Maric and Loghain? Interesting.

Poor Rowan. She's like the kid that always gets picked last in gym class.

Dagnabit. I had this great thread written about how I like Anders as a character but not as an LI, but I manged to hit the wrong key and it got eaten by forum gremlins.

Anyway, welcome to KoP and the rest - I used to mostly lurk the Alistair thread, KoP, and I enjoyed your additions to the conversation. *slides cookies to newcomers/guests*

And, here's the art I was trying to post when my post got eaten - it's not one I've seen here before. (By *moni158 on DeviantArt)

If anything, Stolen Throne might have reduced my opinion of him a bit (mostly due to his inexplicable infatuation with Maric).

Ha! well there's that!
making him more human with more tangible and understood motives was what i meant, rather than the remote unyielding figure we saw in dao  ^_^

Indeed - I didn't have much of an appreciation for Logain until I read TST.

Um...okay.  I thought what you were getting at is that you don't look for a deeper meaning or political corollary but that whatever serves to make the story dramatic = good.  But, I admit that off and on I have no clue what it is you're actually talking about.  lol

What I was getting at is that my personal feelings on the mage/templar issue, i.e. what I would think if I actually lived in that world, are much less interesting for me to talk about than the narrative and literary issues approached from a meta perspective, and as such I have no particular interest in advocating for or defending those opinions. So I was clarifying that I was not making any attempt to defend what Anders did from a moral standpoint (because I kinda don't care that much), just trying to elucidate what exactly his goals are vs. some of the misunderstandings of it that have been raised here (which make it impossible to discuss productively from any standpoint).

oo in regards to Loghain before DAO, the book version I didnt feel he was all that noble or grand at all. HE resented Maric, he didnt really like him, he did what his Father told him to, but I never got anything but a stand offish, use him for his own goals. I imagine that is interpretation too.
And also .... Anders ISNT a person.... he is a character..... :) lol

Yum.

Are we seriously offtopic? Not that I mind at the moment. But at one stage we might consider steer it back on our beloved formter Teventer slave, pretty please?

I seriously thought that I was on another forum at first. This is a great debate though.

If Anders had made almost any other gesture, would we be talking about it so much? This is not to say that I agree with it, but narratively it was a great jaw drop moment for me.

@Tankgirly

Is all this going to affect the prompt?

Holy crap-- I decide to give Sims 2 and the legacy house a break and not check on the forums every two hours and go play "Gate Monkey" on GW simply because I had nothing better to do today and I didn't want to play on the PS3 and the flipping thread exploded.

And seeing as it's a debate... When's the new prompt coming? Uhh, I've got an idea! How about "murder"! Wait... what's this about kiddies and Fenris?

@MRC, that was D-D's idea before she log off. Well, all I can say is I am collecting information the moment. New prompt won't be up for another day or so, so no worry.

Murder? Are we talking about 'All that Remain' now?

Yeah, threads do that when people create a massive debate on the morality of Anders' actions :). As for myself, I've been away, helping my best friend prepare for the arrival of her son.....

Oh nothing, just my attempt to steer us back towards that delicious elf. :P

Also, I have two suggestions for prompts; 'Elf' and 'Leandra'

Now pardon me for a moment. I have a glitch to exploit.

I cant really see fenris comfy around kids. He has limied social skills, and tbh if he spoke so brusquely as he does normally he would prolly have the kiddies scampering off to their mums in tears!
he is kinda sweet to the " young and innocent" orana and Lia come to mind but I see him as vastly inexperienced with the wiles of lil ones, and and horrendously awkward too. tho that can be funny I think the way Doc writes teehee

Doesn't necessarily have to be All That Remains-- it could be just someone gets murdered in general. Could be a random person, or a person in the party, or Hawke-- it has to be just someone being killed by another with intention to kill that person. Could make for some very sad, tear-jerking prompts, and this week has a good tear-jerking feeling to it. Like... I need an excuse to cry. Really weird, I know, but I'm really odd and probably have several mental screws that are completely missing, so random wants of wanting to cry aren't all too rare. ^_^

D-D, you know exactly how to send me to the damn gutter. :(  I was doing *so* good too!

Ah, well, everything's really better down here where my mind can run free...

And huzzah for you exploited glitch!

Fenris & Kiddies.

Fenris: I hate children.

Varric: Come on elf, sure the little ones can be annoying but nobody hates children.

Fenris: You have not met the children of Magisters then.

Minrathous

Child: So what do you do?

Fenris: I am a bodyguard.

Child: You're way too scrawny to be a bodyguard. My father's guards are a big as two of you put together.

Fenris: Are they now?

Child: Those markings are funny looking. You're funny looking.

Fenris: I could say the same about you.

Child: My father is a Magister of the Imperial Senate, I could have you hanged.

Fenris: My master would beg to differ. (a bright flash of light appears in the next room and Danarius walks out, dusting ash from his robes)

Danarius: Fenris, fetch a broom to clean up...(notices the child) Oh.

Child: Where's father?

Danarius: Ah, Magister Cassius has been...called to the front lines in Seheron. He'll be back in a few weeks.

Child: Oh, well then can I go home?

Danarius: Well of course little one. Fenris, escort the lad to his home.

Fenris: (sighs) Yes, master.

Kirkwall

Varric: So what happened with the kid?

Fenris: (sighs) After finding out what really happend to his father he swore to kill Danarius for vengeance.

Varric: And? What happened?

Fenris: I happened.

Varric: Oh.

@MRC; Just doing my job, Rosie! -cackles- Someone has to keep Gutterville populated!

@Dr.Dr; Why didn't Danarius just take the kid to use in a blood ritual later? Just thinking practically. Honestly, my fell- er, those blood mages have no common sense. Tsk tsk.

I was actually think more along the lines of Hawke and Fenris have broody half-elf babies. >3 Imagine Fenris as a father.

Speaking of which...how would Fenris act if Romanced!Lady!Hawke was currently experiancing...ahem...'that time of the month,' I wonder...

Varric: Elf, why do you look like you've seen a ghost?

Fenris: Hide me.

Varric: Hide you? (chuckles) I thought you 'feared no man'?

Fenris: It is not a man that I fear. Hawke is...out of sorts.

Varric: 'Out of sorts?' (suddenly gets what Fenris is talking about) Damnation, is she throwing fireballs again?

Fenris: (brushing some snow out of his hair) No, ice this time.
