@Heiden: I agree - to me, that feels like a turning point in the relationship. Very specifically.
I'm phone posting so please bear with me: someone said they were in a real life rivalmance as well; I'm the opposite. You could consider me in a RL maxed Friendmance. That isn't to say we agree on everything, and when we *do* disagree, it can be...spirited. Also, he does a great job of challenging my preconceived notions! This, I think, is why I'm partial to the Friendmance.
I should get an account and write the Friendmance gap years I've been turning over in my head. Is there anything BUT ff.net, since it seems plagued with problems?

It's definitely heavily contingent on the personality of your Hawke, which is inevitably going to be highly individual. My canon Hawke tends to react to interpersonal fail on the level of e.g. Aveline or Fenris with amusement, mockery and exasperation, but it makes perfect sense for a more serious business Hawke to take a broodier, stormier approach toautumnyte wrote...
Yeah, there are some similar indications that they are more-than-friends but less-than-lovers in the rivalmance too. Though it is contradictory, and buggy dialogue can add to this sense of WTF is going on with those two? There definitely is SOMETHING there, though, in either case.Twofold Black wrote...
Some of the dialogue in a friendmance (I don't recall how it plays out in a rivalmance -- maybe it's the same, actually) suggests to me that they spend that three years more or less having a chaste relationship and Fenris is so confused and emotionally stunted that he hasn't noticed. In my personal canon, Hawke spends that time watching Fenris angst about how IT IS EEEEENDED and going "LOL YOU MORON. You're lucky you're good-looking. Next round's on you, drunky."
I guess it just boils down to my having a preference for own personal head canon of Hawke having been an equally angsty and stubborn moron during that time. But I can absolutely see your explanation for it in the context of the friendmance as well.

I'm in a friendmance. We hardly ever argues because we share almost the same views. We just bicker lol~! If my bf doesn't agree with me, he simply doesn't, and that's that, and vice versa. it's weird. we're too laid back to do the rivalmance stuff. i'm sure it has to do with the personality and whatnot
Yah. Did just the mainline plot quests, as fast as I could.Helen0rz wrote...

I said as much, awhile ago (along with one other person, though I forget the username)
My boyfriend and I come from very different backgrounds. I've been middleclass all my life, but compared to him I'm white trash (and before anyone says anything that's how I describe myself, not how he does. Inevitably someone always wants to label him a douche for that, before I can explain that that is my interpretation). He's Italian. I'm American. He spent most of his life in New York. I am from a truly inconsequential town. He does not discuss religion or judge those of a different type, but he is definitely Catholic. I am agnostic, at best. Both of us are too stubborn to give in when we fight, so arguments usually take on a life of their own. But I wouldn't trade him for anyone else.
That said, do you like the rivalmance because it's different, or the friendmance because it's similar?

Yeah, and I skipped convos that matched previous choices I've made. THat helped a bit. Sad thing is, I'm skipping much less of Awakenings just because I don't remember all that much about it!

It's funny how we all can relate to either side of 'mance. Mine is almost full on rival in RL. Even when you get down to different astrological signs we're rival lol.
Umm... Fenris... what can we say but he brings the best out of us

Indeed. That, we can all agree on.
@Twofold: I was trying to get that convo (the one in Long Road) but I don't think I'd gotten to the smexytimes yet. So you have to do that before she'll quiz you on how Hawke and LI deal with the situation? (I want to see it!)
On that topic: My poor canon Hawke encountered the Hadriana ambush *during* Long Road (on the way there). I could only imagine my Hawke struggling with her own emotions (and perhaps being a bit rude/blunt to Aveline when she confronts Aveline and Donnic) after Fenris blew up at her post-Hadriana and left the party, leaving Varric, Issy, and Hawke to finish Long Road without him. My mind went interesting places with that. (Can I suggest a prompt?)

Huzzah! *Passes cookies!*
Ooo, and I just saw something funny. Hawke (slightly behind) and Fenris were fighting a Mercenary Assassin when the Assassin jumped into invis to go backstab someone. Apparently, they were both in range to get kicked back slightly... and poor Hawke ended up in a exploding trap that injured both her and Fenris.
Talk about a good shot...
Hmmm... now I wonder how Fenris would react to an injured Hawke.
