I like Fenris for his personallity. Sure he can go into full on "all mages must be killed" mode when he's really ticked off, but he has solid reasons for his beliefs. He can be cold, and a bit of a jerk to other members of the party, see "A New Path"

(Yes Merrill is a blood mage and I get where Fenris is coming from but come on, the girl's mentor was just killed, be it her fault or not a little empathy would have been nice)

I have a different interpretation of that. "I'm not sorry she died. I'm only sorry she died to save you." is a hell of a thing to say, yes, but he follows it up with "Let's hope her sacrifice isn't wasted on you". Combined with the fact that, for all his magerage, he doesn't ever actually raise a hand against the party's mages or try to turn them in, I'm inclined to think that his jerkish attitude towards them is, at least in part, an effort to encourage or provoke them the only way he knows how (with his stunted social skills) into proving him wrong, into showing that mages can be strong enough to resist temptation.

As for his negative attitude, he's hilariously self-deprecating about that if you call him out on it. XD After Alone, try the "You're whining" option.

Fenris: No, I... Well, all right, yes. Fair enough.

Per usual, Fenris is the only one not shouting. Also I love how he's all shocked about Aveline falling in battle.

Oh my god. I've just thought of something unholy. My own little addendum to this banter:

• Fenris: I thought all dwarves had beards. Where's yours?
• Varric: I misplaced it, along with my sense of dwarven pride and my gold-plated noble caste pin.
• Fenris: I thought maybe it fell onto your chest.
• Varric: Oh-ho! The broody elf tells a joke!
• Fenris: I don't brood.
• Varric: Friend, if your brooding were any more impressive, women would swoon as you passed. They'd have broody babies in your honor.
• Anders: So they'd be... broodmothers?

And since we're still discussing it - I have a theory on the Denarius/Fenris thing....It's entiely possible that he abused Fenris sexually but did nat actually rape him. Rape and sexual abuse are more about dominance and control than actual sex anyway....Just a musing that came to me.

I don't think Fenris was abused that way. He was supposed to be a living weapon which means he would have to be strong mentally as well as physically and this kind of abuse could disturb it. I read Danarius's lines about "affection" as extream loyalty and maybe worship to some degree (Fenris had his memory wiped, he doesn't know better then what Danarius planted in his head) And his line about "the lad is rather skilled" to his combat abilities. When it comes to banter with Isabela, I think it's more like "why do I even bother talking to her". When romanced by Hawke, Fenris cuts most of her "dirty" banters off short and we all know what happends when Fenris and Issy get some action together which just strengtens my theory that there was no abuse in the past since he is perfectly capable of having a healthy sexual relationship, either it's casual fling or serious commitment.

Just that something Fenris said during ''Fenris Recruited'', after he talks about Denarius having him pour wine, the Olive Branch reply is "You were his servant, as well as his bodyguard?" and his reply is "I was his slave, I propped up the furniture if he wished it."

The thing is thast no one knows, and we're unlikely to get an answer...Meh.

"Isabela's on the ground! ... appropriately!" God, Aveline vs. Isabela never makes me stop laughing like a donkey.

Also, I am not going to record the Anders romance scene, slap the Justice "I'm coming!" combat line in after the fade to black, and put it on YouTube. I am a good person and I'm better than that. Also someone's probably done it already.

As for the question of whether Danarius raped Fenris, there's never going to be a fandom consensus about that: even setting aside entirely the question of whether it's plausible or in-character, for some people it's a kink and they want a side of it with everything, and for others it's a squick they don't want anywhere near the characters they enjoy. Neither side is going to bend, nor should they have to. I have to say I'm surprised non-consensual Danarius/Fenris isn't a massively popular breakout pairing, but then, I've recently had my spirit broken by Supernatural fandom, where it is perpetually rape o'clock and even innocent-looking fic may unexpectedly contain dodgy consent.

So ladies and gentlemen.. having convinced my husband.. one more time.. to actually play instead of making fun og me (I had to agree to do his p90x with him, the things I do for fenris...), I asked him if he's going to go gay for anders (like our bestiest best best guy friend did totally accidentally) and he said, point blank, "Crazy mages aren't my bag. I can't even finish romancing morrigan. I'll go for the broody one, he sounds more my speed".

LOL. Well, Supernatural is in a category of its own, even amongst fandoms. I suppose Harry Potter, Torchwood and Dr Who fans can also relate.

But yeah, head canons are just that. I do think Fenris was abused that way, but that has to do with my thoughts on how the people in a culture such as the Tevinter Imperium-- where slaves and slavery are so ingrained that Fenris himself says it would collapse under its own weight without slaves-- would handle and deal with slave/master relationships. He also has a lot to say regarding slave psychology, all of which sort of lends itself to that interpretation (to me) as well.

I would have gone without, say, Anders blowing up the Chantry for a nice shirtless Fenris scene.  Just sayin'.
