Well... I think we're coming up with colorful theories because we've figured there has to be more to his story. We're trying to come up with reasons why he was made a slave and branded with lyrium in the first place, and how he survived that process. It could simply be in the end "just because", or it could turn out there's something else about him (like he's an Arlathan or whatnot) to explain everything.nightcobra8928 wrote...

me too, but it's just so fun to see these people going on about trying to find out more about the characters and their backgrounds.:innocent:

There was a movie " Lady Hawke" with Rutger Hauer and if I good remember the Lady in daytime was a Hawke and the warrior by the night time was a wolf
And about Fenris appearance he more remind me Dante from Devil May Cry games..

The experiments may have been done for the purpose of studying mana, maybe in an attempt to create a mana battery like with Shale, or maybe it does have something to do with elven immortality (though now I'm doubting that last one). Whatever the reason, I don't think he was anything more than another elven slave before the experiments began.
What I'm curious about now is whether his memories can be restored at some point, or if they're gone for good.

I'm in agreement with SirOccam: the background we've been given is plenty or drama for one guy. Does he have to be more?

How did I not make that connection until you brought it up!? Haha. *high five for Occam's Razor*
You guys sure are generating quite the list of interesting backgrounds for other characters though. Somebody open up a Word document and develop them

@Lucy That GIF is hilarious. yeah, tension officially cleared dah dah dah the end.
@MachineMaiden I love how you made the comparison between Lady Hawke and Fenris & Hawke. That movie was so sweet, and Rutger Hauer was easy on the eyes.
@Tinxa I don't see any issue in fun speculation, provided people don't get angry if these things don't happen
@Anarya Desmond Harrington is easy on the eyes.
Just so everyone knows, I don't actively dislike ANYONE on this thread, regardless of their opinion or feelings that may or may not disagree with me.
So back to being awesome and loving this hot elf boy.

I no longer think he is Arlathan, but I believe his experiments are definitely related to them. They remind me too much of their tattoos, and the spiral designs of darkspawn taint ( - and the taint ALWAYS look a little like corrupted Arlathan statues to me.), so I'm interested to see if there maybe a connection to that.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, as I've only skimmed through a large portion of this thread, but has anyone speculated on why all elves are not tan like Fenris? Or why Fenris is when other elves are not? At least the Dalish ought to be, living outdoors as they do. It always bothered me that most of them were so incredibly pale (and the ladies wore little cheerleader outfits in the woods, but that's a different post).
The same reason all humans are not tan like Isabela.

I don't think they are redoing a story arch, but they could have used it as inspiration. I mentioned this way back in a discussion about his previous owner being in love with him, and with the lyrium and now not being able to touch and such this would probably not be the case b/c it would come too close to that already done story. I was talking about how that, while a good cliche, was still a cliche. I still don't think anyone has done it quite so well as Lady Hawke. One of my favorite movies.

@Legbamel I always assumed it was a choice made by the design team so his marks would stand out.
That makes sense.
On the same note though, they could have done pale with black markings and black hair... but that would probably look too much like the effect of corruption that you can see in some cam footage of a demo.

But wouldn't that be cool? If Hawke went the wrong path or the dark path, that Fenris' appearance would alter?
Or his veins would turn black if the Darkspawn were near?
Or his glow would pulsate to a really good synthesized techno beat?
Probably unlikely. But its a thought.

I attribute conditional-apperance-changing to anime/JRPGs waaaay too much for me to get excited about that idea, no offense XD;

I loooove that movie and it was just on tv last week
I will be soooo disappointed if DA2 doesn't have a "Ladyhawke" easter egg in it.
One of the random travel encounters (if they still have those) could be the party coming across a lady with a wolf

I concur.
There is a line for when things just become too dramatic.
It is difficult to not fall under any tropes at all, if even possible, but one too many and it gets either boring or awkward.

I'm not saying they should all be the same color. In fact, I'm asking the opposite: why are so many of the Dalish ghostly pale when they live outside? Why are there so few elves with darker skin tone?

Isabela is not tan because she's a pirate but because she's Rivaini. In Thedas, the climate is warmer and sunnier the further north you travel, and people tend to be darker than in the far south like Ferelden.
In fact, I'm asking the opposite: why are so many of the Dalish ghostly pale when they live outside? Why are there so few elves with darker skin tone?
Ferelden is akin to England or the Pacific Northwest. It's people are pale skinned both because of genetic and because it's frequently overcast.
