So I have a question.

Looking at the wiki article on Lyrium (story research XD), it says that physical contact with raw lyrium "will cause serious injury and psychological problems," and "long term exposure or a single mistake while working with it can lead to serious side effects such as emotional instability or complete psychosis. "

In regards to Fenris, I can see where the psychological problems come in, but what about the second part? Do you think having the lyrium infused under his skin will eventually drive Fen mad?

Is the lyrium under his skin actually raw lyrium, or the more refined form that mages use?  If it's the former, well, maybe.  The latter, I don't think so.  But I'm guessing the psychological problems Fenris has are actually tied to his experiences rather than the lyrium.

My theory is he does not used them, not continuously. The lyrium is already being used, as markings, on his skin. So they were no longer 'raw', and the effect already printed on his skin. Hence the lost of memory, hence the 'Kitty Pryde' specialty he demonstrated when we first met him.

My feeling is that Danarius wouldn't want to go through the trouble and expense of the ritual if Fenris was going to become useless to him in a few years due to lyrium poisoning, so personally I hypothesize that Danarius somehow magically insulated the lyrium within Fenris so it can be used but can't cross the magical barrier into his body itself.  That way Danarius gets to keep his pet for as long as he wants.

A stretch, I know, but it seems logical that he would be aware of the side effects of lyrium and would want to prevent them from occurring for his own convienence (not losing his creation to delirium and possibly having to spend the time and money to repeat the ritual with a new slave in just a few years).

(refuse to play warriors because I've always had a bad experience playing them).

Ah, I put off playing a warrior for the longest time, for similar reasons.

So I finally broke down and started my warrior PT this last week, and I'm just now entering Act 2.  Honestly, I'm loving her.  She's like no Hawke I've played before, most especially since I decided to go with an "aggressive" warrior.  She's blunt, in your face, honest and brash.  She pulled a knife on that harbor master's apprentice guy and he was utterly peeing his pants, he was so afraid; it was awesome.  It helps, too, that she and Fenris just moe down everyone in the way, too.

I will admit, though, I think my canon Hawke is always going to be a mage.  One, cause I miss Carver.  I like that boy.  But, also, because Hawke as a mage just fits the story I have in my head.  It just makes the most sense, for some reason, to me.  And I say that even after reading all the debates these past few days.

Regardless, I'm enjoying my warrior, too.  She's a bit more fun than I thought she would be, lol.

Yeah. I also miss the good old days of the DW Warrior. I tried playing a sword-and-boarder and it's just not doing it for me. 2H is my style for this game, I think, and to the void with the 'folly' of having 2 2H warriors in my group. :innocent:

Oh wow, that's awesome! It's even his profile pic!

On that topic, do you have to send him a friend request to see his posts like this? (I've never sent someone resembling a celebrity such a request before so I thought I'd ask first - what have you folks done?)

Thanks everyone, it was the most glorious moment, totally made my day.

I know there are tons of artist here are way better than me, which is why I was over the moon when Mr. Emery decided to use my sketch as avatar, even for a time.

Yay! Tank's alive again!

Never forget your art is brilliant. *Hands huge plate of steaming non-fattening virtual cookies*

@Niela Randgirls
I'm beginning to think that Fenris is simply awesome (at least in the eyes of artists)-- he has tons of fanart, he already has a plushie, and now he has a doll. All that's left is a figurine, and he's got it all covered. :D

By the end of the game he's had the markings for at least 15 years, maybe more.  I think that if his markings were going to make him sick or crazy he would have started to show signs.  My theory is that Fenris is a walking enchantment.  The lyrium is part of him like a rune.

I really, really hope that if he does show up in future games that his markings don't start causing him to deteriorate.  I want my romance to have a happy ending for once!

We already had that tearjerking fanfic with the premise of "What if he DOES get lyrium poisoning? And then some?" Please, let's not redouble the tear fest. O_O

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with the DW rogue in DA2?

I hear ya. Doing the Dark Ritual when romancing Alistair still upsets me, but I do it anyway. :crying:

I think the 'walking enchantment' theory is a good one.  In order for Fenris to actually make use of the lyrium in his markings much without them killing him from toxicity or otherwise, this would have to be the case. I wonder, though, if perhaps some kind of interference from the markings might be the reason his memory wipes don't 'stick'? (I think it's been determined that if you give Fenris back to Danarius (*shudder*), we find it's not the first time he's had his memories wiped as opposed to having traumatic amnesia?)

I peeked at Gideon Emery's page, and all I can say is aside from having a sexy voice, he seems like a really really cool person.  I bet he'd be a fun person to have a beer or three with!

I think it would be refined lyrium, if it were raw lyrium Danarius would have gone completely off his rocker after completing the marking process. From my guess, Fenris' markings might work in a manner similar to the process used to enchant weapons and armor.

I agree. has to be refined...or else with the long exposure Fenris' got, he would've been crazy by now, like that one merchant in Orzammar

Well that does make the most sense. The markings undoubtedly work to enhance physical prowess - how else would he be so very strong for an elf?

Re the lyrium markings- anyone notice that Fenris' battle cry sounds like it's half battle rage, half agony?  :(

Actually, he does. He'll do this snarling yell when he either activats Lyrium Ghost or charges into battle (not sure which since I have him ghosting by default).  I have the music turned off so I could hear party battle calls, and he does have a shout/growl when he rushes into the fray.

It's not so much, "what's wrong with DW rogue?" as what they took away from DA:O.  My favorite moments in rogue combat in Origins usually involved doing a little Dirty Fighting and then hyper-speed Coup de Grace-fueled, Momentum-enhanced backstabs.  Or kicking spiders in the balls.  Or darkspawn.  Or Loghain.  I loved stealthing into rooms, scouting ahead and disarming traps.  There's no scouting anymore.  I loathe having "Backstab" as a power, rather than as a preferred method of attack.  Also, all the DW skills that spread damage across more than one enemy are gone.
