an elf, he's just got terrible posture.Maiafay wrote...

That art is beautiful too though, very dynamic. Is he dual-wielding or am I seeing it wrong? (I miss DW warriors, T_T)

Yes, he's duel wielding. The artist says she knows that's not accurate.
And even with male Hawke, Fenris is the same height. I've played two male characters and romanced Fenris each time. I can't seem to stay away from him. I tried...I did. I think the only way I can romance anyone else is to not recruit him, but then you miss out on so much.
And by the way, that DAO character creator. I can't download it. For some reason the mirrors keep disconnecting. Figures. Ah well, I'll make do with whoever this person is I'm using for an avatar.
