He's aloof?

He's been described as stoic, which to me has two possible meanings that are somewhat close to each other. Traditional and current. Personally, I'd be more interested in the former - but they're both intriguing.

A quote from a stoic that may or may not apply:

Seneca exhorted, "Kindly remember that he whom you call your slave sprang from the same stock, is smiled upon by the same skies, and on equal terms with yourself breathes, lives, and dies.

This would explain the brooding expression. Poor Fen.

I wonder if we'll get the LI confirmations next month... It'd be relieving to officially hear that Fen will be romanceable (c'mon, he HAS to be. Or else.... I'll weep :crying:)

Oh, sure. I see how it is. Total gender discrimination, but that's cool. No boys allowed. I get it.

I believe Fenris is probably local enough, to speak the same language as Hawke does. It is probably an interesting story, how he exactly got to Tevinter. Or perhaps the languages are the same or he picked it up recently and we have a companion to tell us about life in the Imperium.

I agree, I'm sure he speaks English (or whatever the DA equivalent is called), but maybe he has an accent that reflects whatever language is spoken in Tevinter. I don't know what it would be, but I just love accents in general. We've already got some major ones: Spanish, French, whatever Cassandra's is (Russian?)...it'd be cool to have a New Zealand accent in the game somewhere. Or South African; if I'm not mistaken, Donovan Hock had one in the Kasumi DLC for ME2.

I think I have to be one of the only people in the world who plays DAO unmodded (on the PC). Mods have always just felt weird to me, I don't think I'd ever want to use them, even if they allowed me to have 5 companions on the battlefield. I always prefer the original experience.

One things for sure, I'd never want to mod someone like Fenris' appearance. He looks perfect as is IMO. And I cringe whenever I see mods that give Leliana or Morrigan anime girl faces. I know there are some talented modders out there, and I respect for them and the people who enjoy using mods, but it just isn't for me personally. Just my opinion.

I use mods, but I'm with you; I never change anyone's default appearance. Well no one important anyway. There was a nice mod for Awakening that was sort of a beautification patch...a lot of extras and minor characters were seriously fugly in that expansion. Distractingly so.

Ah! Same here!

I once got that Sacred Ashes CG face change mod... but I uninstalled it about 15 mins into the game. I can't see Morrigan, Leliana or Sten with anything but their original vanilla faces. I like them too much.

Me too.  I don't think I'll do much, or any mods come DA2.  Fenris, Isabela, Varric and others will remain unchanged in my play-throughs.

Like the only mod I did for ME2 was for minerals.  That's it.

I support Universal Fenris Fever - Fanboys and Fangirls united by a Tevinter slave...
Anyway, I have decided that March 8, 2011 cannot arrive fast enough. Curiosity is really getting to me.

I drove past the bioware building yesterday in Edmonton on my way to family, but I figured that no ammount of begging and crying would get any information.

Maybe if I left a cup full of my tears at the front door Gaider would suddenly feel inspired to confirm Fenris as a LI and not break a bazillion of our hopes and dreams. :(

Hae guys/girls (people) what language do you think Fenris speaks? Cause if he speaks Tevinter how will Hawke&co. understand him?

Hawke and her family speak Ferelden (english equiv), which may or may not be the language in the Free Marshes (which I think is the German equiv) . However, as soon as Hawke and family get to Kirkwall, there's a time skip of a year, so they might pick up basic 'Free March' and a smattering of Orlesian.

Fenris, alternatively, might already know several languages.

Well for story telling purposes they obviously have to speak the same language. I know ME got around that with translators, but I doubt there will be a magic equivalent in dragon age. I wonder what accent Fenris would have (if any) for the dalish have a unique accent to themselves, but he is not dalish. He will probablly be another Zevran in the sense that he has a random accent not many others seem to have.

Oh man imagine not knowing where you're from and then discovering you can speak several languages fluently. That'd be extra confusing. Amnesia is such a fun trope to play with.

As long as we don't get a "Oh my! It seems I have incredible abilities/information that I have just remembered!" then that would be fairly fun.

Depending on Fenris' past, permanent amnesia could be interesting. Build a new life while getting screwed by past events you didn't know existed. I know this was mentioned earlier about the "Help me get my memory back!" story line. I don't speak for the majority of the people, but the despair (or elation) of never getting your life back could be a very good driver for a companion story. But I'm guessing his story is already finished (If it isn't hurry up! :P) so we'll just have to wait and see.

Those statues, statues you came across throughout the games, they all speak English, weren't they? And they suppose to live at the time of the Tevinter empire. So...

Not sure what statues you're talking about. The Avar statues in Awakening where one was peace loving and the other loved war?

1) The Avar are one of the tribes of Ferelden, so their native tongue is likely related to that of Ferelden. Tevinter is a latinate possible precursor to English.

2) I assume that if a spirit has enough magic to make a statue talk, they have enough to make the statue talk in a language understandable by others.

One of the previews. A dev then commented afterwards that after the time skip, Hawke would act like he/she knew various new NPCs, but there would be context to their interaction.

It has been a while since I played but, if I recall correctly, in the mage origin you get to talk to a Tevinter statue in the basement of the Circle Tower (and then again in Witch Hunt).

YES, I mentioned this earlier and for some reason they didn't think this was revelent.

Nah, I don't think it's irrelevant. It's what made me think that there probably IS a common language that everyone can speak (A.K.A. English). Otherwise, like I said, characters like Zevran, Leliana (in Leliana's Song), Marjolaine, and the other foreign characters would be unable to be understood.

Ala Lord of the Rings and Westron (its common language). That makes sense, and the different accents would be either regional, racial, or foriegn accents while speaking either the common tongue or Fereldian (is that how I would say that?)

EDIT: THE TOP PART IS A QUOTE.

Would you guys be disappointed if Fenris is not a LI?

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed. I'm pretty new here and I tried going through the prev pages... but there are so many! I might have missed it.
