I've also never been able to side with Peatrice with anything other than an aggressive hawke.

Ugh, I would never side with Petrice.

Watching her get an arrow in the head is always oddly satisfying.  She's one those people I always say brought it on herself.  Plus, I kinda like the Qunari.  It's weird, because I really don't agree with their philosophy.  But I appreciate the honesty with which they approach life.  You always know where you stand with them.  The Arishok says, "Our enemies attack us from the shadows because they can't face us."  That's how I think of Petrice -- an utter coward in her convictions, incapable of truly standing openly and honestly for what she believes, two-faced and sour.  She earns her fate, and I'm always glad to stand there and watch her receive it.

Speaking of which, has anyone else ever wondered how it is Qunari can really sneak around watching everything so that the Arishok just friggin' knows?  I mean, they're huge!  So how does a Qunari just step out of the shadows with a big huge bow and stick an arrow through Petrice's head?  You'd think you woulda noticed him somehow.  I bet Zevran would've noticed him, shrug.  I miss my assassin elf.

Eh I like doing it because of the "I'm gonna enjoy defeating you." speech you get between Hawke and the Arishok. It was the most epic scene in the game hands down.

I love my sarcastic Hawke. Mostly because of the line "Can't I go a week without having to fight an insane mage? Just one week?" and of course the line "Are you two going at it again? If you keep this up people will talk." When we see Meredith and Orsino in "The Last Straw"

Heh, I still pick my fave sarcastic lines, when I see them.  I love the "Can't I go one week without having to fight an insane mage" line, too.  I think it works as well with an aggressive Hawke, as a sarcastic one, honestly.  So a sarcastic response here and there makes sense, to me.

Ok, not the topic but I need experts here:

Why the 3 year gap? I am thinking of writing a Fanfiction after this semester wraps up (and by thinking of I mean obsessively already dialoging chapters even though I doubt anyone will read it when I should be doing homework) and I am stumbling all over this one issue.

I slept with you, rejected you, and then didn't talk about it for years... seems... not to work. I mean, obviously something was said in the gap and I'll fill that in - but then... he's going to bring it up later anyway and that's got a re-address issue. Plus, how do you stay friends after that - how do you keep going out on adventures after that? Hell I wasn't even Hawke and I don't think I put Fenris in my party for the remainder of the Act lol

The 3 year gap makes sense if you look at the main plot events but no sense at all from the romance perspective. It's like the writers forgot about this aspect of the plot and decided to squeeze it somwhere in hope we make the best out of it in our heads. There's just no way, fantasy or not, that two people working so close together could manage to avoid the topic for 3 years but hey, here it is and it's up to you to make it work Posted Image

For some people it's probably easier to swallow on rivalry. I guess they just avoid each other most of the time and speak as little as possible in general. Personly, Im a friendmance fan and in my head it developes to some kind of chastity relationship. Deep friendship and mutual respect. They spend a lot of time together, questing, playing cards with friends at the "Hanged Man", Hawke teaching him how to read and so on. Hawke's mothers death, definately draws them closer together. I can see some kind of reconcilation there. You can hear it in the party banter as well. There is something more between them but none of their companions knows exactly what's going on. So yeah, it leaves a lot of interpretation to our imagination. I'd really like some DLC that grabed some time "in between" but that's probably just wishfull thinking...

Dear Bioware,
Do not rush your next game release.
We are patient and willing to wait longer if it means better quality and more details in storytellingPosted Image

I personally think that 3 years is even a stretch to believe for plot reasons - I mean nothing really changes, yes meridith becomes completly mad and twisted by the idol sword (as opposed to just slightly looney at the beginning of the game), tensions rise between templars and mages but for me there is not so much change in kirjwall that it would be unbelieveable in the space of 1 year! The same goes for the first time skip imo, alot can change in 3 years - especially when you have a situation like DA2, so with basically a war brewing behind the city in 3 years I would have expected alot more development that we actually got!

I actually like DA2 but there are some aspects that are way off and to me this is one of them, it feels like bioware went 'we want to make a game that spans 10 years' and forced the story to fit in to that, when it would have made more sense for it to be a 5 maybe 6 years span!

But on the topic of Fenris and relationships in general it makes even less sense, like when Avaline comes and sees you after the deep roads time skip and says someting alone the lines you 'you have settled in well', Hawke must have been there for at least 2 years (if you take in to account how long ot would take to buy the property, move in and get it all set up) so either Aveline and Hawke havent really seen each other in that time or Aveline hasnt been to the house or the relationships part of the game is completly seperate to the storyline, in so much as the time frames of the 2 dont go together!

Anyway my rant is over, sorry, i hope that makes sense/ my spelling isnt too bad (i tend to waffle and misspell everything when I rant) and i shall go back to FF to look for FenFic to settle me lol :-D

I was thinking that a really simple way to help fill in some of those gaps would be to add entries in to the journal in Hawke's room. So every time skip you would get to see some snippets of how she interacted with everyone and saw things change. I also wanted to see Varric's creative editing and Isabella's dirty doodles (you hear about it if you click on the journal).

On the subject of the three-year gap

Cassandra: Three years?

Varric: What?

Cassandra:
The Champion and Fenris went three years without....

Varric: (sighs) It was awkward alright? We're not talking family matters awkward, we're talking Arishok dancing the remigold in the middle of the Hanged Man awkward. I could go into further detail, but I'm sure that a woman as...

Cassandra: As what?

Varric: A woman as formidible as yourself would not be interested in such things so I should continue with the tale of the Champion.

Cassandra: Very well.

I hope that Cassandra is a party member some time in the future.

Well, technically, there's nothing stopping Hawke from visiting the Blooming Rose in that time span.

I figure it's like my friend who still has unpacked boxes from moving four years ago.  Maybe Hawke takes a really long time to get all the books on the shelf?

OK, if we get all kinds of Fenris and Anders dancing, someone needs to draw the Arishok dancing the Remigold, preferably in Alistair's threatened pretty dress. *puppy eyes*

I seriously lack drawing talent, or I would. :P

I agree.  Here's how I deal with it (and this is purely head-canon, it is contrary to what is suggested in the game).  After Leandra, they reconcile.  That night, when he sat down on the bed, the natural thing DID happen, and they continued on.  However, the relationship was at a standstill -- they enjoyed each other, but there was still a barrier between them, and they never really spoke about relationships or commitment.  3 years later, when he finally kills Denarius, he is finally able to acknowledge his feelings.  The conversation they have afterwards is about him finally talking about why he ran and how much it actually did mean to him, and they're finally able to actually commit to having a future together.

I think this works better because it does feel, at least to me, a bit more natural, and you also see their relationship mature rather than stay in stasis.

of course, head canon is just that.  I know I'm wrong.  But I'm sticking with it anyway!

Edit: It helps, of course, that he's saying "I am yours" as an ambient comment from the beginning of act 3, and that two of the dialogs (one with Zevran, one with Anders) can suggest that they're back together even if you haven't done his personal quest.  So I ignore the stuff that doesn't fit and I focus on the stuff that does!

Irk I feel that way too. SO much can happen in a year alone, and so LITTLE happens in those 3 year gaps throughout the game. There's so much they could have done with it, if they wanted to.

The thing is, I can see being in a relationship for years where the future is just not discussed, where they go home to their own houses at night as often as they spend them together, and whatever feelings are there are just not acknowledged. It may not be the healthiest of relationships, but I've had enough friends in those types of situations where it's believable to me.

I cannot see waiting around for three years for a guy who dumped me after a one night stand no matter how many puppy eyes he gives me if every time I approached him to talk about it he refused to talk about it.

I actually think the 3 year time skips make no sense for a few other reasons. I just tell myself, Varric got it a bit wrong!

Who's to say that Hawke was waiting around the whole time though?  She (or he!) could have been with other men, maybe even relationships.  Doesn't mean Fenris was always there, creeping around in the back of her mind.

Hey, I'm open to suggestions! My wine education is far from complete. :o *wanders off to find a wine merchant, and then to play the game, since the hubby is getting Portal 2 tomorrow and I'll be surrendering the XBox for a bit...*

Am I weird because I have both a sarcasta-Hawke game (based on my DA:O canon warden) and a 'DiplomaticHawke' PT based on my Queen Cousland game both going?

Reisling is too sweet.  If you're going to go white, do a Pinot Grigio, it a little drier.  My fave white is Sauvignon Blanc, it's very dry and green.  For reds I like the Pinot Noir and Syrah, they're both dry, full, and oaky.
[/MelRedux Talks About Wine.]

I try my darnedest to not make my characters alike, but I find it very hard.  My canon Warden and my canon Hawke are very similar in personality.  They look the same too, but that's just because ever since games allowed you to customize your PCs, my canons have always been pale with black hair and grey eyes, and usually named Melania.

Rambling over....no, you're not weird. I find myself doing the same thing, even if I try not to.

So my Evenstar Hawke(based from a F!Amell Warden) got to Act 2, spoke to Cullen, and heard his comment about Nissa. The emotion in his voice was sooo surprising... as if he never got over her...
