Remember that god-awful-heartwrenchingly-brilliant fic on Fenris dying of lyrium poisoning?

...The author wrote a sequel. O_O

OK, that looks like it's the best it's gonna get - Thanks for the help Tanky.

I just went and read all three....*Sniffle* The Angst!!!!

Random thought, what if Cullen got with Hawke because she reminded him of WardenAmell?

... :(... :crying:!

I hate that author. They keep making me cry!

The ending makes me want to hum this though.

I'm sure its already been said a few times but...seriously could he straighten up a little bit. I like Fenris, more specifically like poking at him making pro mage comments and then flirting with him ten seconds later but he's so hunched over. This isn't even a complaint that it alters his attractiveness just...urgh stand up straight! I'm sure there's a valid reason for him being like this maybe it's better for brooding but it reminds me too much of when your character is injured in Fallout 3 and limps around pathetically hunched. That's it...burn me at the stake if you must I just needed to get that off my chest.

/feels the same.

At first I sort of liked it; I thought he looked all feral and grr-always-poised-for-a-fight and whatnot. Now it's a bit tiresome, if only for the way he cranes his neck now and then. Wouldn't that hurt after a while!? It doesn't bother me to the point of distraction, but it is a niggle.

I do love his running animation though. He looks very light on his feet.

He's a lithe elf with a sword the size of a giraffe on his back!  Of course he hunches, if he didn't he'd probably fall over backwards. Image IPB

If Hawke has sex with Merrill, Anders, or Isabela after the scene with him, he does not come back.  If there WAS that wiggle room, if you had a one night stand with one of those three and could still do the relationship with him, I'd feel a little better about those three years.  As it is, you must be faithful (blooming rose excluded -- I assume they must be a bit more discreet) or else it's over with him.

Those are mutual companions, and I could see someone who was already jumpy about a relationship not wanting to be part of a love triangle.  You can still think of Hawke seeing people casually.  She must know... somebody... besides the 6 or 7 mercenary buddies, without resorting to the Blooming Rose.  That's if people really can't see Hawke being on her own for 3 years.

But as you said, you handle the roleplay however you can make it work for you.

The problem is that Hawke doesn't get the chance to romance anyone else.  So...  Even filling in the missing years saying Hawke DID have relationships is a handwave of sort since there's nothing in the game that supports that.  The romance, as it is in the game, really doesn't make that much sense to me.  I can add things that make sense, and other people can add different things and make it a different story, but it's still adding details to change the story a bit.

That's fine.  I don't have any trouble filling in things.  I forget that not everyone does this.

And yes, Hawke gets all sorts of invitations so must know some people.  But relationships?  Not even a click on the bed reveals one!  And the only comments you get are about your companions.  Even Gamlen only comments about your companion LI.

The Blooming Rose, you can actually go there and have sex.  So that's not a handwave.

Yeah but... it's a ****house.  Eww.  lol   Again, I think we're both not bound by the game, just bothered by different things apparently.

This is a lump-in-throat ending :) I really like it, kind of romeo/juliet style.

1) As mentioned, feral posture? Like he's ready to charge or bolt and run at any moment. It suits his character.

2) Residue of slavery? Not sure if Danarius would stand for that, but if it's not a result of slavery, then his time on the run would certainly fit - attract no notice, keep the damn head down, offend nobody.

3) He's actually quite tall, for an elf. Whether for the above reason or just not liking to stand out too much (or more than he does already) in general, I can sympathise with the desire not to tower over other elves so very much.

...And I know he's tall because look at him! I snapped this when exploring the Templar ending the other day. He.. sort of snaps to attention like a soldier and says something like "Let's end this" if you click on him after talking (and getting smooched) to him. Probably the only time you'll see him stand up so straight. :P

Also this. Seriously, people! :P Don't you remember how you used to lug
around huge backpacks for school or something? Or is it just our modern
newfangled schools that make you carry so much that some kids have taken
to using actual suitcases rolled on the ground to carry them? (No joke!
O_O) At any rate, carrying something heavy on your back WILL require
you to adapt a certain posture. It's actually a kind of unexpectedly
awesome nod to realism. (Though in fairness, these swords aren't really
as heavy as they look. For someone with the muscles of a warrior, that
is.)

I like the hunched over look. I put it down as a remnant of his life as a slave, and maybe the pain of his markings. I figure characters who have been through hell should look like it. But then I kept the lava scars in ME2.

I had one of those at one stage.

True! I read an article the other day about the real weight of medieval-age broadswords and greatswords, and they were a lot lighter than most contemporary fantasy authors make them out to be. It said that even the largest two-handed swords seldomly weighed more than 3kgs. Of course, that weight can get heavy if you're swinging it around long enough, but it isn't exactly over 9000 IRL. Can't know if it's the same for Thedas, though. /rambling.

That said, I like to roleplay that his stance is because he's rather tall for an elf, as was suggested earlier. I worked it into a fic, so it's head-canon for me now. It's mostly the way he holds his neck in one of his idle animations that bugs me; it makes me want to call in Kirkwall's equivalent of a chiropractor

...That'd be some sort of healer, right? And now I'm thinking of Anders/Fenris.

Yeah, the real strain on the muscles comes from the momentum of continuously overcoming inertia by swinging the sword around - i.e. the tiring job of putting it in motion, then stopping it again, rinse and repeat - as well as maintaining proper leverage and balance with it.

I'd imagine it might even be less of an issue for Thedas. Magic and all. :P If Tolkien can have mithril - unbreakable and light as a feather - Thedas can have lighter blades. It would depend on the swordsmanship style whether that is a good thing - after all, the momentum of a heavier blade makes the blows do more damage.

Stupid offtopic question:
...How do you choose custom avatars? All I seem to be able to choose is from the standard galleries and stuff. Depressing. Or is it something you need to register more of the games to access?

If you avhe the game for PC, you can replace your character's portrait with any other png.  Just make sure its 146x146, and make it "read only".  You'll then have to play the character a bit to have it update.

Huh, well that seems unnecessarily convoluted. :P

Thanks for the answer!

...So.... I suspect this is just an in joke from the early pre-release days of leaked screenshots and frantic scrabbling for information, but I have to ask.

..Why "MEG"?
