Err... but anyway...
I like both the friend and rival romances for Fenris and think that they both have their pros. For some reason I prefer the rivalmance, though. It just seemed to make more sense in my playthrough than a friendmance would have. I never saw Fen and my Hawke as enemies or anything... they just didn't agree on everything and called eachother out on things. I liked it... it felt pretty honest. And I liked in the end that they still had this fierce loyalty for eachother and stayed together despite their differences.
Plus I have an unhealthy obsession with mismatched couples. Maybe that's part of it. In real life, I like
nice calm friendmances. But in games or stories I seem to always get into couples that have a little more tension, or maybe under normal circumstances shouldn't be together. I mean... I got Fenris with a mage, Alistair with a Warden who was not only a mage but an elf to boot, and Shepard with Garrus in Mass Effect 2.
I think I have a problem.
In any case, I'm just happy that there was the option in DA2 to strike up a romance regardless of whether a character fell into the friend or rival category. It was nice not being forced to make decisions a certain way just to please someone. When I played DA:O, I sometimes wanted to make decisions a certain way but couldn't because I didn't want to screw my chances with Alistair by getting disapproval points. (And I couldn't bear to NOT have him in my party. Just couldn't leave him behind!) So I like that there was the option for rivalmances and friendmances in this game. It was an interesting twist.
