Those statues, statues you came across throughout the games, they all speak English, weren't they? And they suppose to live at the time of the Tevinter empire. So...

We'll i don't really see a reason for him to speak Tevinterish.  Since he is a slave he can be from anywhere, including Ferelden. I am sure the magisters didn't spend time teaching him to talk their language, they just jumped to putting him to work and testing things on him.

But how will Hawke understand the language from the Free Marches? Hmm...a dev should pop in and explain i guess...they know better. Interesting idea anyway

I also suggested there was probably a common language when we discussed if we thought Fenris was illiterate or not. Otherwise, shouldn't have a character like Zevran have been speaking Antivan? Or, in Leliana's Song (DLC), a majority of the characters spoke Orlesian?

Really? You don't get speculation and theories in a fan thread? You don't understand why the limited information provided isn't enough to satiate my curiousity? You don't understand why I would speculate that he is Arlathan? As far as I know, according to DA lore, we have only learned of 2 periods of elven history, the Dales and Arlathan. Given the dynamic between Tevinter and elves, I think its reasonable to speculate that if Fenris is confirmed as not Dalish, then he might be Arlathan. Given that we know Arlathan elves are ancient, this would imply some form of magic.

No offense, but if you are satisfied with "living weapon" then by all means, be satisified. But there is no need to dismiss or stifle other peoples speculation. It is done out of fun and curiousity.

Lastly, and this isn't meant to be a jab at DG, bc my criticism thus far is based on the very limited info we have. But yeah, "living weapon" isn't good enough for me. Why? Because as soon as I heard about the lyrium and "living weapon" I immediately associated the Lyrium veins with Biotics and the "Living weapon" with Subject Zero. I find that very boring, so yes, I would like more. As for werewolves, I never made any mention of them and I have no interest in them other than Witherfang.

Oh I get speculation and theories in a fanthread. I just don't get revealing what he is (ex slave, lyrium skin, living weapon...) and people STILL insisting he must be Fen'harel reborn/alien/werewolf/arlathan whatever.
I have no idea what your particular theory was so don't take it personally. My comment was aimed generally at imo improbable and outlandish speculation.
I'm not trying to stifle anyone and have no way of knowing how seriously people take their theories but as far as I know I'm allowed to post a different opinion about the various theories.

Yea but the statues were in Ferelden at the time, so it's possible that it was written for the Ferelden people, not for the Tevinters. So it would be in the Ferelden language...

As for the language, umm... I suppose there is a common tongue (that being English) that everyone in Thedas can speak, though different nations have different accents. Don't know if they have separate national languages though.
But methinks Fen will speak English... with a Welsh accent (didn't elves have a Welsh one)?  O_O do you know any Welsh voice actors?
