I decided to romance Anders for once and not Fenris... it's not going well!
Silly me picked up Anders first, so I got the 'I would break your heart and that would kill me.' (paraphrased) line and I was totally 'squee' at that point.. Then I picked up Fenris, I was trying really hard to ignore all the flirt options, but I was actually staring at my screen for 5 minutes when I got the 'Anso found a capable woman' line, one voice in my head was saying screaming 'pick the heart option!', another voice was saying 'no, you are romancing Anders this time!'.. this playthrough is going to be so much fun. xD

Illuminated video... love it, hence linking it in the first place . But, I do find the voice over song to be a little distracting. The montage is beautiful, however. I especially like how the music synch with the flying bottle/heart rip/shoulder shrug.

As for duel-wielding warriors, I kind of have a hard time picturing Fenris as anything but two-handed swordsman now. I even use gff editor to edit axes/mauls he wields to look like swords. It just... clicks with me, I guess.  I do remember debates prior to his reveal though. Mage, arcane warrior, dual wielder... I don't remember if anyone called that he'd wield a huge two-handed blade .

I'm with you - I love swords for the aesthetics even if I have other weapons with better stats. This is universally true with my PCs (and appropriate companions) from Origins as well. Only Oghren could pull off the full-time axe/maul thing and looked odd with a sword, IMO. And maces/mauls? Ugh.

That said, I do have to say I think the Bearded Axe(? - from the Hightown weapons vender near Jean Luc's) fits nicely with Fenris' overall art/color palette, so I did have him using that for a bit.

I think the memory wipe and the lyric branding are two differed rituals done at the same time...since if you give Fenris back Danarius will wipe his memories again...not rebranding, but rewipe. I could be wrong, but that's kinda what it sounds like to me

I agree. I like DW, but nothing perfectly matches Fenris' blend of finesse and raw power as the two-handed sword. It fits his personality perfectly.

I kind of think if they'd kept DW it would've better suited Carver than 2H, though.

I completely agree.  Which, to me, puts an entirely new spin on Fenris' sister, actually.  I tend to think his loss of memory was never something they anticipated when Fenris agreed to accept Danarius' "boon".  I wonder, then, if Varania thought Fenris just disappeared, that he "abandoned" her and their mother to whatever it is that happened to them in the aftermath.  If you read the Wiki about Tevinter, anyway, it's pretty clear being an Elf in that country is purely difficult, so that some Elves actually sell themselves into slavery out of desperation.  

I just wonder, if Fenris' sister felt some kind of betrayal, so that she would agree to work with Danarius the way she did, especially in light of all he's gained/accomplished by the time she really does see him again.  What must she have thought, seeing him stride in there with Hawke and their friends the way they do, obviously healthy and well-supplied, even happy?  Maybe she didn't even know about the memory loss until Danarius comes downstairs.

It also means Danarius is that much more of an a**hole.  I mean, it's not enough he tortures the guy, poors burning lyrium into his skin, and then collars him, parading him around like an animal in a zoo.  Nooo, he even robs him of whatever sort of pitiful family he had going into it, sigh.

Indeed. Chances are, it's like you said, memory wiping was not a part of the deal. To create the perfect living weapon, Fenris mus have no ties and no 'emotional' attachments for easy controls. Perhaps after the wipe, he lost all contact with Varania like you said. She may or may not tried to go back to visit him/get something more out of it since time as a free elf is not easy, and they may have lied to her about stuff, like Fenris did not want to see her and stuff (you know, kinda like Goldanna thing). Varania resented Fenris, and it's because her knowledgeto what happened is very limited and came up with her own conclusions

Fenris and Alistair are the same in this manner. They had this hope, this longing to belong somewhere and to have a family only to gave that bite them in the butt. They wanted their family to accept them as is or just like that without any questions, which they couldve of but not to because of this...resentment. Life's hard for them I guess if they don't want their only surviving family

It sounds to me like Fenris' initial memory loss was caused by trauma and/or was a side effecf of the lyrium branding, at least as far as he knows. It may have been deliberate, but Fenris himself never speaks of it as something that was done to him, just as a thing that happened in association with the things that were done to him. There's no compelling reason for memory wipe #2 to involve another branding, though, I agree.

Well he wouldn't have known if it were deliberate, since... he lost his memory. The lyrium branding is more obviously intentional, and I imagine Danarius wouldn't have gloated about the memory wipe like he did the branding.

I think the simple fact that Danarius referred to it as his 'latest' memory wipe (or whatever the wording was) would indicate he purposely did so the first time, I would imagine to erase any prior connections Leto had so there would never be anyone more important to him than Danarius.

Yeah. I think we can safely assume that memory wipe and branding did indeed happened at the same time. I do believe is something separate tho. He may have lost some due trauma but I do think Danarius did wipe his memory clean, or else why bother the second around knowing Fenris went to him and lost all hope, you know? I'm sure it's a preventative measure. To make he obey everything he says

Just started a new Hawke (installed 1.02 last night) with the intention of romancing someone else, anybody else - and nope, not going to happen... grrrrrr... damn you Fenris!

I only wish that the end would be a bit more... well I guess just more. I am curious about what happened to the companions and I do wish the Codex would update after Hawke and Fenris get back together. it still feels like unfinished business.
