Paragon of Her Kind only took me 2 hrs...Thats what I get for skipping EVERYTHING in Orzammar...

I liked the Fade. :D It was something different and reminded me of quirky adventure games... Rather, what was tiring about it was the fact that it was a huge long level in the middle of another huge long level (the Circle). I was also a bit disappointed that rescuing your companions from their nightmares entailed only a straightforward, short conversation and a fight in a small area.

Sebastian... What strikes me about Sebastian is that, despite action-y "knight in shining armour" first impressions, he's very much the spoiled prince who won't get his own hands dirty. He hires strangers to get revenge for him (rather than with him, as would be possible), then has these same strangers back him up in dealing with those actually responsible, he tries to involve Fenris in turning the apostates of the party in to the Templars, and of course there's him insisting that Hawke kill Anders to avenge Elthina instead of just doing it himself, and promising to bring an army (in other words, involve a whole lot of other people to do his bidding) if she refuses. Even him using a bow instead of a melee weapon fits the theme.

K so its not done.. but here's a blurb..

KIRKWALL HIGH

Carver slammed the car door shut, his usual broody scowl plastered on his square jaw and hooded blue eyes. He sighed and ran a shaky hand through his dark hair. "Another new school. Did you really have to set the gym on fire?"

Angelica Hawke laughed at her younger brother. Obviously it had been an accident, but you couldn't tell him that. She gave her brother the once-over, committing his form to memory with her golden brown eyes. He'd gotten tall, finally growing into his feet and hands, during their stay at Lothering Prep. She sighed, the signs of training from his stint on the Junior varsity wallop team clearly showing in the bulky muscles he'd packed on. It had always irritated Carver that he couldn't draw more attention to himself.

"Well it wasn't as if it was on purpose, Carver Malcome Hawke. Its not easy trying to hide magic in gym class when you're being berated for being to weak to properly swing a wallop mallet" Her sister, Carver's twin, Bethany responded. Bethany was built like Angelica. She was petite, dark haired, and brown eyed. It was very clear that she and Carver were twins though.

".. but did you really have to set the thing on FIRE when you threw it across the gym?"

The sound of the twins bickering faded from Hawke's attention as she scanned the front of the building. The white carved stone building seemed to jut at angry angles out of the ground and other buildings nearby. It didn't look terribly different then the other ancient tevinter style buildings in Kirkwall.

Hawke took a deep breath. She always hated new schools. They'd been to 5 different high schools, 12 different middle schools, and no less then Twenty Four elementary schools, thanks to Father, herself, and Bethany's magic.

Father had kept them moving. They told the schools, the districts, that Father was a traveling salesman who couldn't bare to leave his family behind. The truth of the matter was, Malcome Hawke had been trying to keep his daughters out of The Circle.

She sighed again, turning to gather her-still-arguing twin siblings, when someone ran by, bumping against her shoulder. She felt her backpack slide off of her back, and she screamed, "HEY!" It did little good, the red-haired thief was streaking his way across the courtyard towards the building.

Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately for the thief, he didn't get very far. A crossbow bolt came launching out of literally no-wheres, pinning the thief against a wall. Hawke watched, wide eyed, as a Dwarf apeared from the crowd, slinging a very fancy crossbow over his shoulder.

"I once knew a guy who could charm the coin from your pocket with a smile. But you? You don't have the skill to work Hightown, let alone Kirkwall High." and with that, the dwarf slugged the red-haired thief directly in the chin.

With a single toss, her bag was back in her hands, and she was staring wide-eyed at the Dwarf, who had an extraordinary amount of chest hair, and a layer of stubble on his chin. "Varric Tethras, Archer, and Journalist, at your service."

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the fade, but when I'm doing a rush pt trying out mods, I can do with some skipping here and there :) and it is levels like that where I realized how awesome DA:O is...compare to DA2's dungeons and level set up. DA2 is not bad, just...simpler

And indeed. Seb does not want to get his hands dirty because of his vows...however I dont think he realize that his vows are meant to be broken, especially now that he's the heir to starkhaven. He's pretty much a boy that havent realize what it is he really want or what he wants to do with himself, and very irrational.

I don't think his vows have anything to do with that - I'd rather think it's a remnant of the problem that got him roped into the Chantry in the first place - acting like an irresponsible, immature twit. He's laid off the drinking and womanizing and taken the Chantry's tenets to heart, obviously, but he still hasn't learned - or really had the incentive to learn - how to take the initiative and then bear the responsibility.

Also, picture time!

So this latest playthrough is going a bit strange for me in terms of the Fen romance.

I'm in act two, and i have Fenris on 90+ rivalry. I go and do the talks with all of the companions, then head out to Sundermount to trigger 'A Bitter Pill.' I complete that, using the romance option at the end, then return to the estate to have Fenris apologize for his behavior.

That's where it gets weird, for me at least. In past playthroughs, the romance option comes up, and he either stays for pinning against the wall goodness, or he leaves, only to return a short bit later. In this playthrough, he either never shows up for the second time, or the romance option does not even come up.

Anyone got any advice on how to go about this?

A few reasons for bugging out fenris's romance:

1. did you do "A Bitter Pill" with out doing his "Questioning Beliefs" first?  His romance wont trigger unless he's had the "Questioning Beliefs" conversation with you BEFORE you go kill hadriana and try and get him to stay.

2. Was there a flirt option at the end of this conversation? His romance wont trigger if there's no flirt option at the tail end of that conversation. Its a tell-tail sign that you've done it wrong. When the line "Is this what its like to have friends?" (or something to that effect) pops up, a flirt option should be available. If its not, then the romance-y bits wont trigger.  Just load to a previous save and figure out what you've done wrong :)

3. Did you sleep with Isabela? Sometimes just sleeping with her will
break the chain. It doesn't -always- happen, but once and a while it
does. Just load to a save previous (aka, even the autosave where she's
at your house) and gently decline her offer for "funteimz".

4. Did you utterly and amazingly flirt with Anders or Merill.. prettty much at all. It doesn't always break current romance lines, but there's always a chance that it will, and these two are Relationship-juggernauts. You can always flirt/sleep with them afterwards if you've no plans on continuing the romance with Fen into act3 ;p

Yeah, the romance option didn't trigger in the Questioning Beliefs quest. I'm gonna go back and see how I can fix that. Thanks for the help.

I find the reactions to Seb interesting. I can understand his anger and lashing out when the chantry is blown up. A woman who is like a mother to him, for years, has just been killed in front of him. (It's his Alistair/Loghain moment)  It would be weird if he had a less tempered reaction in my opinion.

But I don't think he was a well written character overall. And the lack of decision over a 7 year period is strange. But that is a timing problem with the game

It's too bad really. He could have very interesting. I like him but as I said earlier he's just not well written.

I don't blame him for being angry when the Chantry is blown up. I'm just remarking that he gets angry and outraged, then *stands there and whines at Hawke to do something*. "Your first act must be to execute this traitor." He sounds like a little kid bugging his parents for something he wants to happen. Again for emphasis - he does nothing, and if *Hawke* does nothing, as well, he threatens to bring an army and INVADE KIRKWALL. It's like a kid saying that his big brother will come and beat you up, except with WAR. Since this kind of laid back letting-others-do-the-dirty-work behaviour is subtle but consistent throughout his arc, I do consider him well-written at least in that aspect.

I'm only judging by his companion quests and such, though. I don't think I ever actually took him with me on normal quests. To the people who did - how is he? Any memorable moments?

I've taken Sebastian around a lot, and one of the things that annoyed me most about his character was (and still is) the fact that most times, in his non-personal quests, I have absolutely no idea if I'm going to randomly gain a huge friendship/rivalry hit just for saying something. Meaning, I can't get a read on his likes and dislikes at all. There's some obvious ones - he approves of giving money to those Ferelden orphans in Act 3 - but in places like dealing with Feynriel, one game I gained +20 rivalry for something that gave me +5 friendship the next time around, and my choices were identical. And the way he won't go into the Fade feels so cheap, especially with his "it's the same as the magisters who corrupted the Golden City!!1" bit. It also irked me during a rivalry run to find out that you're forced to take friendship points just for having him along to find Nathaniel.

I wouldn't necessarily say his writing is bad, but it's definitely rushed and unpolished. Frankly, he'd make a lot more sense as a character if he were about 14 or 15 years old.

I'm seriously considering romance Seb in a playthrough...I'm intrigued with what would happen with the later games when 'the viscountess and the prince of starkhaven' join forces

Sebastian is one of those characters I wanted to like.  I thought I would, a lot.  Then I met him and I found myself very meh about the whole experience.  I also had a hard time figuring out his rivalry/friendship answers, at first, and found the whole process extremely frustrating.

He almost felt like a poor-man's Nathaniel to me (grandfather's bow??? helloooooooo).

I don't think I dislike him, I just wish there's more. Jennifer said his story doesn't end there so I'm going to be hopeful. It gonna be hard for me to not romance Fenris just to try it out and have a save for it... I don't know if I want to :( but I'm tempted

So here's a though for the fengirls out there. Do you think Fenris would cry if Hawke died infront of him? I was watching Moulin Rouge and I got to thinking about Satine's death, if Hawke would have suffered a similar fate - slowly dying due to a disease or illness, how Fenris would handle it if her were romanced. I don't think he would quite lay on the water works the same way Obi Wan did but I do wonder if he would she a few tears and maybe a sniffle?

I think he would. Fenris is pretty in touch with his feelings throughout the romance, the whole 'promise me you won't die' thing for instance. So I don't think he's the type that would hold it in just for the sake of appearances.

That's not to say I think he's typically a crier, but if the love of his life died in some horribly tragic way then yeah, I could see it.

Hawke as Satine and Fenris as Christian?

I don't think he would seriously bawl his eyes out if she died, but I can see him crying a little. Mostly soundless crying. Posted Image

Some people grieve in less than typical fashion. I could see Fenris shedding some tears over Hawke's death, certainly. I can also see him breaking things. Lots of things. And killing people.

I think Hawke's dying would be pretty devastating to Fenris. He has just learned live his live for himself and then to lose the person who has been there for him. It would be tough. As for crying, people grieve in different ways, no one way being better than any other.

i dont know that I could see Hawke as Satine and Fenris as Christian, per say, other than circumstances, lol.

I just don't know if I could necessarily see him as a crier though - just maybe more angst and dark broodiness, kind of like Batman. A person would keep certain things private and bottle them up.

I could see the silent crying, if there was only a few tears, maybe and can definately see the breaking and killing.

TBH though i think it would be very gut wrenching to actually watch him cry. He's always so stoic so I think it would be a lot more powerful.

I think....Fenris will shed a tear or two, but not cry, it's not something he does. He would be devastated that's for sure, goes on a rampage and ki anythinthat would relate to her death. He will leave Kirkwall, and start this on the run life again. Hakwe is his reason, his home and his stability. I picture Fenris being broken after hakwe's death and maybe never get over it
