Don't think there was Ammonia and Bleach in those days, MRC. Vinegar would probably efficient.

But yeah, you'd better do it when Fenris is distracted. Send Varric...or Issie before you enter his mansion.

So he _can_ betray you if you're in a romance with him? ...:crying: I've always had him at 100% Friendship at the end, so I've not had this problem. (Haven't Rivalmanced him yet...)

The whole Fenris being with you despite being slain is just a bug that they've not fixed.

Well, either that, or Fenris is a zombie.

Well, yes, he can, but only if you haven't done his last Questioning Beliefs quest and/or have less than 100% friend/rival.

And no! D: My Hawke just hit Fenris very lightly on the head and knocked his silly arse out. He'd never kill him for realz. :P You can't ruin my fanfic before it's even done man. I'm not having a Fenzombie! XD

EDIT: Okay, if you haven't gotten Fenris' loyalty to full, and done all his quests he will leave you to join the templars. But apparently, if your friendship is high enough you can get him back. Meaning, if you have him on a rivalry path, you're doomed.

By the final battle, I hadn't done his final Questioning Beliefs, and I had him on the Rivalry path. So I was doomed. :/ Still, I'll repair this in fanfic.

I'm soooo sorry this happened. Did you mean for it to go down like that? How could you not do all his quests if you want him with you :?. I've actually never had this "betrayal" happen to me on ANY of my playthroughs, but I have read about it and seen it on the YouTube. As far as the fic goes I'm not going to sabotage you or anything because people write what they want, but he really does end it there one way or another. It just breaks my heart to see that scene. Ugh, "I should have known. first rule of survival." I could never do it. I always made sure he was at 100% friend or rival and I didn't miss any of the companion's quests. In fact I didn't even know Merrill betrayed you until recently seeing as I always did all her quests and she is my least favorite companion. Poor Fenris. Plus the gallows kiss is so epic, gahh you can't have a proper Fenris romance without it!

Also, ammonia and bleach = death to living things. It probably is the recipe for the qunari gas anyways. Shhhh! Their little secret is cleaning supplies!

No, I actually didn't. I reloaded several times and tried pretty much every dialogue option available to me. I also searched the Dragon Age Wiki for a way to make him come back. In the end I figured I was too close to the end to go back far enough that I might get all the quests. But to be fair, I missed *a lot* of quests. I never met Alistair or Leliana, or Nathaniel. I didn't get the final talk with Merrill or Varric either, but they stayed with me, without me having to bring them up to full rivalry/friendship. Although I suppose that if I had sided with the Templar's another one of my companions would've walked away from me in the end.

Not much to do about that now, I'll just write my angsty fanfic (because I'll never accept that my Hawke would kill Fenris [that's just not in his character] so obviously he goes back to rescue him later) and replay the game to get the proper romance ending eventually.

Also, Merrill can turn on you...? ¬_¬ And here I was hoping to turn against her.

EDIT: and to more specifically explain why I didn't do all his quests; the last Questioning Beliefs quest never triggered for me. Likely because I was 5-10 points away from max Rivalry, and you apparently need it to be full before you get that quest. I thought it was odd, though, that through the whole of Act 3 people treated Fenris and my Hawke as if they were still in a relationship, even though they'd never rekindled the romance from Act 2. And Fenris still got jealous in front of Zevran.

Meh, I can live without ammonia. It stinks and makes my eyes burn. But no bleach?! :o

That's like... the ultimate cleaning solution! Doesn't have to be Clorox or anything, it can be cheap generic bleach!

For anyone who was following my Imprisoned with the Wolf story. Good News! Someone had a copy! I have started to re-upload it on my ff.net

Hopefully it shall be up and running in a few hours where I shall add each chapter! Although a few of the last ones I may edit a tad.

Hey folks. I'm having a problem... I'm in Act 3 and I talked to Fenris about his Alone quest, but it has somehow disappeared. It's in my journal and there's a big fat arrow above the Hanged Man, but I take Fenris in there and Verania is not there. Did I wait too long after he gave me the quest or is my game bugged? I really would rather not have to start Act 3 all over again, lol.

Two quick questions:

1. What time of day are you trying to go in?
2. Which way do you go into the Hanged Man? Front door through Lowtown or do you use the map?

1.) I've tried both daytime and nighttime.
2.) I think I've only tried from the map.

If I remembered it should be daytime Hang Man, and you will have to go through the Lowtown. If all else faled, return to the last save (there should be a autosave somewhere) and try the whole quest again.

Ok, I'll try that... I'll have to do it later as I'm at a friend's house. But TBH I acquired the quest from him and, erm, did other things in-between, so if I have to reload I will have screwed myself into having to play the whole Act all over again. lol.

This is the problem. You should head straight to the Hang Man as soon as you promise him to accompany him. I usually do that before all the other quest in Act III and won't stop until the final Question Belief.

All you need to do is go back to the bit that trigger the table slamming scene, there is no need to go all the way back to the beginning of the Act.

Too bad I didn't lurk around here yesterday. This post would have been more useful then me thinks. Anyways, just gonna clarify a few things about Fenris switching to templars.

Friendship, rivalry, romanced...doesn't matter. He can and will betray you. You have to finish his second Questioning Beliefs, unlocked only when friendship or rivalry is maxed, to earn his full loyalty: "This is a mistake, but I won't abandon you." (Doing this also keeps him from tattling on you if you decide to let Emile go during On the Loose; just an interesting tidbit I decided to share). Having max rivalry or friendship, but not completing Questioning Beliefs will still make him betray you.

To get him to switch back to your side, you have to choose the "Join me" option. My Hawke was diplomatic and that's why she said "I thought freedom from slavery meant something to you." The line changes if you're sarcastic or aggressive, but the result is the same. The middle option has a "I'm sorry, but this is how it has to be" tone while the bottom option is more or less "Screw you". Unlike Merril, Fenris can refuse the "Join me" option if his friendship or rivalry is too low.

If he approaches you with guards, nothing you say can change his mind and you'll be forced to kill him. His "first rule of survival" line will change if he's non-romanced when you take the "We don't need to fight" option.

Oh and I'll throw this out as well since there were mentions of it. Merril will never betray you unless you max rival Anders and complete his second Questioning Beliefs. Tbh, I haven't tested max friendship Anders with non-maxed Merril, but I suspect that won't work because his dialogue is the same as non-Questioning Beliefs Rival Anders.

That's good information, and unfortunately a lot of people have this problem especially with and from Fenris. I really never had much difficulty with it, and some people do not, but it is good to know for future references.

My first playthrough I didn't have any clue what I was doing. I still somehow managed to get Fenris from rivalry romance cutscene to 100% friendship side with the mages in act 3. I think his romance actually bugged the first time because I didn't pick it up in act 3, but still somehow got the gallows kiss. I got Anders to max friend, Merrill to max rival, Isabela said F' you and took off, didn't have Seb yet, Aveline was my BFF, and of course Varric was well, Varric.

Point is that I learned so much about the characters and the game from just replaying, LOL. One of the things that makes me love this game. I have never had Merrill betray me and have had her at max rival with Anders max friend many times. I think it only happens if you miss that last questioning beliefs quest. It is very important to the outcome at the end. Of course, you know, when in doubt about Fenris betraying you Hawke can always side with the Templars.

Still, good to know some of this stuff for future playthroughs. I don't think anybody gets it right going in blind in this game, LOL.

I am reminded of Origins. I had no idea you could harden Alistair and Leliana on my first playthrough. I was tearing my hair out because I didn't want Alistair to leave my warden and I also didn't want to have to sac myself or him for the archdemon. It was like "WTF, I either kill myself or him or let him sleep with Morrigan and then dump my arse which would make my warden probably want to die anyways. Gahhh no happy ending!?" Then I found out you had to harden Alistair so he would keep the warden as a "consort" then I was like "dammit! why didn't I know this!?"

Bioware just likes to mess with our heads like this.

Do you know why I ended up having nearly 20 playthrough? I was so stubborn, I want to find a loophole where Alistair wouldn't dump me for his bloody duty. Am still not very satisfy with just a consort today.

Some other playthrough I did in Origin was to test if I can romance Alistair and Zevran at the same time without breaking up with either of them.:whistle:

The whole betrayal aspect boils down to this in my playthroughs:

Fenris: I cannot let these mages become Magisters. I will stand with the Knight-Commander.

Meredith: Well Champion, do you have anything left to say before we engage in pitched battle?

Hawke: Shall we play a game?

Meredith: (glaring at Hawke) I normally abhor levity at a time like this, but game do you suggest?

Hawke: Red rover?

Meredith: Very well, we shall play your game.

A few moments later

Hawke: Red rover, red rover, we call Fenris over!

Fenris: (Walks over to Hawke) It would appear that I am now on Hawke's side.

Meredith: There, we have played your game. Now can we engage eachother in battle?

Hawke: By all means.

But I only had him a couple of points off from full Rival! D: In other words, if you don't do his last Quest, which is triggered by having max Friend/Rival, then he will skip away from me, return with guards and sadface when I tell him I don't want to fight, only to then draw his blade -still sadfaced at this point- and start pelting me -not so sad now- until either one of us falls dead...

Sometimes, BioWare... ¬_¬

I heard about that and tested it out. It's false. I fought both Anders and Merril in the Gallows. I haven't figured Aveline out yet, so neutral Aveline plus max Fenris is not enough.

Was your Hawke a mage or did you have Bethany waiting for you? They can change your "mages left" count.
