How did you manage it?  I would've abandoned the entire PT right then and there, just plain started over from step one.  I can't even watch the Youtube vids showing Fenris being killed like that. You're a strong strong woman.

I'm persistent and stubborn, and it was RIGHT before the final battle, so I didn't really have a reason to stop. I did make sure I had a save right before the 'encounter' to see if I could get him to come to my side. He would't. Posted Image
He was just being stubborn that playthrough. Got too many times of
+5 friendship!
followed by +10 rivalry. Just didn't work in the end. I wandered around for the longest time trying to get him far enough over. Didn't work. Since that playthrough I've downloaded Seb, so I might go reload a save from before "last straw", see if any Seb quests trigger more points for Fenris. Posted Image

I told my husband with a shocked voice, "He just grabbed her!"  That's what it felt like to me, like Anders only saw something he wanted, something to have, something to take and use.  The key word being "something".  I have never gotten the real sense that Anders actually cared about Hawke, anyway.  More like Hawke was, to him, an object or thing to be had and enjoyed and used.  I don't know, maybe it's just me, I just can't help feeling that way, when you have Anders constantly going on and on about manifestos and causes and revolutions; Hawke just seems so secondary and minimal in his considerations, until there's nothing there but manipulation and coercion.  It's not love, it's using.

It feels completely different where Fenris is concerned.  He seems to regard Hawke as some sort of incredible gift.  Every kind word, every laughing comment, every bit of respect that Hawke offers is met by Fenris with a sort of awe and incredulity.  I always get the feeling Fenris regards Hawke as remarkable and precious, far above and beyond anything else, until Hawke becomes his whole world, that he'd give anything and everything up just for her.  The world explodes around them and there's Fenris, mage or templar, doesn't matter, it's only whatever Hawke needs, he'll be there for her.

I can see Fenris quite easily dying for Hawke, no questions asked, if need be; Anders would stop long enough to ask how many mages the sacrifice would save, first.

Hey, Tealsie, is it okay if I grab your "puppy eyes" siggie? I love it!

And I still think you're a stronger woman than I am. I simply...can't...ever...kill...that...elf.

Of course! I didn't actually make it... and can't remember who did make it. Posted Image some spiffy, wonderful person on here...

I was heartbroken. Posted Image Also kept looking at Anders, thinking "you're so not worth this. sonotworththis."
And terrible person that I am, I "made it up to" Fenris by drawing this: http://evelyn-hope.d...ng-it-205306468
...I think he was quite pissed with me those days. Posted Image I kinda deserved it. I still haven't worked up the courage to hand him over to Danarius. I don't think I'll ever be able to(partially because it seems to be out of character for ALL of my characters... which works for me Posted Image).

Love your artwork!

I haven't even watched the Youtubes of Fenris being turned over to Danarius.  Can't.  Heck, I got upset when I saw some peeps boasting about turning him over in some of the other threads.  And ever since I just heard it described how Anders approves of the move, I dislike the mage that much more.

It's the puppy eyes, I swear it.

I'm so pathetic I have Fenris rivalry path and friendship path down to a science. I NEVER didn't have enough to max him out one way or the other. There is just no way I could kill him. That scene breaks my heart especially as a mage hawke. How he is all like "I should have known, first rule of survival." It's just so horrible... I could only watch it on youtube and think how awful it would be to actually see in game. I would reload a save and follow the rivalry/friendship guide on dragon age wiki. Do the quests that give the most points either one way or the other.

I usually have him far in one direction or the other by end of act 1 and max him out during act 2.

As for giving back to Danarius, well... I watched it on youtube once, and I was utterly disgusted and heartbroken. That is F'ed up no matter what kind of Hawke you play. Anders' reaction too... I knifed him for that reaction (even though he never did it in my playthrough). Murder knifed him and didn't look back. I was so hurt, LOL. I wanted to avenge Fenris even though he was right there going "he wants to die, so kill him..." I was like "yess... hypocrite mage all rainbows and sunshine selling Fenris back into slavery, but the mages as slaves.. ohhh that's where you draw the line."

Hmmm..... I feel like I should've already nuked this thread from orbit.

It's too powerful now, though. So I'll just sit in the corner and glare maliciously at the pages upon pages of offensive writing to discuss a very annoying elf.

His most redeeming quality was the curious ability to explode when stabbed by Hawke....... Which does redeem a lot.

I bet you're one of those people who turned the puppy-eyed-elf over to the magister and bragged about it in some thread nearby that I commented about, earlier.  <waves happily>  Welcome!  Want a cookie?  Maybe it will help with your digestion of the oodles and oodles of notes about "a very annoying elf".

So the typical cycle for some playthroughs seems to be:

Step 1: Start romance with Anders
Step 2: Try to resist Fenris
Step 3: Fail your resisting
Step 4: wave your willpower away and break Anders' widdle heart
Step 5: Something splendid happens with Fenris
Step 6: Profit!

That about right? Posted Image
...  I seem to have been rather lucky. On my main Anders romance Fenris seemed to have no interest in her, so it was a bit easier to resist . The only playthrough so far where I didn't get far enough over one way or the other, and was forced to kill him. Posted Image

Oh, I can't imagine killing the elf.  My first PT, I ended up killing Anders after he came back around when I tried letting him go.   That's the only time I've ever had to kill a companion who came chasing after me once I'd made a stand one way or another.  I mean, I just gank Anders right after the chantry blows up, rather than wait around.  But Fenris, never.  I've had him maxed out one way or the other every PT, thank goodness.

How did you manage it?  I would've abandoned the entire PT right then and there, just plain started over from step one.  I can't even watch the Youtube vids showing Fenris being killed like that. You're a strong strong woman.

Yes, you are. 'Killing' him in the Fade was bad enough for me; fortunately, even in the unspoiled PT where I first discovered CreepyAnders I managed to talk Fenris into defending the mages. I've been pro-templar since, so no problems at all there.   I was afraid I'd see my husband's mage have to kill him, but fortunately, he too talked Fenris over (I think this was on rivalry levels but I don't 100% remember). Whew!

@Arquen - yeah, that comic pretty much sums it up. When I got the 'kill me as surely as the Templars' bit so early in the romance, I got creeped out. The 'drown in blood' line did it for me. Anders is just too creepy. I can sympathize with what he's trying to do, but no romance for you, Blondie. He reminds me of that psycho ex that some of us have and would rather forget.<_<

By comparison at the end of Act 3, especially in the Friendmance, Fenris does seem to heal a bit and, while he still distrusts power and most if not all mages, he seems like a zen master compared to Anders.

(ET-re-add comment I removed when another, more eloquent reply appeared below - but said comment still applies.)

I actually don't mind other people harping on Fenris. Even if they are bragging how they couldn't wait to turn his emo final fantasy looking butt over to Danarius. Obviously they cannot or will not see the character for who he is. Their loss. I love a good debate. Yet when someone says "I hate him" or "he's just annoying" I ask them to tell me why at least.

I have a million reasons why I like him, give me some reasons not to. I don't mind. Honestly it won't change the opinion I have much.

Actually, I never had him in my party, so I never got any of his quests.

Well, I did in one playthrough, and the whole "exploding heart" thing...... ALMOST makes up for the broodiness. I suppose combining it's redemption with the redemption his explosion of gore, and guts, and entrails........ Yeah, he's better than Anders, at least. Anders took a stab to the back with a [Rusty Murder Knife], and Fenris took several blows to the head from half the party before he died.

Yeah, he's an okay character. Just the white hair, elf, and broody things.... Kinda ruin him for ME. I'm sure other people like him, just not myself.

Hmmm.....

Yeah, I need to try the Fenris romance... I did the Anders one and I didn't play one that character any more. And the worst part is he tries to flirt with you and talks about killing templars and stuff even if you DON'T FLIRT WITH HIM.

"Hey, Anders."
"Templars have been asking around."
"Sucks."
"I'm not going to let them take me."
"Awesome."
"I'm going to make Kirkwall run red with their blood."
"Not as awesome."
"Just so I can be with you."
"I'm gonna go talk with Meredith real fast, 'kay?"

Someone once compared talking to Anders is like finding your way through a mine-field of flirtation options. It's tricky just to NOT flirt with him. I blame bioware for pushing you into the tragi-epic-murder knife romance at the end if you so choose it.

In contrast talking to and trying to romance Fenris is like digging for gold. You have to root through the conversations very carefully, hoping to not miss opportunities or fail completely. Some people don't have the patience or care to do it. I personally love how real it feels to actually talk to him. He is very reserved, and only begins a trust/friendship after a few conversations (and some wine!)

Anders is completely different in conversation, always seeming to lead to some kind of debate or argument. In comparison Fenris is just angry, but rarely ever directly challenges your beliefs or tries to get you on his side. He moreso just tries to warn you over and over, and then shakes his head at you at the end saying: "you didn't want to believe me about the mages, you wanted to save them all, thought they would be strong and resist the urge to turn into abominations/use blood magic to save themselves. Yah,... told ya so..."

On the rivalry path Anders reads you a piece of his Manifesto in attempt to change your mind and have you follow his "righteous path." Fenris does nothing of the sort being more angry with himself and the situation than anything. He even apologizes to you in act 3 after he curses you out in Tevinter, LOL. "Your not responsible for my misery, why am I angry at you?" -- would Anders ever say something like that?

So to me Anders just seems more the desperate and easy - ready to pounce on any obsession including Hawke. By act 3 he is having blackouts and his cheese is slowly sliding off his ******. Fenris IS a zen master in comparison. I can hardly take Anders anywhere in act 3 because he is so bitter and confrontational to everyone.

Oh, yay.  I was seriously starting to wonder if I was some weird mutant of a woman, since my PT are almost invariably pro-templar.  I remember I was so certain my first couple PT, that I would surely root for the mages, who really did deserve the utmost support.  And then my Hawke became lost amidst an every-growing number of absolutely insane mages in Kirkwall.

It became some incredible travail, until I finally shrugged in agreement with Fenris and Cullen, that magic really is dangerous.  It's not that I think mages are bad or should be hurt or otherwise mistreated.  Pretty much the opposite, in fact.  I just think magic itself is a dangerous commodity, one that leaves mages vulnerable to a number of threats, not the least of which is possession.  Templars then become a safety mechanism, a neccessary safe-gap that mages really NEED.

To me, the Circle is supposed to be sort of like the X-Men School for the Gifted, where people with power can be in a safe, secure environment designed to allow them control over their abilities with plenty of mechanisms in place for security purposes.  Except in Kirkwall it's being run by someone nutty like Magneto rather than a more reasonable Xavier.  So get rid of Meredith and replace her with Cullen and things might get safer and better for the mages, and then everyone's better off.  That's how my weird head works, though.

They have been great, im new to this thread pretty much, lurked a few times but love all the stories and artwork about fenris. After many playthroughs i can't seem to bring myself to romance anyone else lol, its strange. My first romance was Anders, but i feel, like someone else said he only seems to be using hawke i had that feeling too, i hated the deception yet when i first played and she mentioned Anders was the healer i was really chuffed and straight off to find him. I do love how Fenris will still by Hawke no matter what she is or does. <3

I've actually romanced Anders to the point of dumping him on my doorstep. I do like Anders. In fact he is one of my favorite characters, but I just don't LOVE him.

I believe I had the same look as Phyre when the "kissy" scene popped up. The panting and the way he just attacks you does nothing for me. Also, he's a little "creepy stalker guy" in that he is going on and on about how he thinks of you every waking moment and your all.. umm.. that. is. uncomfortable.

I followed through and got him to my house but then he started going on and on about how Fenris was a beast and blah blah. I just kicked him out right there. I just couldn't hear it without thinking about the fen-romance and how now I'm going to be living with an insane mage. Even though I was rivaling Fenris at the time and did the whole rivalmance scene in act 2 then let him leave I just didn't want to lose the Act 3 romance. I just couldn't follow through with Anders after that. The way he just pushes himself into your life, "hey, lets move in! I've been thinking about you day and night for 3 years!" It is unsettling. Sorry, I tried. The farthest I got was right before the smexy times. 6 playthroughs... 6.. and Fenris each time. My boyfriend says I have a problem... I think he is right.

I like Anders. I'll support him even. I just can't romance him. It is as Tealsie says.

@Ursula: Yes, Merrill will side with you against the mages if you have her at full rival. I borderline hate Merill so I rivaled her on more than one occassion. I've sided with both Templars and Mages, but she will come with you on both. In fact, I've never killed her :? On this playthrough I totally am going to though

@Chugster: Fenris is great paired with a mage. I actually value that romance a bit more. I did mage on rival path and friend path. The friend path is much more to my liking. He tells you that your pretty much the exception to the rule, but doesn't waver on his belief that mages are "dangerous."

On my rogue, however, Fenris seemed to just like her more. Always staring inappropriately and seemed more relaxed and easy to befriend with her. He doesn't attack you when you first meet him as  a "viper in the midst," but instead says something like "magic isn't something for people like you and me." So I prefer the mage romance, but the rogue pairing is probably more cohesive.

I did the ame with Anders, though I planned from the start to kick his butt out as soon as he started his typical ragging on Fenris. I'm just so bothered by his whining and possessive-ness and hypocicies and uhg. Just major creepy vibes and giant red flags everywhere.

I've never done Fenris's first mission without a mage in my party, so I either end up defending Hawke or Bethany.

Slightly OT, but I found this Fengirl sig bar (and a larger version) on DA: credit to U2QueenBee, who has given permission but appreciates credit. Is anyone still maintaining the sig/art post on the front page? If so, can we give her credit there? (FYI, though I don't see one, she says she's happy to do a Fenboy one too.)

Oh, I take Anders along.  I rival Anders, as a rule, so there's no reason for me not to toss him under that bus when the chance comes up.  I end up getting plus points from Fenris and negative points from Anders, so it's all good.  My only difficulty comes when Hawke is the mage, and then I have to carefully navigate the exchange so I only end up with (5) rivalry from Fenris, sigh.
