As for the language, umm... I suppose there is a common tongue (that being English) that everyone in Thedas can speak, though different nations have different accents. Don't know if they have separate national languages though.
But methinks Fen will speak English... with a Welsh accent (didn't elves have a Welsh one)?  O_O do you know any Welsh voice actors?

There is a table over there for the other foods! *Points at the wonderful table with cookies and brownies on it*

*Sniff* My poor, poor exiled foods...

And only the Dalish elves are to have a Welsh accent. City are supposed to be American.

The Tervinter bloodmage the PC runs into in the Alienage didn't have much of an accent; it must have been English or American. Then again, who knows with DA2? Maybe Fenris will have an accent we haven't encountered yet.

Well, he's been confirmed as not Dalish, so yup, yup, yup!

I don't want americans to throw things at me (maybe brownies or muffins ^^"") but i think their accent is not really good for a dark fantasy type game. I do see them in sci-fi games like Mass Effect tho. It's just too..modern..

It might be amusing if he had a British upper class/posh accent x) But I suppose that won't happen.

It'd be easier to speculate on the VA if we knew his accent :/ ah well. Hopefully we'll soon get a video clip or something with a small teeny bit of Fen speaking (like we heard Izzy already) o,..,o rawr.

I feel hated. *Goes and cries in a corner*

I don't sound too modern. But that's because I'm a freak of nature and use supposedly "old, outdated" words (when the hell did the word "Fey" become a outdated word?)

Heh, don't forget Canadians! I don't really mind accents of any sort, what bugs me is how accents are based on race rather than region. Why does a dwarf born and raised on the surface have a vastly different accent from all the people around them? I don't really understand how it works in the game. I guess alienage elves could be written off as their relative isolation from the rest of the city, but would the accents be so different then? IDK. I'm not a lingust or anything but the distribution of accents seems strange.

@yukidama, the whole BW HQ is in Canada, of course we won't forget about Canadians!

I think they cast most of the minor VA without worry about their accent much. Just me saying.

I'm not American :D does it mean I'm allowed to throw more stuff?

It seems I don't have my accent-facts straight so I won't comment on it anymore :x

But dudettes, I think I read somewhere that Fen's tattoos (or the whole body? Can't remember properly) hurts if someone touches him, soooo... what would you think of a no-touchy-feely romance? o,...,o methinks that'd be a rather interesting situation thingaling.

That fact was stated by Ser David himself!

Yeah.

Haha, I know. I was just mentioning that because a lot of the "American" accents are Canadian xD

No, I think they take accents into consideration even for minor characters. Even if it's for atmosphere, they'd pick out actors that have appropriate accents for the region the minor NPCs are in. But what I mean is that it's strange for a character to not have the accent of the place they were born and raised in, but rather the accent of the culture/race they're from. It's like if someone born in the US and raised there had an English accent because their great-grandfather did and their family was from England at some point in the past. Just strikes me as weird that accents are determined by the character's race.

*Remembers the mention of the cute, gushy romance in Pushing Daisies where the couple couldn't touch otherwise the girl would literally drop dead*

No noo i didn't say i hate em! :crying:And there is a whole variety of them i presume. Maybe the ones in movies sound modern (those are the only ones i ever heard). At school i learned british english so that might have an influence as well...

Aww, I haven't watched Pushing Daisies...

O.O Ser David said it? Woah, then it must certainly be true. But...duh, doesn't fighting and even... walking and wearing clothes hurt poor Fen all the time? x_X

We thought that maybe only flesh hurts him, not the sword and weapons?

I was reading PC gamer now, it seems that DA2 is one of the most anticipated games (it's on the 5th place). And the rogue got a pretty good review. Too bad i wanna be a mage ^^"" For at least 2 playthroughs. Or 3...

No joys of the flesh for poor Fen? :crying: How cruel is that, having to do with... pieces of cold metal and stuff.
I've been anticipating DA2 ever since I finished Origins :D I feel kinda lucky that we've only had to wait for a year or so (instead of several).
I'mma pick a warrior and I thought I'd go with the default face... but... now I wanna see if there's a slightly different hairstyle available. That ofc means I'll have to create the whole face too since you can't tweak the presets. Ah well.

T-T I feel so bad for Carver already. Waah.

Anyhow, to avoid rolling down the off-topic hill, I wonder if I'll have to make Hawke the main tank since it seems Fen's a two-hander and I need probably at least one mage to tag along, and a rogue to open locks so I don't have room for Aveline x_X derp. Unless we get Fen rather early and I can plant the shield on him :D

Concerning the language discussion, I'm hoping they'll just throw an explanation on it and let everyone speak English. For instance, perhaps English is the trevinter language and they forced it on the rest of Thedas before their fall?

I theorized it was like a sunburn. It always slightly hurts, but is only really painful when pressure is put on, so he is always slightly in pain, but it becomes more acute when another's skin is involved...

ankuu- don't feel bad, I am american and I hate hearing out accents in any kind of peace that is similar to a time before the 1600ds. Even after that depending where it is it bothers me sometimes.

Sith Grey Warden, due to the accents and descriptions I always just sort of imagined it an alternate universe where things are different but similar to how our own world was. The Fereldens are english, the Orlesians are french, and the Anivans are spanish. But that is completelly my own mind trying to put the lands together, I could be completelly off.

I wonder if Fenris' appearance was modeled after any one in particular? IMO, Bioware characters tend to be better or more unique looking if they are modeled after a real life person (thinking of Miranda and The Illusive Man, etc).

Just saying because Fenris looks great compared to most of the elves we saw in DAO.

That reminds me, why don't they ever tell us who the guys' faces are modeled after? We always find out who the female models are designed from (Ashley, Miranda). Kaidan and TIM and and Zaeed look like they're modeled after people too. Once a guy captured a screenshot of Zaeed's actor (he was an extra on some show) but I've never seen the others.

And Fenris does look great. Most of the elves in DA:O were ugly/odd looking, IMO. It's been so long since I've played the unmodded game though. I went into the toolset and made a lot of the elves (especially the ones that stand around as scenery) prettier to better reflect how they're meant to be perceived by humans.

'Twould be nice to know who the male characters were modeled after, it they were modeled after anyone (which several of them do).

Also *lurks in the corner of envy at the idea of pretty DA:O elves*.

Good thing for you then that most accents in BioWare games are/sound Canadian. Posted Image

I know that to someone the differences might not be very discernable, but it sticks out very noticeably to me. There were a lot of Canadian Dalish/city elves in DA:O.

The American English accents are as close to what was spoken in the past, as the British ones, in some ways even closer. I do not understand where the preference for British accents comes from in fantasy though.

I believe Fenris is probably local enough, to speak the same language as Hawke does. It is probably an interesting story, how he exactly got to Tevinter. Or perhaps the languages are the same or he picked it up recently and we have a companion to tell us about life in the Imperium.

The brands might not hurt Fenris physically, burns like that do heal after a while. Pehaps its the lyrium itself that causes Fenris pain, it is attuned to the Fade, and as such the various creatures of that realm could be naturally attracted to the elf.

This isn't so bad because due to his aloof personallity Fenris is mostly left alone by the various spirits and demons from the Fade. But when someone (like Hawke) get too close, the lyrium picks up on that person's emotions and essentially broadcasts it out into the Fade. Depending on the intensity of said emotions, the Fade critters could sort of flock to Fenris.

The end result might be akin to This

I think I have to be one of the only people in the world who plays DAO unmodded (on the PC). Mods have always just felt weird to me, I don't think I'd ever want to use them, even if they allowed me to have 5 companions on the battlefield. I always prefer the original experience.

One things for sure, I'd never want to mod someone like Fenris' appearance. He looks perfect as is IMO. And I cringe whenever I see mods that give Leliana or Morrigan anime girl faces. I know there are some talented modders out there, and I respect for them and the people who enjoy using mods, but it just isn't for me personally. Just my opinion.

As for Fen being modelled on someone, I hope not. I'd prefer he was just an original creation (wasn't Jack from ME2 that way?).
