Long time lurker coming into the party late *god how many pages in this thread?! I only read a few hundred before giving up |D*

Recently bought DA2 last week and was planning on romancing Anders (since I liked him in Awakening), but dammit, as soon as Fenris sauntered onto the screen with Balthier's voice *A* I was gone. Goddamn that sexy voice. I romanced him first so now I'm having trouble tearing myself away to romance someone else for my third playthrough. I suppose I'll romance him again, but change to Anders after he flees for the hills after Bitter Pill =3=

But yeah. So, a new fengirl |D

(btw, is it just me, or do the new Darkspawn designs in DA2 remind you of Power Ranger villians? I couldn't take the Deep Road fights seriously without thinking of M!Hawke as Red Ranger *is bricked*)

I'm a female mage and this is my first time playing any dragon age game (my hubby's), and I wanted to romance Fenris, couldn't seem to get him out of rival for anything, and then after the bedroom scene he broke up with me, so I thought it was a loss. but I'm happy to say that after killing the assasin's guild that was after the assasin, when the blonde elf assasin guy asked if I wanted to join him for more (can't remember exact words), Fenris was in my group and I didn't get to respond because Fenris jumped in and told him it looked like he had just ran out of luck, inferring he would kill the assasin. So looks like we aren't broke up after all! And he is out of rival now.

WOW the artwork is so droolworthy! I feel like sandal but in a good way.. er something like that.
@Surrealsadi OOO so the deep voice is like eating chocolate and having sex !! omg no wonder im totally sold on Fenris!!! *squee*
@KivaEMber LOL I never thought of it that way but I dont really care for hte new Darkspawn look, they look to ... cartoonish .. hehe now we will have to assign colors to the other team members too for Power rangers! Hawke is definately red tho, the leader right? lol [*sigh* my favorite was always the old school green one Tommy] lol
@ Aleforge  you can  romance  Fenris  in rivalry too.   He  has  some different  lines and  says them  differently  [  I  feel more   angrily others  call it  passionately]    I preferred the  friendmanship  but   with  Fenris   its  fun to  experiment on both  paths. hehe  or just  experiment  gosh Im in  a  mood today! lol

I keep wanting to say Fenris will be Blue Ranger, but then I remember that Blue Ranger was a super nerd, glasses and all |D *giggles*

I wish I could play DA2 for the first time again... and you can romance Fenris on a rivalry path as well. I always go back and forth which one I like more (with rivalry winning by a small margin right now).

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed out though. I feel like I didn't get enough interaction with him. I also, being new to DA was learning game play and everything at once. I didn't realize I would get more interactions going there at night either. Wish they had a Fenris tee

I think that's one thing I really missed from Origins, all the "I want to get to know you better based on where our friendship/romance is." questions and conversations. I just didn't feel too much of a connection with DA2. Even though it was all written beautifully; It felt like a rushed 7-10 years. :-/
@Aleforge: a cool idea would be a Fenris thermal; a long sleeved shirt with all his markings on it <3 either that or a black tee with the lyrium ghost symbol on it...think about it Bioware....please. :-D

I hate to bear not-so-great news, but not only can you romance him on either rivalry or friendship, but you're going to need to max your relationship in one direction or the other to actually properly get back together with him and continue the romance.   You might still be able to do it, not sure how much you've done in Act III, so good luck!  Remember that supporting mages and blood magic earns his rivalry, supporting Templars/the Circle/being anti-blood magic earns his friendship, and have at!

(Also, hi everyone, I r lurker.  Or was.  Not so much now I guess. XD)

Yeah, I felt like the pacing in the game was really...weird.And rushed. "OH YOU JUST CRAWLED OUT OF THE DEEP ROADS AND YOUR SIBLING IS DEAD/WARDEN'D/TEMPLAR'D/CIRCLE'D NOW WE WILL FADE TO BLACK AND YOU WILL NOW BE THREE YEARS OLDER AND OWNER OF A MANSION." Totally threw you for the loop.

I'm hoping that DLC will fill in the blanks in the skips like in the Assassin's Creed games > >;;

And a loud YES PLEASE to the Fenris shirt <3

Welcome Delurkers btw! Im happy I came out a bit ago, these peeps all fun to chat too! I like the peeps Head cannons that explain the 3 years as being very busy actively with Kirkwall events, Mums passing, and of course all the teaching of reading and interaction, altho It may be platonic I think the spark was always there, so Idk I figure my Hawke had to much crap on the fan to really want another realtionship, and there is always the bLooming rose for the quick satisfaction. I have never done this but I have heard it does not effect the romance? Sides see that shirtless Fen Pic by Jhourney?? OOO ya I'd wait in line for sum of that!

It's my personnal head-cannon that my Mage!Hawke had a rebound fling with Anders sometime during the three year gap after getting more involved in Mage Freedom! now that he doesn't have family to worry about ... it most likely ended awkwardly because Hawke just couldn't move on from Fenris when he's living just around the block and going with him to beat up slavers/bandits/etc and Anders getting fed up of being the replacement goldfish for Fenris of all people.

oh the drama

My warrior Hawke DID have a quick re-bound with Anders, but realized who she really wanted when he came over and started bad mouthing Fenris and her relationship with him. Then her mom died and she became champion and.. there was just no time to dwell on it. I've had similar real life instances where I went several years without a relationship. I just had no time or energy to invest in one.
(side-note: I'm still bothered that any rivalry you have with Anders means you're anti-mage and pro templar, even though my Hawke was only anti ANDERS CRAZYNESS and possession and bloodmagic until act three)

Question: does it seem likely that either path will lead to Fenris letting go of his misplaced mage hatred?

Yeah, that annoyed me as well, because it wasn't the case at all (being as I usually play a mage). But I figured that he was so radical in his beliefs that if you weren't with him 100%, then you were automatically 100% against him and his cause. Basically, I figured the rivalry path with Anders was about his perception of you (and I guess that is so with all the companions), rather than the actual reality of the situation.. and his perception is pretty skewed at the end. But I still felt bad. He takes 100% rivalry pretty hard (unlike any other companion, really).

You really can't get very much rivalry with Anders unless you're anti-mage. I think it's an issue with the dialogue assuming things from the full path rather than a partial one.

Yes and no.  Does that make sense?

My opinion and I know that this opinion is not a popular one, is that on the friendship path his  bitterness is somewhat validated.  The statement, "if I seem bitter it's not without cause."  He still wants to move on with his life, but the admonition that in some ways, his bitterness being the cause of it doesn't show up.

This subtle difference in dialogue is what gives the slight edge to rivalry for me as he do  the lines "what I have done, I have done to myself" and he specifically says that perhaps it's time to let go of that bitterness where he says perhaps it's time to move on on the friendship path.  People like to say that it's essentially the same thing and I'm of the opinion that it's not.

Still, Fenris will continue to be suspicious of mages on either path (at least that's what I think), I think what rivalry does is it makes him more self-reflective of his role in his unhappiness and it gives him the opportunity to relinquish some of the anger.
EDIT: Grammar fail.  Sorry if this is incoherent.  I'm a little sick.

When he said "you let your own sister be sent to the circle" I wish there had been an angry response option, because that was so far from the case with my Hawke who's fiercely protective of Bethany, to the point of trying to get into the good graces of templars and seeing her/watching over her again (at leasgt i'm roleplaying as such)
But I also wish there was a more emotional option for when you meet up with Bethany again during demands of the Qun rather than "oh...hey sis" so there you go.

Am working on Rivalry-Friendship with Anders at the moment, it's really really hard, given I am all pro mage and such. There are several missions which I consider I just can't do. In those case, I ended up have to take others with me instead of my all time favourite team.

Let's hope they fix the Anders rival ending bug in the next patch.

EDIT:

>_>

<_<

I will leave this one here.
