Hoping someone could please give me a little help? I'm going to be rather upset if I have to start all over. D;

Ack that must be frustrating :(  I really can't think what might have gone wrong unless you flirted with someone else / slept with them first?

Most definitely did not sleep with anybody else, though I may have flirted with them without thinking about it. Would that be it? I thought the no-flirting-with-anybody was Sebastian's romance only, but it would make sense. If that's it, then man, I feel like an idiot.

I don't think it's that you can't flirt with anyone else ever but you have to be careful about how much you flirt and when. I think, but I'm not sure. After you officially "begin" the romance, which can only happen after his personal quest and his questioning belief conversation have both been completed, if you sleep with someone else it will end any hope of getting/staying with Fenris. I don't know if flirting has the same effect.

It worried me to see so many people having problems, but I have romanced him over several playthroughs and never encountered an issue. I wonder what's going wrong for everyone. :?

Awww, don't feel like an idiot! *hugs*  A lot of people seem to be having this problem. Saying that, I've done 6 PTs and I've yet to have the problem. I rarely flirt with anyone until after Fenris' questioning beliefs and Bitter Pill. The only time I've risked it was to sleep with Isabela and then tell her it was just a fling and his romance worked ok after that.
I'd suggest going back to an earlier save, rushing through Bitter Pill and seeing if it changes anything.

Also, I've done the Sebastian flirts while involved with Fenris - the guide is misleading in saying you can't flirt with anyone else for his romance.

I think "when" is the key word here as some of the flirt lines may sett up the romance flag. Unfortunatelly I don't have much expirience with romacing other companions so I can't tell which one would it be. From what i read on forums from other people having problems romancing Fenris thoug is that Isabela is quite tricky (maybe buged for some) She can break your romance with others even if you don't sleep with her. Think someone mentioned that if you tell her  you would sail with her could be enough. I personly stay away from flirting with anyone when I romance Fenris just to be on the safe side. I flirted with everyone and slept with Issy when romanced Anders and it went well so I guess Fenris is just picky that way. Then again I've heard people having slept with everyone else before making a move on Fenris and still managed to trigger the romance so it has to have something to do with when you flirt or what the flirt line implies.

In my experience flirting with other companions in Act 1 is harmless, but you have to be careful in Act 2. I´ve flirtet with Isabella once in Act 2 and it totally broke Fenris´ romance - thankfully, I haven´t gotten far into this Act so I could still salvage things due to the autosave at the beginning of every act.
After initiating a romance with Fenris (doing his questioning beliefs) I could flirt with others without repercussions, but I guess it is the  savest way to just avoid flirting with others...

Can't it play out where he leaves, but then comes back later if you go to your mansion at night? Have you tried that?

Isabela's such a playa, she breaks romances just by being in the room. :P

Incidentally, I love it that, in Fenris's romance, he never says the "L" word. Maybe it's because I generally have issues trying to put strong feelings into words, but I can't imagine (or remember) a character making a dramatic declaration of love without it sounding cheap or awkward. Maybe it's because, to me, an actual declaration of love makes it sound like the communication between the two is so stunted that the feeling needs to be vocalised for things to advance further. It just comes off as... insecure, like the two people are actually only in the early stages, i.e. the stages where it would actually be hasty to talk about love, and are trying to propel the relationship forward by pretending that it's more advanced than it is. And if the declaration comes immediately preceding or after sex, what knowledge I have of biochemistry makes it very difficult for me to take it seriously. Am I making any sense?

It's why I find I prefer Zev's romance in Origins and Fen's romance in DA2. The mutual care and affection and loyalty become so obvious (to the viewers as well as the participants) that, by the time a declaration of love would be warranted, it's not needed.

LOL. She was the first person I talked to in Act 2 in one of my PTs. I was trying to get her Friendship up, so I flirted with her one time (!!) and the next thing I know Fenris is giving me the "friend speech." I ended up replaying like 2 hours worth. <_<

Urg, bearing in mind it has been a bit since I did that,

He raises a toast to Hawke tells you you're the finest mage he knows, rather than that you're an amazing man/woman who tempts him mightily, as it is if you follow the romance line (as I recall). Also later, he shuts you down pretty firmly and says that ending the flirtation is for the best. He doesn't ever say somethng like "I'm just not into you, let's just be friends," (sorry if I gave that impression), but he does make it quite clear he isn't interested any longer.

Must be a mage thing. My rogue!Hawke did the "It might mean more than that" flirt, and afterwards, he toasted "To the fallen", and the romance proceeded without a hitch.

I thought I'd drop by since this is the place to gush about things Fenris related.
I started playing my MageHawke, intending to rivalmance the hell out of Fenris, when, during battle I paused the game and found them in the most adorable battle pose:

Posted Image

My Hawke and Fenris being Back to Back Badasses
I did not do this on purpose at all, my Mage Hawke uses Cone of Cold a lot and it gets him in the thick of battle... right next to Fenris. I was convinced this must be some rare moment and took a while to squee.... then they kept doing it.
A while ago I started over (I'm a bit meticulous and wanted to max out relationships while in act 1 that I missed due to my habit of having one set party all the time). I was sad I'd loose that moment... only to have this happen as soon as I get into Danarius' mansion:

Posted Image

Hawke! This is not the time nor the place to be trying to cop a feel of Dat Ass!
Then it was right back to back-to-back fighting and then finished the battle holding hands... the hell? I did not plan this! I swear!
Needless to say this Hawke will not be romancing anyone other then his favourite broody elf.

I got that too. When it came to the "Don't go." option, he said "I think it would be better if I did" I was like WHA?! O_O cause after 3 pt, that never happened. Turns out my one flirty time with Izzy caused it. I had to reload and go back to my house before Bitter Pill and refuse her 'girly fun' <_<

The order I find works best in Act II is first develop the relationship with Isabela. I get her friendship way up (easy with the flirts/ Wayward Son/QB ) then she shows up the house and I break it off (or you can sleep with her and then break it off right away - she is cool either way). Then do Fenris QB and Bitter Pill. After that you can flirt with Sebastian and initiate a romance with Anders which you can break off when he shows up at your house. Then onto waiting for Act III...

I have done this order with both friendship and rivalry rogue/mage and it works. I never romanced Merrill so I do not know how she would fit in, but I think if you romance her and then break up before BP/QB it should be OK.

Booo. ;___; Well, thanks for the clarification, everybody. I appreciate it - perhaps I'll try going back to the beginning of Act 2 and seeing if I can salvage something. And not flirt with anybody else, haha. I guess Fenris just doesn't like me... This is the second playthrough where I've been unable to romance him. :P

Which scene do you want? Glowy kiss only happens when you don't sleep/flirt with anyone else prior to Fenris. Since I rival him most of the time, I flirt on purpose with other characters to get the second version of his kiss. I don't care for his expression (he won't look at you) for the glowing kiss rival version, and much prefer when he leaves after Bitter Pill, then comes back when Hawke comes home at night.

Are you visiting your house at night? That's when all the companions "drop by" for some romance time if you've flirted with them.

Oh, and I've slept with Isabela and still got Fenris to pounce on me at the mansion. Fun times.

I had a different reaction.  I felt he was using Hawke's feelings to manipulate her.  The relationship goes from first kiss to sexytime to him asking to move in in less than 24 hours. A guy saying, "I love you baby.  For years I have loved you!" and then, as soon as Hawke says they love him, you get him, "Oooh, baby, btw, I kinda need a new place to stay.  Can I move in with you?"  And your choice is let him move in, or break up.

I seriously felt used and manipulated.  He was great when it came to comforting Hawke, though, but then act 3 came and the manipulation was far, far worse.

Just ick.

Well said.  My initial PT, I started with a flirt with Anders and got the "I'll only hurt you in the end" line, and it was so pitiable.  I friended him that PT, the only time I ever have since I've rivaled him ever since, and I swear it felt like my Hawke was being yanked around at every turn.  And that was just being friends with him.  I've tried romancing him in several PT since then and I just can't bring myself to complete it.  I always feel like Hawke is nothing to Anders but a tool, a pitiful and sad tool, and it's a nasty feeling, totally turns me off.

It's why I generally stick with romancing the elf.  With Fenris, I feel Hawke is precious, in and of herself, independent of what she does for him.  It's not that she isn't doing for him, either.  But it's a sense he's not so much dependent on Hawke as Anders is.  For Fenris, Hawke is a real friend and then a lover, she's cherished for WHO she is even more than for WHAT she gives him.

Not true. Which type of kiss you get depends on wether or not you try to stop him from leaving when he comes to appologize. If you choose "you don't have to leave Fenris" (heart option) you get the glowy kiss. If you choose any other option he will leave and the second version triggers, where he will come back next time you visit your mantion at night. It works the same way for both friend and rivalmance. The only difference is facial expressions and his comment "after sexytime"

At least Fenris didn't take Varric's ideas for romantic dialogue.

Fenris: I am yours.

Hawke: You know I never get tired of hearing you say that.

Fenris: That is good, the ideas that Varric had were not exactly endearing.

Hawke: Why's that?

Fenris: It is a long story.

The Hanged Man

Varric: How about "I would drown us in blood just to keep you safe"?

Fenris: That sounds like something that you'd write.

Varric: Yeah, I'll admit it's a bit too sappy for my taste. Heh, I'd hate to be the poor bastard who ever tries that one.

Anders: (sighs)

Absolutely perfect!
