Personally I see Danarius' view of Fenris being somewhere between "useful object" and "obedient dog." Sex, abusive or otherwise, just doesn't factor into their relationship as I imagine it.

Fenris' behavior toward Hawke's (and Isabela's) flirting also gives me the impression that he has no negative sexual background. He reacts with surprise, or the occasional dry exasperation, and even curiosity and fondness to sexual advances, even in Act 1. Those reactions don't seem the kind that would come from someone who had been repeatedly abused in any sexual manner.

Certainly not while he's still recovering from the other abuses he experienced as a slave, which he clearly is through acts one and two and early act three. Fenris is also very forthright about his trauma to the extent that he is able to identify and articulate it, and it seems odd that he wouldn't mention sexual abuse in the conversation in which he tells Hawke he hasn't been with anyone since his escape because he's haunted by physical pain.

I think that discovering that sex is relevant to him in any capacity is very much a part of the same process whereby Fenris discovers that he is able to have friends and hobbies and other qualities outside of the previously personality-defining tension between Danarius' demands and Fenris' rejection of them. Fenris sleeping with Isabela if Hawke doesn't get there first isn't random background party lulz, it's an important character development beat.

Frigging gorgeous. This artist has shown up here a few times already, and I recommend the rest of her gallery. Among other things, she's done a couple of stunning Assassin's Creed wallpapers.

I like that comic at the end. Congratulations Hawke, you've created a bookworm.

On another subject, is it just me or does the "Gamlen's Greatest Treasure" quest give the idea of a younger Gamlen being an Indiana Jones style treasure hunter?

Fenris: You intend to embark on a journey into the Deep Roads in search of treasure?

Hawke: That's right, and we could use someone with your talents in our party.

Fenris: Wonderful.

Hawke: Come on Fenris, where's your sense of adventure?

Fenris: I left it back in Minrathous, along with most of my memories and my death-wish.

(Gamlen walks up to the table)

Gamlen: I couldn't help hearing that you're going into the Deep Roads.

Hawke: (sighs) Uncle, I am not giving you a cut of the profits.

Gamlen: I'm  not looking for a cut, I'm looking to join you.

Hawke: No offense uncle, but you don't really seem like the treasure-hunting type.

Gamlen: I'll have you know that when I was your age I mounted an expedition up Sundermount to retrieve an idol.

Fenris: I would assume that this tale would involve a giant boulder, a pit of snakes and a man having his face melted off with magic.

Gamlen: So you've heard the tale.

Fenris: Yes, and  I heard that the Viscount had his "top men" working on what that idol did exactly.

Gamlen: It belonged in a museum, I wouldn't have minded the credit.

Hawke: (sighs) Uncle, you're not coming, first off its too dangerous, and secondly I don't think we're going to run into any trouble that involves magical idols.

Gamlen: Suit yourself. (walks off)

While I don't believe Fenris was sexually abused I do believe he was abused both mentally and physically.

Danarius: "Oh, how little you know, my pet."

Danarius: (to Hawke) "Do I detect a note of jealousy? It's not surprising. The lad is rather skilled, isn't he?"

Danarius: "You weren't always this way, Fenris. Once upon a time you had affection for me. I remember it fondly."

And?

That doesn't have to mean sexual abuse. Skilled refers to Fenris combat skills. Affection could be Danarius considered Fenris as a well trained attack dog and Fenris prized any scrap of affection (a compliment, a pat on the head) that Danarius gave him.

Pardon my Orlesian, but everything Danarius says is a mindf*ck. Every word out of his mouth is to cause doubt, both within Fenris and within Hawke. I personally don't believe anything he says or implies.

You know, I've never even thought about Fenris' candor about his other abuses, but you're absolutely correct. Who would tell a complete and utter stranger that their master led them around on a leash, but not tell a potential lover about abusive sexual experiences? It doesn't make sense.

About Isabela - that's why I can't hate her sleeping with Fenris in an alternate reality. It shows incredible growth for him, and I think they're good for each other. And damned hot, too. :D

Edit: Attempting to fix derptastic copy + paste job...

To be fair, it is quite possible for someone to have multiple traumas that they've dealt with to different degrees, such that they're capable of talking candidly about some of them but not others -- I just don't think that's what's going on in this case, because of the way this stacks up with Fenris' other behavior (his lack of hesitation with Isabela, the specific nature of his freakout after he sleeps with Hawke).

My only  problem with Isabela/Fenris is that there's no canonical Hawke/Isabela/Fenris. COME ON, BIOWARE. You gave us Spirit Monk/Dawn Star/Silk Fox, and Dawn Star and Silk Fox aren't even a potential background pairing!

Oh well. Maybe Aimo will draw more of it.

Huh, I got those endings just by flirting with him and going the rivalry path, but in a full romance with Fenris.  For some reason, I thought he proposed there if in a romance and a rival.

How disappointing :(
