Fenris is utterly quiet in the Deep Roads. I say that with a very sad and sorrowful tone, mind you. I didn't really realize it until very recently, as I usually make my sibling companion a warden, which seriously limits my ability to take Fenris with us on the Expedition. But I challenged myself in a recent PT and "killed" my sweet little sister (which is a painful episode but made real sense in the over-arching story, I thought).
It just really suprised me, once I had Fenris tagging along, that he says absolutely nothing during the entire episode. Not one word. It's very frustrating, actually. I asked a friend of mine what she thought, said, "So do you think Fenris, as an elf, just deplores the dark so much he broods that much more down there?" Unfortunately, my friend only thought the question was funny and couldn't answer. My curiosity remains unsated.
That, or my friend is just finds it incredibly funny I keep bouncing questions about DA2 off her, as she's never played the game. Who knows?
Your fic is sweet, anyway. I enjoy gaining some sort of perspective other than my own of such adventures. Thanks so much for sharing!
My guess is that the writers didn't write much (if any) deep roads dialogue for any of the characters other than Varric, Anders, Carver and Bethany. Perhaps they assumed that most players, in most instances, would take those 3 (or two out of the 3). In addition to Fenris, I've also taken Isabella along and she didn't have much of anything to say either (and that's very unlike her!)
