That's what she said.  [/office]

I can't really like this story, even with its drama, because Hawke is so useless that I don't respect her, and in the end I decided I didn't really like her, either.  So there's no one to root for, and it's not even that particularly interesting.  There are glimpses here and there of things that could have been (mage and templar factions, for instance), but none of them are developed.  I liked Fenris, but he's boxed into a corner with a combination of amnesia and three year periods of silence.  And with that, I guess I've said all there is to say.  *fizzles*

It would've been win if Hawke could've sided with the Arishok. As a non-canon but alternate ending anyway.

The arishok had promise, but, dude... I give you your book back and you still want to go on your suicide mission?

He lands on the Dead Because Stupid pile, too.

Good point. Thin veil mixed with underground caverns of EVIL (What the #$%@! Lady Harimann, that's some basement you got there .)

Eek to the comments on terrorism. Since this is a game I dont much care about that topic of blowing up stuff, It was more that I didnt like Anders as a person, If he had been honest to his friend/ potential LI and not " manipulated them thru lies to aid him in his " act of defia

Crappy   error posting when I was  still formulating  athought   forgiveness!

The mage/templar issue still returns to DAO, if you must take issue with everything that DA2 addressed. This is, at the base of it, a core worldbuilding issue and not entirely an isolated DA2 narrative discussion.

The crazy bug hit him in the end as well I think. I didn't like the Viscount either, but chopping off his head and bowling it down the stairs wasn't my idea of a great solution. Plus the Qunari are still pretty creepy to me in some ways. When Fenris mentioned to Isabela (in party banter) what they do to folks who "don't tow the line"...Yeesh, sounded just like making someone Tranquil to me. Creepy.

Eek to the terrorism topics.... Im behind again.

To me it isnt about what choices the characters made, as much as I did not like Anders as a character. If he had not been decietful and manipulating Hawke into aiding his " act of defiant glory" I might have respected him a bit.
Instead he betrayed the trust of a friend and a potential LI. That burns a great deal more to me than someone with a troubled past [Fenris after the smexy times] . I can "understand" why he did so, but Anders whom you support , protect, befriend and in some of the peeps games; loved? there is no excuse to me for that kind of lies/
Similarly I also cannot forgive Isabella for running off with the book, betraying someone whom befriended her/ potentially loved her, for lying/ avoding/denying culpability and leaving her good friends behind to clean up the mess that probably killed as many Kirkwallers as ANders explosion.
So I think tho I luv the intelligent debates, for me, it boils down to ice-cream. some peeps like vanilla , some like chocolate, and the majority are somewhere in between.

Exactly. Trying to find a sane person in Kirkwall is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Even the Arishok lost his mind after being in Kirkwall so long. It must be the water.

It's not the water. Go read the Enigma Of Kirkwall codex.

There should have more Enigma of Kirkwall in the actual game.  It was a very interesting read.

There's a difference between being a good person and a good character.

Not sure I know what you mean.  Is the mage-templar conflict interesting in the abstract?  Sure.  I'll be interested to see how it's developed in the novel.  I appreciated Origins' story much more after reading the prequel novels.

I mean it is an issue that extends past its isolated treatment in DA2, as originating in DAO THE GOLDEN GAME. Broad discussions of continuity need not be tied to a particular game.

Indeed.

If anything, Stolen Throne might have reduced my opinion of him a bit (mostly due to his inexplicable infatuation with Maric).

From what I heard of Maric, I half expected him to be shooting rainbows out of his nostrils. He seems to have some Jedi-mind-control like charm that we never get to see examples of.

I'm guessing either Maric sucks a mean dick, or Loghain has elf blood somewhere in there. Possibly both.

Well it's kind of hard to talk about the mage revolution without reference to DA2 because there was no such thing in Origins.  Uldred's rebellion is a horse of different color.

Um...okay.  I thought what you were getting at is that you don't look for a deeper meaning or political corollary but that whatever serves to make the story dramatic = good.  But, I admit that off and on I have no clue what it is you're actually talking about.  lol
